¹And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

¹Побачивши ж народ, зійшов на гору, і,як сїв, приступили до Него ученики Його;

²And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

²і відкрив Він уста свої, і навчав їх, глаголючи:

³Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

³Блаженні вбогі духом, бо їх царство небесне.

⁴Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

⁴Блаженні сумні, бо такі втїшять ся.

⁵Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

⁵Блаженні тихі, бо такі осягнуть землю.

⁶Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

⁶Блаженні голодні й жадні правди, бо такі наситять ся.

⁷Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

⁷Блаженні милостиві, бо такі будуть помилувані.

⁸Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

⁸Блаженні чисті серцем, бо такі побачять Бога.

⁹Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

⁹Блаженні миротворці, бо такі синами Божими звати муть ся.

¹⁰Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁰Блаженні, кого гонять за правду, бо їх царство небесне.

¹¹Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

¹¹Блаженні ви, коли вас безчестити муть, та гонити муть, та казати муть на вас усяке лихе слово не по правдї, ради мене.

¹²Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

¹²Радуйтесь і веселітесь: бо велика нагорода ваша на небі; так бо гонили й пророків, що бували перше вас.

¹³Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

¹³Ви сіль землї; коли ж сіль звітріє, то чим солити? Нї-на-що не годить ся тоді вона, тільки щоб викинути геть і щоб топтали її люде.

¹⁴Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

¹⁴Ви сьвітло сьвіту. Не може город сховати ся, стоячи на горі;

¹⁵Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

¹⁵і, засьвітивши сьвічку, не став лять під посудину, а на сьвічнику то й сьвітить вона всїм, хто в хатї.

¹⁶Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

¹⁶так нехай сяє сьвітло ваше перед людьми, щоб вони бачили ваші добрі дїла, й прославляли Отця вашого, що на небі.

¹⁷Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

¹⁷Не думайте, що я прийшов знївечити закон або пророків; не прийшов я знївечити, а сповнити.

¹⁸For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

¹⁸Істино бо глаголю вам: Доки перейде небо й земля, одна йота, або одна титла не перейде з закону, аж поки все станеть ся.

¹⁹Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁹Тим, хто поламле одну найменшу з сих заповідей і навчить так людей, той звати меть ся найменшим у царстві небесному; а хто сповнить і навчить, той звати меть ся великим у царстві небесному.

²⁰For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

²⁰Глаголю бо вам: Що коли ваша правда не переважить письменників та Фарисеїв, то не ввійдете в царство небесне.

²¹Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

²¹Чували ви, що сказано старосьвіцьким: Не вбий, а хто вбє, на того буде суд.

²²But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

²²Я ж вам глаголю: Хто сердить ся на брата свого без причини, на того буде суд; а хто скаже на брата свого: Рака [Безчесний], на того буде громадський суд; хто ж скаже: дурню, на того буде огонь пекельний.

²³Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

²³Тим, коли принесеш дар свій до жертівнї, й згадаєш там, що твій брат має що проти тебе;

²⁴Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

²⁴зостав свій дар перед жертівнею, і йди геть, помирись перш із братом твоїм, а тоді прийди й подай дар твій.

²⁵Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

²⁵Мирись із твоїм противником хутко, доки ти ще в дорозі з ним, щоб не віддав тебе противник судді, а суддя не віддав тебе осавулї (слузї), і не вкинуто тебе в темницю.

²⁶Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

²⁶Істино глаголю тобі: Не вийдеш звідтіля, доки не віддаси й останнього шеляга.

²⁷Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

²⁷Чували ви, що сказано старосьвіцьким: Не чини перелюбу.

²⁸But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

²⁸Я ж вам глаголю: Хто спогляне на жінку жадібним оком, той уже вчинив перелюб із нею в серці своїм.

²⁹And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

²⁹Коли ж око твоє праве блазнить тебе, вирви його, й кинь од себе; бо більша користь тобі, щоб один із членів твоїх згинув, а не все тіло вкинуто в пекло.

³⁰And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

³⁰І коли права рука твоя блазнить тебе відотни її, й кинь од себе; більша бо користь тобі, щоб один із членів твоїх згинув, а не все тіло твоє вкинуто в пекло.

³¹It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

³¹Сказано ж: Що хто розводить ся з жінкою своєю, нехай дасть їй розвідний лист.

³²But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

³²Я ж вам глаголю: Що хто розведеть ся з жінкою своєю, хиба що за перелюб, доводить її до перелюбу; й хто оженить ся з розвідкою, чинить перелюб.

³³Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

³³Знов чували, що сказано старосьвіцьким: Не кленись криво, а сповняй перед Господом обітниці твої.

³⁴But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

³⁴Я ж вам глаголю: Не клянїть ся зовсім: нї небом, бо воно престол Божий;

³⁵Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

³⁵нї землею, бо вона підніжок ніг Його; нї Єрусалимом, бо се город великого царя;

³⁶Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

³⁶нї головою твоєю не клянись, бо не зможеш зробити нї одного волоса білим або чорним.

³⁷But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

³⁷Слово ж ваще нехай буде: так, так; нї, нї; бо що більш над се, те від лихого.

³⁸Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

³⁸Чували ви, що сказано: Око за око, й зуб за зуб.

³⁹But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

³⁹Я ж вам глаголю: Не противтесь лихому, а хто вдарить тебе у праву щоку твою, повернись до него й другою.

⁴⁰And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.

⁴⁰І хто схоче судитись із тобою і зняти з тебе свиту, віддай йому й жупанок.

⁴¹And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

⁴¹І хто силувати ме тебе йти милю, йди з ним дві.

⁴²Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

⁴²Дай, хто в тебе просить, і хто хоче в тебе позичити, не одвертайсь од него.

⁴³Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

⁴³Чували ви, що сказано: Люби ближнього твого, й ненавидь ворога твого.

⁴⁴But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

⁴⁴Я ж вам глаголю: Любіть ворогів ваших, благословляйте, хто клене вас, робіть добро, хто ненавидить вас, і моліть ся за тих, що обижають вас і гонять вас;

⁴⁵That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

⁴⁵щоб вам бути синами Отця вашого, що на небі; Він бо велить сонцю своєму сходити над лихими й над добрими, й посилає дощ на праведних і неправедних.

⁴⁶For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

⁴⁶Бо коли ви любите тих, що люблять вас, то за що вам нагорода? хиба й митники не те саме роблять?

⁴⁷And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

⁴⁷І коли витаєте тільки братів ваших, то що надто робите? хиба й митники не так роблять?

⁴⁸Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

⁴⁸Оце ж бувайте звершені, як Отець ваш, що на небі, звершений.
