¹Balances of deceit [are] an abomination to Jehovah, And a perfect weight [is] His delight.

¹काही लोक नीट वजन न करणारा तराजू वापरतात. ते लोकांना फसविण्यासाठी असा तराजू वापरतात. परमेश्वराला असले खोटे तराजू आवडत नाही. पण खरा असलेल्या तराजूमुळे परमेश्वराला आनंद होतो.

²Pride hath come, and shame cometh, And with the lowly [is] wisdom.

²जे लोक गर्विष्ठ आहेत ते बिनमहत्वाचे ठरतील. पण जे लोक विनम्र आहेत ते शहाणेही होतील.

³The integrity of the upright leadeth them, And the perverseness of the treacherous destroyeth them.

³चांगल्या, इमानदार लोकांना प्रामाणिकपणा मार्गदर्शन करतो. पण दुष्ट लोक जेव्हा दुसऱ्यांना फसवतात तेव्हा ते स्वत:चाच नाश करुन घेतात.

⁴Wealth profiteth not in a day of wrath, And righteousness delivereth from death.

⁴ज्या दिवशी देव लोकांचा न्याय करतो त्या दिवशी पैशाला काही किंमत नसते. परंतु चांगुलपणा लोकांना त्यांच्या मरणापासून वाचवतो.

⁵The righteousness of the perfect maketh right his way, And by his wickedness doth the wicked fall.

⁵जर चांगला माणूस इमानी असला तर त्याचे आयुष्य सोपे असेल. पण दुष्ट माणसाचा मात्र त्याने केलेल्या वाईट गोष्टीमुळे नाश होईल.

⁶The righteousness of the upright delivereth them, And in mischief the treacherous are captured.

⁶इमानी माणसाला चांगुलपणा वाचवतो. पण दुष्ट मात्र त्यांनी केलेल्या वाईट गोष्टींच्या सापळ्यात अडकतात.

⁷In the death of a wicked man, hope perisheth, And the expectation of the iniquitous hath been lost.

⁷दुष्ट माणूस मेल्यानंतर त्याला आशेला जागा नसते. तो ज्या ज्या गोष्टींची आशा ठेवतो त्या सर्व कवडीमोल असतात.

⁸The righteous from distress is drawn out, And the wicked goeth in instead of him.

⁸चांगल्या माणसांचा संकटापासून बचाव होईल. आणि ती संकटे दुष्ट माणसांवर येतील.

⁹With the mouth a hypocrite corrupteth his friend, And by knowledge the righteous are drawn out.

⁹दुष्ट माणूस काहीतरी बोलून लोकांना दुखवू शकतो. पण चांगल्या माणसांचे त्यांच्या शहाणपणामुळे रक्षण होते.

¹⁰In the good of the righteous a city exulteth, And in the destruction of the wicked [is] singing.

¹⁰चांगली माणसे जेव्हा यशस्वी होतात तेव्हा सर्व शहर आनंदी होते. जेव्हा दुष्टांचा नाश होतो तेव्हा लोक आनंदाने ओरडू लागतात.

¹¹By the blessing of the upright is a city exalted, And by the mouth of the wicked thrown down.

¹¹इमानदार लोक त्यांचे आशीर्वाद देतात तेव्हा शहर मोठे होते. पण दुष्टांचा बोलण्यामुळे शहराचा नाश होऊ शकतो.

¹²Whoso is despising his neighbour lacketh heart, And a man of understanding keepeth silence.

¹²ज्या माणसाला चांगली समज बुध्दी नसते तो त्याच्या शेझाऱ्याबद्दल वाईट बोलतो. परंतु शहाण्या माणसाला केव्हा गप्प बसायचे ते कळते.

¹³A busybody is revealing secret counsel, And the faithful of spirit is covering the matter.

¹³जो माणूस दुसऱ्या लोकांबद्दल काही गुप्त गोष्टी सांगतो तो गुप्तता पाळत नाही. (म्हणून त्याच्यावर विश्वास टाकणे शक्य नसते.) पण जो माणूस विश्वासू असतो तो अफवा पसरवत नाही.

¹⁴Without counsels do a people fall, And deliverance [is] in a multitude of counsellors.

¹⁴कमजोर नेत्यांमुळे देश गर्तेत जातो. पण बरोच चांगले उपदेशक असले तर तो देश सुरक्षित असतो.

¹⁵Evil [one] suffereth when he hath been surety [for] a stranger, And whoso is hating suretyship is confident.

¹⁵जर तुम्ही दुसऱ्या माणसाचे कर्ज फेडण्याची हमी घेतलीत तर तुम्हाला त्या बद्दल पश्चात्ताप करावा लागेल. पण जर तुम्ही त्याला तसे व्यवहार करायला नकार दिलात तर तुम्ही सुरक्षित राहाल.

¹⁶A gracious woman retaineth honour, And terrible [men] retain riches.

