¹At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place.

¹Ja, vid sådant förskräckes mitt hjärta, bävande spritter det upp.

²Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.

²Hören, hören huru hans röst ljuder vred, hören dånet som går ut ur hans mun.

³He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

³Han sänder det åstad, så långt himmelen når, och sina ljungeldar bort till jordens ändar.

⁴After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.

⁴Efteråt ryter så dånet, när han dundrar med sin väldiga röst; och på ljungeldarna spar han ej, då hans röst låter höra sig.

⁵God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

⁵Ja, underbart dundrar Gud med sin röst, stora ting gör han, utöver vad vi förstå.

⁶For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

⁶Se, åt snön giver han bud: »Fall ned till jorden», så ock åt regnskuren, åt sitt regnflödes mäktiga skur.

⁷He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

⁷Därmed fjättrar han alla människors händer, så att envar som han har skapat kan lära därav.

⁸Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.

⁸Då draga sig vilddjuren in i sina gömslen, och i sina kulor lägga de sig till ro.

⁹Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

⁹Från Stjärngemaket kommer då storm och köld genom nordanhimmelens stjärnor;

¹⁰By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

¹⁰med sin andedräkt sänder Gud frost, och de vida vattnen betvingas.

¹¹Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

¹¹Skyarna lastar han ock med väta och sprider omkring sina ljungeldsmoln.

¹²And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

¹²De måste sväva än hit, än dit, alltefter hans rådslut och de uppdrag de få, vadhelst han ålägger dem på jordens krets.

¹³He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

¹³Än är det som tuktoris, än med hjälp åt hans jord, än är det med nåd som han låter dem komma.

¹⁴Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

¹⁴Lyssna då härtill, du Job; stanna och betänk Guds under.

¹⁵Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

¹⁵Förstår du på vad sätt Gud styr deras gång och låter ljungeldarna lysa fram ur sina moln?

¹⁶Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

¹⁶Förstår du lagen för skyarnas jämvikt, den Allvises underbara verk?

¹⁷How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

¹⁷Förstår du huru kläderna bliva dig så heta, när han låter jorden domna under sunnanvinden?

¹⁸Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

¹⁸Kan du välva molnhimmelen så som han, så fast som en spegel av gjuten metall?

¹⁹Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

¹⁹Lär oss då vad vi skola säga till honom; för vårt mörkers skull hava vi intet att lägga fram.

²⁰Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.

²⁰Ej må det bebådas honom att jag vill tala. Månne någon begär sitt eget fördärv?

²¹And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

²¹Men synes icke redan skenet? Strålande visar han sig ju mellan skyarna, där vinden har gått fram och sopat dem undan.

²²Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

²²I guldglans kommer han från norden. Ja, Gud är höljd i fruktansvärt majestät;

²³Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

²³den Allsmäktige kunna vi icke fatta, honom som är så stor i kraft, honom som ej kränker rätten, ej strängaste rättfärdighet.

²⁴Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

²⁴Fördenskull frukta människorna honom; men de självkloka -- dem alla aktar han ej på.
