¹Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

¹Otroci, bodite poslušni roditeljem svojim v Gospodu; zakaj to je pravično.

²Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

²„Spoštuj očeta svojega in mater svojo“, ta je zapoved prva z obljubo:

³That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

³„da se ti bo dobro godilo in boš dolgo živel na zemlji“.

⁴And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

⁴In očetje, ne dražite svojih otrok, temuč vzrejajte jih v strahu in svarjenju Gospodovem.

⁵Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

⁵Hlapci, bodite poslušni telesnim gospodarjem svojim s strahom in trepetom, v preprostosti srca svojega kakor Kristusu;

⁶Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

⁶ne služite le na oko, kakor bi hoteli ugajati ljudem, temuč kakor hlapci Kristusovi, delajoč voljo Božjo iz duše,

⁷With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

⁷z dobro voljo opravljajoč službo, kakor Gospodu in ne ljudem,

⁸Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

⁸vedoč, da kar kdo stori dobrega, prejme to od Gospoda, bodisi hlapec, bodisi svobodnik.

⁹And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

⁹In gospodarji, ravnajte istotako ž njimi in opuščajte pretenje, vedoč, da je i njih i vaš Gospod v nebesih in da licegledja ni pri njem.

¹⁰Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

¹⁰Sicer pa, ojačite se v Gospodu in v krepkosti moči njegove.

¹¹Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

¹¹Odenite se z vsem orožjem Božjim, da boste mogli stati zoper zvijačne naklepe hudičeve.

¹²For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

¹²Kajti vojskovati se nam ni zoper kri in meso, ampak zoper poglavarstva, zoper oblasti, zoper svetovne mogočnike te teme, zoper duhovne vojske hudobnosti v nebeških prostorih.

¹³Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

¹³Zato primite za vse orožje Božje, da se morete v bran postaviti ob hudem dnevi in, vse premagavši, stati.

¹⁴Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

¹⁴Stojte torej, opasani okoli ledij z resnico in oblečeni z oklepom pravičnosti

¹⁵And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

¹⁵in obuti na nogah s pripravljenostjo, oznanjati evangelij miru,

¹⁶Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

¹⁶vrhutega zgrabite ščit vere, s katerim boste mogli pogasiti vse goreče strele Hudobnega.

¹⁷And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

¹⁷In vzemite čelado zveličanja in meč Duha, ki je beseda Božja,

¹⁸Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

¹⁸in s sleherno molitvijo in prošnjo molite vsak čas v Duhu in bedite za to v vsej stanovitnosti in prošnji za vse svete,

¹⁹And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

¹⁹tudi zame, da se mi dá beseda, ko odprem usta, da s srčnostjo oznanjam skrivnost evangelija,

²⁰For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

²⁰ki sem zanj poslanec v sponah, da v njem srčno govorim, kakor mi je govoriti.

²¹But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

²¹Da pa veste tudi vi, kar zadeva mene, kako se mi godi, naznani vam vse Tihik, ljubljeni brat in zvesti služabnik v Gospodu,

²²Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

²²ki sem ga poslal k vam prav zato, da zveste, kako je z nami, in da potolaži srca vaša.

²³Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²³Mir bodi bratom in ljubezen z vero od Boga Očeta in Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa!Milost z vsemi, ki ljubijo Gospoda našega Jezusa Kristusa v neminljivosti!

²⁴Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