¹⁶.दयाळू आणि कोमल स्त्री आदराला पात्र होते. जे लोक जुलमी आहेत ते केवळ पैसा मिळवतात.

¹⁷A kind man is rewarding his own soul, And the fierce is troubling his own flesh.

¹⁷दयाळू माणसाला लाभ होईल. पण जो माणूस उलट्या काळजाचा असतो तो स्वत:वर संकटे ओढवून घेतो.

¹⁸The wicked is getting a lying wage, And whoso is sowing righteousness — a true reward.

¹⁸दुष्ट माणूस दुसऱ्यांना फसवतो आणि त्यांचे पैसे घेतो. पण जो माणूस न्याची आहे आणि जो योग्य गोष्टी करतो त्याला फलप्राप्ती होते.

¹⁹Rightly [is] righteousness for life, And whoso is pursuing evil — for his own death.

¹⁹चांगुलपणा खरोखरच जीवन आणतो. पण दुष्ट माणसे दुष्टपणाकडे वळतात आणि मरण मिळवतात.

²⁰An abomination to Jehovah [are] the perverse of heart, And the perfect of the way [are] His delight.

²⁰जे लोक आनंदाने दुष्टपणा करतात त्यांचा परमेश्वर तिरस्कार करतो. पण जे लोक योग्य गोष्ट करण्याचा प्रयत्न करतात त्यांच्याबद्दल परमेश्वर आनंदी असतो.

²¹Hand to hand, the wicked is not acquitted, And the seed of the righteous hath escaped.

²¹दुष्टांना खरोखरच शासन होईल. ही गोष्ट खरी आहे. आणि चांगल्या लोकांना सोडून देण्यात येईल.

²²A ring of gold in the nose of a sow — A fair woman and stubborn of behaviour.

²²जर स्त्री सुंदर असून मूर्ख असली तर ते डुकराच्या नाकात सुंदर सोन्याची नथ असल्यासारखे असते.

²³The desire of the righteous [is] only good, The hope of the wicked [is] transgression.

²³चांगल्या लोकांना च्यांच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे गोष्टी मिळाल्या तर त्यांतून अधिक चांगले निर्माण होते. पण दुष्टांना जर त्यांच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे गोष्टी मिळाल्या तर त्यामुळे संकटेच येतात.

²⁴There is who is scattering, and yet is increased, And who is keeping back from uprightness, only to want.

²⁴जर एखादा माणूस उदारहस्ते देत असेल तर त्याला अधिक मिळेल. पण एखाद्याने द्यायला नकार दिला तर तो गरीब होईल.

²⁵A liberal soul is made fat, And whoso is watering, he also is watered.

²⁵जो उदार होऊन देतो त्याला लाभ होतो. जर तुम्ही दुसऱ्याना मदत केली तर तुम्हाला अधिक फायदा होईल.

²⁶Whoso is withholding corn, the people execrate him, And a blessing [is] for the head of him who is selling.

²⁶जो अधाशी माणूस त्याचे धान्य विकायला नकार देतो त्याच्यावर लोक रागावतात. पण जो माणूस दुसऱ्यांना खायला मिळावे म्हणून आपले धान्य विकतो त्याच्याबद्दल लोकांना आनंद वाटतो.

²⁷Whoso is earnestly seeking good Seeketh a pleasing thing, And whoso is seeking evil — it meeteth him.

²⁷जो माणूस दुसऱ्यांचे भले करायचा प्रयत्न करतो त्याचा लोक आदर करतात. जो माणूस वाईट गोष्टी करतो त्याच्या वाटेला फक्त संकटे येतात.

²⁸Whoso is confident in his wealth he falleth, And as a leaf, the righteous flourish.

²⁸जो माणूस आपल्या श्रीमंतीवर विश्वास ठेवतो तो पिवळ्या झालेल्या पानासारखा खाली पडतो. परंतु चांगला माणूस नव्या हिरव्या पानाप्रमाणे वाढत राहील.

²⁹Whoso is troubling his own house inheriteth wind, And a servant [is] the fool to the wise of heart.

²⁹जर एखाद्याने त्याच्या कुटुंबावर संकटे आणली तर त्याला काहीही मिळणार नाही आणि शेवटी मूर्खाला शहाण्या माणसाची जबरदस्तीने सेवा करावी लागेल.

³⁰The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life, And whoso is taking souls [is] wise.

³⁰चांगला माणूस ज्या गोष्टी करतो त्या जीवनवृक्षासारख्या असतात. शहाणा माणूस लोकांना नवे आयुष्य देतो.

³¹Lo, the righteous in the earth is recompensed, Surely also the wicked and the sinner!

³¹जर पृथ्वीवर चांगल्या माणसांना बक्षीस मिळाले तर दुष्टांनासुध्दा त्याच्या पात्रतेनुसार काही तरी मिळेल.
