1Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
1Hör, visheten ropar, och förståndet höjer sin röst.
2She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
2Uppe på höjderna står hon, vid vägen, där stigarna mötas.
3She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
3Invid portarna, vid ingången till staden där man träder in genom dörrarna, höjer hon sitt rop:
4Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
4Till eder, I man, vill jag ropa, och min röst skall utgå till människors barn.
5O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
5Lären klokhet, I fåkunnige, och I dårar, lären förstånd.
6Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
6Hören, ty om höga ting vill jag tala, och mina läppar skola upplåta sig till att säga vad rätt är.
7For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
7Ja, sanning skall min mun tala, en styggelse för mina läppar är ogudaktighet.
8All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
8Rättfärdiga äro alla min muns ord; i dem finnes intet falskt eller vrångt.
9They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
9De äro alla sanna för den förståndige och rätta för dem som hava funnit kunskap.
10Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
10Så tagen emot min tuktan hellre än silver, och kunskap hellre än utvalt guld.
11For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
11Ty visheten är bättre än pärlor; allt vad härligt som finnes går ej upp emot henne.
12I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
12Jag, visheten, är förtrogen med klokheten, och jag råder över eftertänksam insikt.
13The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
13Att frukta HERREN är att hata det onda; ja, högfärd, högmod, en ond vandel och en ränkfull mun, det hatar jag.
14Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
14Hos mig finnes råd och utväg; jag är förstånd, hos mig är makt.
15By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
15Genom mig regera konungarna och stadga furstarna vad rätt är.
16By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
16Genom mig härska härskarna och hövdingarna, ja, alla domare på jorden.
17I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
17Jag älskar dem som älska mig, och de som söka mig, de finna mig.
18Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
18Rikedom och ära vinnas hos mig, ädla skatter och rättfärdighet.
19My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
19Min frukt är bättre än guld, ja, finaste guld och den vinning jag skänker bättre än utvalt silver.
20I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
20På rättfärdighetens väg går jag fram, mitt på det rättas stigar,
21That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
21till att giva dem som älska mig en rik arvedel och till att fylla deras förrådshus.
22The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
22HERREN skapade mig såsom sitt förstlingsverk, i urminnes tid, innan han gjorde något annat.
23I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
23Från evighet är jag insatt, från begynnelsen, ända ifrån jordens urtidsdagar.
24When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
24Innan djupen voro till, blev jag född, innan källor ännu funnos, fyllda med vatten
25Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
25Förrän bergens grund var lagd, förrän höjderna funnos, blev jag född,
26While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
26när han ännu icke hade skapat land och mark, ej ens det första av jordkretsens stoft.
27When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
27När han beredde himmelen, var jag tillstädes, när han spände ett valv över djupet,
28When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
28när han fäste skyarna i höjden, när djupets källor bröto fram med makt,
29When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
29när han satte för havet dess gräns, så att vattnet icke skulle överträda hans befallning, när han fastställde jordens grundvalar --
30Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
30då fostrades jag såsom ett barn hos honom, då hade jag dag efter dag min lust och min lek inför hans ansikte beständigt;
31Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
31jag hade min lek på hans jordkrets och min lust bland människors barn.
32Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
32Så hören mig nu, I barn, ty saliga äro de som hålla mina vägar.
33Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
33Hören tuktan, så att I bliven visa, ja, låten henne icke fara.
34Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
34Säll är den människa som hör mig, så att hon vakar vid mina dörrar dag efter dag håller vakt vid dörrposterna i mina portar.
35For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
35Ty den som finner mig, han finner livet och undfår nåd från HERREN.
36But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
36Men den som går miste om mig han skadar sig själv; alla de som hata mig, de älska döden.
