¹Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?

¹Začenjamo li zopet sami sebe priporočati? ali potrebujemo li, kakor nekateri, priporočilnih listov do vas ali od vas?

²Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:

²List nas ste vi, napisan v srcih naših, ki ga poznajo in bero vsi ljudje,

³Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

³ker se kažete, da ste list Kristusov, napravljen po naši službi, pisan ne s črnilom, ampak z Duhom Boga živega, ne na kamenitih pločah, ampak na mesenih pločah srca.

⁴And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

⁴Tako zaupanje pa imamo po Kristusu do Boga:

⁵Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

⁵Ne da bi bili zmožni, sami po sebi misliti kaj kakor sami iz sebe, temuč naša zmožnost je od Boga,

⁶Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

⁶ki nas je storil tudi zmožne, da smo služabniki nove zaveze, ne črke, ampak Duha; kajti črka ubija, a Duh oživlja.

⁷But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

⁷Če je pa služba smrti, v črkah in vrezana v kamene, bila polna slave, tako da niso mogli pogledati sinovi Izraelovi v obličje Mojzesovo zavoljo slave obličja njegovega, ki pa je bila minljiva:

⁸How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

⁸kako naj bi ne bila veliko bolj polna slave služba Duha?

⁹For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

⁹Zakaj ako je bila služba obsojanja slavna, veliko bolj je obila v slavi služba pravičnosti;

¹⁰For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.

¹⁰saj proti tej preveliki slavi nove zaveze, kakor da bi ne bila oslavljena stara zaveza, ki je pač bila oslavljena.

¹¹For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

¹¹če je v slavi, kar je minljivo, veliko bolj je v slavi, kar je trajno.

¹²Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

¹²Ker imamo torej toliko upanje, govorimo z veliko prostosrčnostjo

¹³And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:

¹³in ne delamo kakor Mojzes, ki si je deval zagrinjalo na obličje, da ne bi videli sinovi Izraelovi konca temu, kar je minljivo.

¹⁴But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

¹⁴Ali njih misli so odrevenele. Kajti prav do današnjega dne ostaja isto zagrinjalo pri branju stare zaveze ne odrgnjeno, ker se le v Kristusu odpravlja.

¹⁵But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.

¹⁵A do danes, kadarkoli se čita Mojzes, leži zagrinjalo na njih srcih.

¹⁶Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

¹⁶Kadar se pa zgodi izpreobrnjenje v Gospodu, se sname zagrinjalo.

¹⁷Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

¹⁷Gospod pa je Duh; kjer pa je Duh Gospodov, tam je svoboda.A mi vsi, ki z odkritim obličjem gledamo kot v zrcalu [Ali: odsevamo kot zrcalo.] slavo Gospodovo, se premenjujemo v isto podobo od slave v slavo, kakor od Gospodovega Duha.

¹⁸But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

¹⁸A mi vsi, ki z odkritim obličjem gledamo kot v zrcalu [Ali: odsevamo kot zrcalo.] slavo Gospodovo, se premenjujemo v isto podobo od slave v slavo, kakor od Gospodovega Duha.
