¹But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

¹Sklenil sem pa v sebi to, da zopet ne pridem z žalostjo k vam.

²For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

²Kajti če jaz žalostim vas, kdo je, ki bi me razveselil, če ne ta, ki sem ga jaz užalostil?

³And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

³In napisal sem vam prav to, da ne bi žalosti imel, ko pridem, s temi, nad katerimi bi se imel radovati; nadejajoč se za vas vse, da je moja radost vseh vas radost.

⁴For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

⁴Kajti z veliko stisko in srčno težavo sem vam pisal, z mnogimi solzami, ne da se žalostite, marveč da spoznate ljubezen, ki je imam obilo do vas.

⁵But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

⁵Če je pa kdo povzročil žalost, ni mene užalostil, temuč nekoliko (da ga preveč ne obtežim) vse vas.

⁶Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

⁶Dosti je takemu ta kazen, ki ga je zadela od večine:

⁷So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

⁷nasproti zdaj storite bolje, da mu odpustite in ga potolažite, da bi prevelika žalost morda ne pogoltnila takega.

⁸Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

⁸Zato vas prosim, da potrdite ljubezen do njega.

⁹For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

⁹Kajti zato sem tudi pisal, da vas preizkusim in spoznam, ste li v vsem poslušni.

¹⁰To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

¹⁰Komur pa kaj odpustite, njemu tudi jaz; saj tudi kar sem jaz odpustil, če sem kaj odpustil, za voljo vas sem to storil pred obličjem Kristusovim,

¹¹Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

¹¹da bi nas ne ukanil satan; kajti niso nam njegove misli neznane.

¹²Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

¹²A ko sem prišel v Troado zavoljo evangelija Kristusovega in so mi bila vrata odprta v Gospodu,

¹³I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.

¹³nisem imel miru v duhu svojem, ker nisem našel Tita, brata svojega; temuč sem vzel slovo od njih in odšel v Macedonijo.

¹⁴Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

¹⁴Ali hvala Bogu, ki nam vsekdar zmago daje v Kristusu in vonjavo spoznanja svojega razodeva po nas na vsakem mestu.

¹⁵For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

¹⁵Kajti Kristusova prijetna dišava smo Bogu v teh, ki se zveličujejo, in v tistih, ki gredo v pogubo;

¹⁶To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

¹⁶enim vonjava iz smrti za smrt, a drugim vonjava iz življenja za življenje. In kdo je zmožen za to?Kajti nismo kakor mnogi, ki pokvarjajo besedo Božjo, temuč kakor iz čistote, kakor iz Boga, vpričo Boga govorimo v Kristusu.

¹⁷For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

¹⁷Kajti nismo kakor mnogi, ki pokvarjajo besedo Božjo, temuč kakor iz čistote, kakor iz Boga, vpričo Boga govorimo v Kristusu.
