1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
100:1 Ljubljeni, ne verujte vsakemu duhu, ampak presojajte duhove, ali so iz Boga; ker mnogo lažnivih prorokov je prišlo na svet.
2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
2V tem spoznate Duha Božjega: vsak duh, ki pripoznava Jezusa Kristusa, da je prišel v mesu, je iz Boga;
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
3in vsak duh, ki ne pripoznava Jezusa, da je prišel v mesu, ni iz Boga, in ta je duh antikristov, o katerem ste slišali, da se bliža, in sedaj je že na svetu.
4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
4Vi ste iz Boga, otročiči, in premagali ste jih; ker večji je on, ki je v vas, nego on, ki je v svetu.
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
5Oni so iz sveta; zato govore, kar je iz sveta, in svet jih posluša.
6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
6Mi smo iz Boga; kdor poznava Boga, posluša nas, kdor ni iz Boga, nas ne posluša. Iz tega spoznavamo duha resnice in duha zmote.
7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
7Ljubljeni, ljubimo se med seboj; kajti ljubezen je iz Boga, in vsak, kdor ljubi, je rojen iz Boga in spoznava Boga.
8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
8Kdor ne ljubi, ni spoznal Boga, ker Bog je ljubezen.
9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
9V tem se je razodela ljubezen Božja v nas, da je Bog poslal Sina svojega edinorojenega na svet, da bi živeli po njem.
10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
10V tem je ljubezen, ne da smo mi ljubili Boga, temuč da je on ljubil nas in poslal Sina svojega v spravo za grehe naše.
11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
11Ljubljeni, če nas je Bog tako ljubil, dolžni smo tudi mi ljubiti se med seboj.
12No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
12Boga ni nihče nikdar videl; če se ljubimo med seboj, ostaja Bog v nas in ljubezen njegova je dopolnjena v nas.
13Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
13V tem spoznavamo, da ostajamo v njem in on v nas, ker nam je dal od Duha svojega.
14And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
14In mi smo videli in pričujemo, da je Oče poslal Sina kot Zveličarja sveta.
15Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
15Kdor pripoznava, da je Jezus Sin Božji, v njem ostaja Bog in on v Bogu.
16And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
16In mi smo spoznali in verovali ljubezen, ki jo ima Bog do nas. Bog je ljubezen, in kdor ostaja v ljubezni, ostaja v Bogu in Bog v njem.
17Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
17V tem se je dopolnila ljubezen pri nas, da imamo trdno zaupanje ob dnevi sodbe; ker kakor je on, smo tudi mi na tem svetu.
18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
18Strahu ni v ljubezni, temuč popolna ljubezen izganja strah, ker strah povzroča trpljenje; kdor pa se boji, ni popoln v ljubezni.
19We love him, because he first loved us.
19Mi ga ljubimo, ker nas je on prvi ljubil.
20If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
20Ako kdo pravi: Boga ljubim, pa sovraži brata svojega, je lažnik; kdor namreč ne ljubi brata svojega, katerega vidi, kako more ljubiti Boga, ki ga ne vidi?In to zapoved imamo od njega, da kdor ljubi Boga, naj ljubi tudi brata svojega.
21And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
