¹My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

¹Sin moj, ako sprejmeš besede moje in pri sebi shraniš zapovedi moje,

²So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

²tako da nagneš uho svoje k modrosti in srce obrneš k razumnosti;

³Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

³če zakličeš previdnost in do umnosti zaženeš svoj glas,

⁴If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

⁴če je iščeš kakor srebra in jo zasleduješ kakor skrite zaklade:

⁵Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

⁵tedaj boš razumel strah GOSPODOV in dosežeš spoznanje Božje.

⁶For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

⁶Kajti GOSPOD daje modrost, iz njegovih ust prihaja spoznanje in razumnost.

⁷He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

⁷On je zavaroval uspeh poštenim, ščit je njim, ki žive brezmadežno,

⁸He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

⁸da bi vztrajali na potih pravice; on čuva hojo svetnikov svojih.

⁹Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

⁹Tedaj boš razumel pravičnost in pravo sodbo in karkoli je pošteno, sleherno dobro stezo.

¹⁰When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

¹⁰Kajti modrost pride v srce tvoje in znanje bode prijetno duši tvoji,

¹¹Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

¹¹razsodnost bo pazila nate, umnost te bo stražila,

¹²To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

¹²da te otme slabega pota, mož, ki spačenosti govoré,

¹³Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

¹³ki zapuščajo pota poštenja, da bi hodili po stezah teme,

¹⁴Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

¹⁴ki jim je veselje delati zlo, radujejo se v spačenostih najhujših,

¹⁵Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

¹⁵katerih pota so kriva, trdovratni so na stezah svojih!

¹⁶To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

¹⁶da te otme žene tuje, tujke, ki se dobrika z besedami gladkimi,

¹⁷Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

¹⁷ki zapušča mladosti svoje vodnika in zabi Boga svojega zavezo.

¹⁸For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

¹⁸Kajti v smrt se nagiblje hiša njena in v smrtne sence njene steze:

¹⁹None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

¹⁹katerikoli zahajajo k njej, ne povrnejo se in ne dosežejo življenja potov.

²⁰That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²⁰Zato hódi po potu dobrih in vztrajaj na stezah pravičnikov!

²¹For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

²¹Zakaj pošteni bodo prebivali v deželi in brezmadežni ostanejo v njej.Brezbožne pa bodo iztrebili iz dežele in nezveste izpulili iz nje.

²²But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
