¹And the LORD spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

¹In GOSPOD je govoril Mojzesu na poljanah Moabskih pri Jordanu, nasproti Jerihu, rekoč:

²Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.

²Zapovej Izraelovim sinovom, naj dado levitom od dednih posestev svojih mesta za prebivanje; in pašnike okoli teh mest dajte levitom.

³And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

³In mesta naj imajo za prebivanje, njih pašnike pa za svojo živino in za imetje in za vse živali svoje.

⁴And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.

⁴Pašniki ob mestih pa, ki jih daste levitom, naj se zunaj raztezajo od mestnega zidovja do tisoč komolcev naokrog.

⁵And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

⁵Merite torej zunaj mesta na vzhodni strani dva tisoč komolcev, na južni strani dva tisoč komolcev, na zahodni strani dva tisoč komolcev in na severni strani dva tisoč komolcev, tako da bode mesto v sredi. To naj jim služi v pašnike pri njih mestih.

⁶And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

⁶Med mesti pa, ki jih daste levitom, bodi šest zavetnih mest, v katera dovolite ubijalcu pribežati, in razen teh dajte dvainštirideset mest.

⁷So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.

⁷Vseh mest, ki jih daste levitom, bodi oseminštirideset mest in njih pašniki.

⁸And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.

⁸Za mesta pa, ki jih daste levitom od posesti Izraelovih sinov, veljaj: od tistih, ki imajo več, vzemite več, in od tistih, ki imajo manj, vzemite manj; vsakteri rod naj da od svojih mest levitom primerno dediščini, ki jo dobi.

⁹And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

⁹In GOSPOD je govoril Mojzesu, rekoč:

¹⁰Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

¹⁰Govori sinovom Izraelovim in jim reci: Ko pridete čez Jordan v deželo Kanaansko,

¹¹Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.

¹¹si določite mesta, ki naj vam bodo zavetna mesta: tja naj pribeži ubijalec, ki ubije človeka neradovoljno.

¹²And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.

¹²In ta mesta naj vam bodo v zavetišča pred krvnim maščevalcem, da ne umrje ubijalec, dokler se ne postavi pred občino zaradi sodbe.

¹³And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.

¹³Takih mest, ki jih boste dali in ki vam bodo v zavetišča, bodi šest.

¹⁴Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.

¹⁴Tri mesta določite tostran Jordana in tri mesta v Kanaanski deželi; zavetna mesta naj bodo.

¹⁵These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.

¹⁵Za sinove Izraelove in za tujca in priseljenca med njimi naj bode teh šest mest v zavetišče, da zbeži vanje, kdorkoli neradovoljno ubije človeka.

¹⁶And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

¹⁶Ako pa kdo koga udari z železnim orodjem, da umre, morilec je; umreti mora tak morilec.

¹⁷And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

¹⁷In če ga udari s kamenom v roki, s kakršnim je lahko usmrtiti, tako da umre, morilec je; umreti mora tak morilec.

¹⁸Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

¹⁸Ali če ga udari z lesenim orodjem, s kakršnim je lahko usmrtiti, tako da umre, morilec je; umreti mora tak morilec.

¹⁹The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

¹⁹Maščevalec krvi naj usmrti morilca; kadar nanj naleti, naj ga usmrti.

²⁰But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;

²⁰Ako pa pahne koga iz sovraštva ali zažene vanj kaj, zalezovaje ga, da umre;

²¹Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.

²¹ali ga udari v neprijateljstvu z roko, tako da umre: kdor ga je udaril, mora umreti; morilec je, maščevalec krvi naj ga usmrti, kadar ga zaloti.

²²But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

²²Ako ga pa pahne nenadoma, ne v neprijateljstvu, ali vrže nanj kako stvar, ne da bi ga zalezoval, da umre,

²³Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:

²³ali, ne ga videč, zažene vanj kamen, kakršen lahko usmrti, tako da umre, pa mu ni bil sovražnik in ni iskal njegove nesreče:

²⁴Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:

²⁴tedaj naj občina razsodi med ubijalcem in maščevalcem krvi po teh pravicah;

²⁵And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.

²⁵in občina naj reši ubijalca iz roke krvnega maščevalca in ga da peljati nazaj v zavetno mesto, kamor je bil zbežal; ondi naj ostane dotlej, da umrje veliki duhovnik, ki je bil maziljen s svetim oljem.

²⁶But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;

²⁶Toda če ubijalec kdaj prekorači mejo zavetnega mesta, kamor je bil zbežal,

²⁷And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:

²⁷in krvni maščevalec ga zasači zunaj meje njegovega zavetišča in ga umori, ne bodi kriv krvi:

²⁸Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

²⁸zakaj on bi bil moral ostati v zavetnem mestu svojem do smrti velikega duhovnika; ali po smrti velikega duhovnika se sme vrniti v pokrajino svojega posestva.

²⁹So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

²⁹In to vam bodi sodna postava za vse prihodnje vaše rodove po vseh vaših stanovališčih.

³⁰Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.

³⁰Kdorkoli umori človeka, bodi umorjen po izpovedbi prič; samo ena priča naj ne govori zoper koga za smrt.

³¹Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.

³¹Nikar ne sprejmite odkupnine za življenje morilca, ki je kriv smrti; on mora umreti.

³²And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

³²Tudi ne sprejmite odkupnine od njega, ki je zbežal v zavetno svoje mesto, da bi se smel vrniti in prebivati v deželi, preden umrje veliki duhovnik.

³³So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

³³Ne ognušajte dežele, v kateri ste, zakaj kri ognuša deželo, in za kri, ki se je v deželi prelila, ni mogoča poravnava, razen po krvi tistega, ki jo je prelil.Ne onečiščajte dežele svojega domovanja, sredi katere jaz prebivam; zakaj jaz, GOSPOD, prebivam sredi Izraelovih sinov.

³⁴Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.
