¹For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

¹Vemo namreč, če razpade zemeljska hiša našega prebivanja, da imamo prebivališče od Boga, hišo, ne z rokami napravljeno, večno, v nebesih.

²For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

²Kajti v tem tudi zdihujemo, želeč, povrhu se obleči v prebivališče svoje, ki je iz nebes;

³If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

³če se le pokaže, da smo tudi oblečeni, ne goli.

⁴For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

⁴Kajti kateri smo v tem šatoru, zdihujemo obteženi, ker se ne želimo sleči, ampak po vrhu se obleči, da življenje pogoltne to, kar je smrtnega.

⁵Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

⁵Kateri nas je pa ravno za to pripravil, je Bog, ki nam je tudi dal zastavo Duha.

⁶Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

⁶Dobre volje smo torej vsekdar in vemo, dokler stanujemo v telesu, potujemo na tujem daleč od Gospoda,

⁷(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

⁷(zakaj po veri živimo, ne po tem, kar gledamo);

⁸We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

⁸dobre volje smo pa in želimo rajši preseliti se iz telesa in biti doma pri Gospodu.

⁹Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

⁹Zato si tudi prizadevamo, bodisi da stanujemo v telesu ali da se selimo, da smo njemu po volji.

¹⁰For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

¹⁰Zakaj vsi se moramo pokazati pred sodnim stolom Kristusovim, da prejme vsak po tem, kar je storil v telesu, bodisi dobro ali hudo.

¹¹Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

¹¹Vedoč torej za strah Gospodov, prepričujemo ljudi, a Bogu smo razodeti; upam pa, da smo tudi v vaših vesteh razodeti.

¹²For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.

¹²Ne priporočamo vam zopet sami sebe, temuč vam dajemo priložnost, hvaliti se z nami, da imate kaj proti tem, kateri se z zunanjim hvalijo in ne s tem kar je v srcu.

¹³For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

¹³Kajti ako smo predaleč stopili, se je zgodilo za Boga; ako smo zmerni, smo za vas.

¹⁴For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

¹⁴Zakaj ljubezen Kristusova priganja nas, ki smo tako sodili: če je eden umrl za vse, so umrli vsi;

¹⁵And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

¹⁵in za vse je umrl, da bi ti, kateri žive, nič več ne živeli zase, ampak za tega, ki je zanje umrl in je bil obujen.

¹⁶Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

¹⁶Zatorej mi od sedaj nikogar ne poznamo po mesu; če smo pa tudi poznali po mesu Kristusa, ali sedaj ga več ne poznamo.

¹⁷Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

¹⁷Zato če je kdo v Kristusu, je novo stvarjenje; staro je prešlo, glej, postalo je novo vse.

¹⁸And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

¹⁸A vse to je iz Boga, ki nas je spravil s seboj po Kristusu in nam je dal službo sprave.

¹⁹To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

¹⁹Bog je namreč bil v Kristusu in je svet spravil s seboj in jim ni zaračunil njih grehov, in poveril je nam besedo sprave.

²⁰Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

²⁰Namesto Kristusa smo torej poslani [Ali: Poslanci smo torej za Kristusa.], kakor da bi Bog opominjal po nas. Prosimo namesto Kristusa: Spravite se z Bogom!Tega, ki ni poznal greha, je storil zaradi nas v greh, da bi postali mi pravičnost Božja v njem.

²¹For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
