¹And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

¹In Elija, Tisbljan, iz prebivalcev Gileadskih, je govoril Ahabu: Kakor res živi Jehova, Bog Izraelov, ki stojim pred njega obličjem, ne bode ta leta ne rose, ne dežja, razen le po besedi moji!

²And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

²In beseda GOSPODOVA pride k njemu, veleč:

³Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

³Pojdi odtod in obrni se proti vzhodu ter se skrij pri potoku Keritu, ki teče proti Jordanu.

⁴And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

⁴In iz potoka boš pil, krokarjem pa sem zapovedal, da te ondi žive.

⁵So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

⁵Šel je torej in storil po besedi GOSPODOVI; šel je in bival pri potoku Keritu, ki teče proti Jordanu.

⁶And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

⁶Krokarji pa so mu prinašali kruha in mesa zjutraj ter kruha in mesa zvečer, in iz potoka je pil.

⁷And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

⁷In zgodi se za nekoliko časa, da je potok usahnil, zakaj dežja ni bilo v deželi.

⁸And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

⁸In pride mu beseda GOSPODOVA, veleč:

⁹Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

⁹Vstani, pojdi v Sarepto pri Sidonu, in tam prebivaj; glej, zapovedal sem ondi ovdoveli ženi, da te oskrbuje.

¹⁰So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

¹⁰Vstane torej in odide v Sarepto, in ko pride do mestnih vrat, glej, vdova je bila ondi in je pobirala dračje. In jo pokliče ter veli: Prinesi mi, prosim, malo vode v posodi, da pijem.

¹¹And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

¹¹Ko ona gre, da prinese, pokliče za njo in veli: Prosim, prinesi mi tudi grižljaj kruha v roki svoji!

¹²And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

¹²Ona odvrne: Kakor res živi GOSPOD, Bog tvoj, nimam ničesar pečenega, samo prgišče moke v skrinji in malo olja v vrču, in glej, ravnokar sem nabrala malo dračja, da stopim noter in to pripravim sebi in sinu svojemu, da jeva in umrjeva.

¹³And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

¹³A Elija ji veli: Ne boj se! Pojdi in naredi, kakor si dejala, toda pripravi meni majhen kolač najprej ter mi ga prinesi in potem pripravi sebi in sinu svojemu.

¹⁴For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

¹⁴Zakaj tako pravi GOSPOD, Bog Izraelov: Moka v skrinji ne bo pošla in olja v vrču ne bo zmanjkalo do dneva, ob katerem pošlje GOSPOD dež nad zemljo.

¹⁵And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

¹⁵In je šla in naredila po besedi Elijevi. In je jedla, tudi on in ona in njena družina dosti dni.

¹⁶And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

¹⁶Moka v skrinji ni pošla in olja v vrču ni zmanjkalo po besedi GOSPODOVI, ki jo je bil govoril po Eliju.

¹⁷And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

¹⁷Zgodi se pa po teh rečeh, da zboli sin tiste žene, hišne gospodinje, in bolezen mu je bila tako huda, da ni bilo več sape v njem.

¹⁸And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

¹⁸In reče Eliju: Kaj je meni s teboj, mož Božji? Prišel si k meni, da spraviš v spomin krivico mojo in da umoriš sina mojega!

¹⁹And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

¹⁹On pa veli: Daj mi sem sina svojega! In ga vzame iz njenega naročja ter ga odnese v zgornjo izbo, kjer je prebival, in ga položi na posteljo svojo.

²⁰And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

²⁰In kliče h GOSPODU in reče: O GOSPOD, Bog moj, si li celo tej vdovi, pri kateri gostujem, hudo storil, ko si umoril sina njenega?

²¹And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

²¹In se razprostre trikrat nad detetom in kliče h GOSPODU, rekoč: GOSPOD, Bog moj, prosim, naj se vrne tega dečka duša zopet vanj!

²²And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

²²In GOSPOD je uslišal glas Elijev, in duša dečkova se je povrnila vanj, in je oživel.

²³And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

²³In Elija vzame dečka ter ga prinese iz zgornje izbe doli v hišo in ga izroči materi njegovi; in Elija reče: Glej, sin tvoj živi!In žena reče Eliju: Sedaj sem spoznala, da si ti mož Božji in da beseda GOSPODOVA v ustih tvojih je resnica.

²⁴And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
