¹My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

¹³So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

¹⁴Hvalne daritve sem bila dolžna, danes sem opravila obljube svoje.

¹⁵Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

¹⁵Zato sem ti prišla naproti, hrepeneč po obličju tvojem, in sem te našla.

¹⁶I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

¹⁶S preprogami sem prestrla posteljo svojo, s pisanimi odejami iz platna egiptovskega;

¹⁷I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

¹⁷pokadila sem ležišče svoje z miro, aloo in cimetom.

¹⁸Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

¹⁸Dej, radujva se obilo v ljubezni prav do jutra, oslajujva se z ljubkovanjem!

¹⁹For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

¹⁹Kajti moža ni v hiši, odšel je na daljni pot;

²⁰He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

²²He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

²²za njo gre takoj, kakor gre vol v klalnico in kakor neumnež v kazen v okovih –

²³Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

²³dokler mu pšica jeter ne razkolje; kakor ptič hiti v zanko, ne vedoč, da je zoper življenje njegovo.

²⁴Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

²⁴Zato sedaj, sinovi, poslušajte me in pazite na ust mojih besede!

²⁵Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

²⁵Ne kreni na njena pota srce tvoje, ne zavij na steze njene.

²⁶For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

²⁶Ker mnogo jih je prebodla in na tla zvrnila, in veliko jih je, katere je vse pomorila.Hiša njena je pot v kraj mrtvih, gredoča doli v smrtne hrame.

²⁷Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
