1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
1อะไรเป็นสาเหตุของสงครามและการทะเลาะวิวาทกันในพวกท่าน มิใช่ราคะตัณหาของท่านหรือที่ต่อสู้กันในอวัยวะของท่าน
2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
2ท่านทั้งหลายอยากได้ แต่ไม่ได้ ท่านก็ฆ่ากัน ท่านโลภแต่ไม่ได้ ท่านก็ทะเลาะและทำสงครามกัน ที่ท่านไม่มีเพราะท่านไม่ได้ขอ
3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
3ท่านขอและไม่ได้รับ เพราะท่านขอผิด หวังได้ไปเพื่อสนองราคะตัณหาของท่าน
4Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
4ท่านทั้งหลายผู้ล่วงประเวณีชายหญิงเอ๋ย ท่านไม่รู้หรือว่า การเป็นมิตรกับโลกนั้นคือการเป็นศัตรูกับพระเจ้า เหตุฉะนั้นผู้ใดใคร่เป็นมิตรกับโลก ผู้นั้นก็ตั้งตัวเป็นศัตรูกับพระเจ้า
5Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
5หรือท่านคิดว่าเป็นสิ่งไร้ประโยชน์หรือที่พระคัมภีร์กล่าวว่า `พระวิญญาณที่ดำรงอยู่ในเราทั้งหลายมีความรู้สึกหึงหวง'
6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
6แต่พระองค์ได้ทรงประทานพระคุณเพิ่มขึ้นอีก เหตุฉะนั้นพระองค์จึงตรัสว่า `พระเจ้าทรงต่อสู้ผู้ที่หยิ่งจองหอง แต่พระองค์ทรงประทานพระคุณแก่คนที่ใจถ่อม'
7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
7เหตุฉะนั้น ท่านทั้งหลายจงน้อมใจยอมฟังพระเจ้า จงต่อสู้กับพญามาร และมันจะหนีไปจากท่าน
8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
8ท่านทั้งหลายจงเข้าใกล้พระเจ้า และพระองค์จะสถิตอยู่ใกล้ท่าน คนบาปทั้งหลายเอ๋ย จงชำระมือให้สะอาด และคนสองใจเอ๋ย จงชำระใจของตนให้บริสุทธิ์
9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
9จงเป็นทุกข์โศกเศร้าและร้องไห้ จงให้การหัวเราะของตนกลับกลายเป็นการโศกเศร้า และความปีติยินดีของตนกลับกลายเป็นความเศร้าสลด
10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
10ท่านทั้งหลายจงถ่อมใจลงในสายพระเนตรขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า และพระองค์จะทรงยกชูท่านขึ้น
11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
11พี่น้องทั้งหลาย อย่าใส่ร้ายซึ่งกันและกัน ผู้ใดที่พูดใส่ร้ายพี่น้องและตัดสินพี่น้องของตน ผู้นั้นก็กล่าวร้ายต่อพระราชบัญญัติ และตัดสินพระราชบัญญัติ แต่ถ้าท่านตัดสินพระราชบัญญัติ ท่านก็ไม่ใช่ผู้ที่ประพฤติตามพระราชบัญญัติ แต่เป็นผู้ตัดสิน
12There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
12มีผู้ทรงตั้งพระราชบัญญัติแต่เพียงองค์เดียว คือพระองค์ผู้ทรงสามารถช่วยให้รอดได้ และทรงสามารถทำลายเสียได้ แต่ท่านเป็นผู้ใดเล่า ท่านจึงตัดสินผู้อื่น
13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
13ดูเถิด ท่านที่พูดว่า "วันนี้หรือพรุ่งนี้เราจะเข้าไปในเมืองนี้เมืองนั้น และจะอยู่ที่นั่นปีหนึ่ง และจะค้าขายได้กำไร"
14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
14แต่ว่าท่านทั้งหลายไม่รู้ว่าจะมีเหตุอะไรเกิดขึ้นในพรุ่งนี้ ชีวิตของท่านเป็นอะไรเล่า ก็เป็นเหมือนหมอกที่ปรากฏอยู่แต่ประเดี๋ยวหนึ่งแล้วก็หายไป
15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
15ท่านทั้งหลายควรจะพูดว่า "ถ้าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงโปรด เราจะมีชีวิตอยู่ และจะกระทำสิ่งนี้หรือสิ่งนั้น"
16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
16แต่เดี๋ยวนี้ท่านทั้งหลายภูมิใจในการอวดอ้างของตน ความภูมิใจอย่างนี้เป็นความชั่วทั้งนั้น
17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
17เหตุฉะนั้น คนใดที่รู้จักกระทำการดี และไม่ได้กระทำ บาปจึงมีแก่คนนั้น
