¹Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

¹Pavel, apostol Kristusa Jezusa po volji Božji, in Timotej, brat, cerkvi Božji, ki je v Korintu, z vsemi svetimi, ki bivajo po vsej Ahaji:

²Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

²Milost vam in mir od Boga Očeta našega in Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa!

³Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

³Hvaljen bodi Bog in Oče Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa, Oče usmiljenosti in Bog vsake tolažbe,

⁴Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

⁴ki nas tolaži v vsaki stiski, da moremo i mi tolažiti tiste, ki so v kakršnikoli stiski s to tolažbo, s katero nas same tolaži Bog.

⁵For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

⁵Kajti kakor je obilno trpljenje Kristusovo pri nas, tako je po Kristusu obilna tolažba naša.

⁶And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

⁶Če smo pa stiskani, je to za vašo tolažbo in rešitev; če pa uživamo tolažbo, je to za vašo tolažbo, ki naj vas podpira v prenašanju istega trpljenja, ki ga tudi mi trpimo.

⁷And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

⁷In upanje naše je trdno za vas, ker vemo, da kakor ste deležniki trpljenja, tako ste tudi tolažbe.

⁸For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

⁸Kajti nočemo, da bi ne vedeli, bratje, za stisko našo, ki se nam je dogodila v Aziji, da smo bili hudo preobteženi, nad svojo moč, tako da smo obupali tudi nad življenjem;

⁹But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

⁹da, sami v sebi smo izrekli smrtno obsodbo, – naj bi ne stavili upanja svojega na sebi, ampak na Bogu, ki obuja mrtve;

¹⁰Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

¹⁰ki nas je take smrti otel in otimlje, v katerega upamo, da bo še dalje otimal;

¹¹Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

¹¹če pripomagate tudi vi nam z molitvijo, da bi se za dar, ki nam je dodeljen po molitvah mnogih, mnogi zahvaljevali zaradi nas.

¹²For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

¹²Kajti hvala naša je ta: pričevanje vesti naše, da smo živeli v svetosti in čistosti Božji, ne v meseni modrosti, temuč v milosti Božji na svetu, posebno pa pri vas.

¹³For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

¹³Kajti nič drugega vam ne pišemo, nego kar berete in kar morate tudi priznati; upam pa, da boste to do konca priznavali,

¹⁴As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are our's in the day of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁴kakor ste tudi priznali nas, vsaj nekoliko, da smo hvala vaša, kakor tudi vi naša v dan Gospoda našega Jezusa.

¹⁵And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

¹⁵In s tem zaupanjem sem hotel k vam priti poprej, da bi prejeli dvojno dobroto,

¹⁶And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

¹⁶in od vas potovati v Macedonijo in zopet iz Macedonije priti k vam in od vas spremljen biti v Judejo.

¹⁷When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

¹⁷Ko sem torej to hotel, sem li lahkomiselno ravnal? ali kar sklepam, sklepam po mesu, da bi bilo pri meni hkratu ‚da, da‘ in ‚ne, ne‘?

¹⁸But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

¹⁸Ali zvest je Bog, da beseda naša do vas ni bila ‚da‘ in ‚ne‘.

¹⁹For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

¹⁹Kajti Božji Sin Jezus Kristus, ki smo ga med vami oznanili jaz in Silvan in Timotej, ni bil ‚da‘ in ‚ne‘, temuč v njem je bilo ‚da‘.

²⁰For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

²⁰Zakaj kolikorkoli je obljub Božjih, v njem so ‚da‘, zato tudi po njem ‚Amen‘ Bogu na slavo po nas.

²¹Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

²¹Ta pa, ki nas utrjuje z vami vred v Kristusa in nas je pomazilil, je Bog,

²²Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

²²ki nas je tudi zapečatil in dal zastavo Duha v srca naša.

²³Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

²³A jaz kličem za pričo Boga na svojo dušo, da iz prizanašanja do vas še nisem prišel v Korint.Ne da gospodujemo v veri vaši, temuč sodelavci smo za radost vašo; kajti z vero stojite.

²⁴Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.
