¹Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

²Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

²z naukom o krstih in o pokladanju rok in o vstajenju mrtvih in o večni sodbi.

³And this will we do, if God permit.

³In to bomo storili, ako le Bog privoli.

⁴For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

⁴Kajti nemogoče je take, ki so bili enkrat razsvetljeni in so okusili dar nebeški in so postali deležni svetega Duha

⁵And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

⁵in okusili dobro besedo Božjo in prihodnjega sveta moči,

⁶If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

⁶in so odpadli, zopet obnoviti v izpokorjenje, ker sami zase iznova križajo Sina Božjega in ga očitno sramote.

⁷For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

⁷Kajti zemlja, katera pije dež, ki često nanjo pada, in rodi koristno zelišče tistim, zaradi katerih se tudi obdeluje, dobiva blagoslov od Boga.

⁸But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

⁸Ako pa rodi trnje in osat, je zavržena in blizu prokletja, ki mu je konec požig.

⁹But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

⁹Prepričani pa smo o vas, ljubljeni, da ste v boljšem stanju, ki pospešuje vaše zveličanje, čeprav tako govorimo.

¹⁰For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

¹⁰Kajti Bog ni krivičen, da bi pozabil delo vaše in ljubezen, ki ste jo pokazali do imena njegovega s tem, da ste služili svetim in še služite.

¹¹And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

¹¹Želimo pa, da vsak izmed vas kaže isto gorečnost, da ohrani popolno gotovost upanja do konca:

¹²That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

¹²da se ne polenite, temuč postanete posnemalci njih, ki so po veri in stanovitnosti podedovali obljube.

¹³For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

¹³Kajti ko je Bog dal Abrahamu obljubo, je prisegel pri samem sebi, ker ni imel pri kom večjem priseči,

¹⁴Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

¹⁴govoreč: „Resnično, blagoslavljaje te bom blagoslovil in množeč te bom množil“.

¹⁵And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

¹⁵In tako je Abraham, stanovitno čakajoč, dosegel izpolnitev obljube.

¹⁶For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.

¹⁶Ljudje namreč prisegajo pri kom večjem, in vsakega njih prepira konec je prisega v potrditev.

¹⁷Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:

¹⁷Zato je tudi Bog, hoteč tolikanj obilneje pokazati dedičem obljube neizpremenljivost sklepa svojega, porabil za sredstvo prisego,

¹⁸That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

¹⁸da bi po teh dveh neizpremenljivih rečeh, v katerih ni mogoče, da bi Bog lagal, imeli krepko tolažilo mi, ki smo pribežali oprijet se ponujenega nam upanja,

¹⁹Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

¹⁹ki ga imamo kakor sidro duše, ki je zanesljivo in trdno in prodira v notranje svetišče za pregrinjalo,kamor je kot predhodnik za nas vstopil Jezus, postavši po redu Melhizedekovem veliki duhovnik na vekomaj.

²⁰Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
