¹Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

²For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

²Kajti neumneža umori srd, in bedaka ubije goreča jeza.

³I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

³Sam sem videl neumneža, da se je ukoreninjeval, a precej sem proklel prebivališče njegovo.

⁴His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

⁴Daleč so ostali otroci njegovi od sreče in poteptani so bili med vrati, in nikogar ni bilo, ki bi jih bil rešil;

⁵Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

⁵njegovo žetev je pojedel lačnež, celó iz trnjeve ograje jo je pobral, in po imetju njegovem so hlastali žejni.

⁶Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

⁶Kajti nesreča ne prihaja iz prahu, in iz zemlje ne poganja nadloga,

⁷Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

⁷ampak človek se rodi za nadlogo, kakor iskre letajo kvišku.

⁸I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

⁸Jaz pa, do Boga mogočnega bi se proseč obrnil in poročil pravdo svojo Bogu,

⁹Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

⁹ki nareja reči velike, da jih ni doumeti, čudna dela brez števila;

¹⁰Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

¹⁰ki daje dežja na površje zemlje in vode pošilja na površino poljan,

¹¹To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

¹¹da bi postavil ponižne v višavo in da se žalostni povzdignejo v srečo.

¹²He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

¹²On uničuje zvijačnih naklepe, da njih roke ne morejo izvršiti, kar so začeli.

¹³He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

¹³On zasačuje modre v njih lastni zvijači, in premetencev namera se izvrne.

¹⁴They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

¹⁴Po dnevi nalete na temo in opoldne tavajo kakor po noči.

¹⁵But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

¹⁵On rešuje potrebnega od meča, ki gre iz njih ust, in iz pesti mogočneža.

¹⁶So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

¹⁶In tako vzklije ubožcu upanje, in nepravičnost mora stisniti usta svoja.

¹⁷Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

¹⁷Glej, blagor možu, ki ga Bog strahuje! Zato ne zaničuj kazni Vsegamogočnega.

¹⁸For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

¹⁸Kajti on napravi rano, pa jo tudi obveže, udari, a roke njegove zacelijo.

¹⁹He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

¹⁹Iz šestih stisk te otme, tudi v sedmerih se te ne dotakne nesreča.

²⁰In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

²⁰V lakoti te odreši smrti in v vojski oblasti meča.

²¹Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

²¹Skrit boš biču jezika in ne boš se bal pustošenja, kadar pride.

²²At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

²²Pustošenju in draginji se boš smejal in zverin zemlje se ne boš bal,

²³For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

²³kajti zavezo boš imel s kamenjem na polju, in zverina poljska se bo prijateljila s teboj.

²⁴And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

²⁴In spoznaš, da ima mir šator tvoj, in če pogledaš bivališče svoje, ne pogrešiš ničesar.

²⁵Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

²⁵Vedel boš tudi, da bo semena tvojega veliko in potomcev tvojih kakor trave zemeljske.

²⁶Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

²⁶Čvrst bodeš, še ko pojdeš v grob, kakor kopica snopja, ko se spravlja ob svojem času.Glej, to smo preiskovali, tako je; poslušaj to in dobro pomni!

²⁷Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
