¹And there was a certain one ailing, Lazarus, from Bethany, of the village of Mary and Martha her sister —

¹ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਰੋਗ਼ੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਬੈਤਅਨਿਯਾ ਨਗਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਉਹ ਨਗਰੀ ਸੀ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਮਾਰਥਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ।

²and it was Mary who did anoint the Lord with ointment, and did wipe his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ailing —

²ਇਹ ਔਰਤ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਤਰ ਛਿਡ਼ਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਲਾਂ, ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਪੂੰਝੇ। ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਸੀ।

³therefore sent the sisters unto him, saying, `Sir, lo, he whom thou dost love is ailing;`

³ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਰਥਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਹੈ।”

⁴and Jesus having heard, said, `This ailment is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.`

⁴ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਸ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਹਿਮਾਮਈ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਆਈ ਹੈ।”

⁵And Jesus was loving Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus,

⁵ਯਿਸੂ, ਮਰਿਯਮ, ਮਾਰਥਾ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।

⁶when, therefore, he heard that he is ailing, then indeed he remained in the place in which he was two days,

⁶ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਬਡ਼ਾ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਉਹ ਸੀ, ਉਥੇ ਦੋ ਦਿਨ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਰੁਕ ਗਿਆ।

⁷then after this, he saith to the disciples, `We may go to Judea again;`

⁷ਤਦ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।”

⁸the disciples say to him, `Rabbi, now were the Jews seeking to stone thee, and again thou dost go thither!`

⁸ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ! ਥੋਡ਼ਾ ਚਿਰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੱਥਰਾਵ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।”

⁹Jesus answered, `Are there not twelve hours in the day? if any one may walk in the day, he doth not stumble, because the light of this world he doth see;

⁹ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਕੀ ਦਿਨ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਬਾਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਘੰਟੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ? ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੀ ਠੋਕਰ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

¹⁰and if any one may walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.`

¹⁰ਪਰ ਜੋ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਰਾਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਠੋਕਰ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਰੋਸ਼ਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।”

¹¹These things he said, and after this he saith to them, `Lazarus our friend hath fallen asleep, but I go on that I may awake him;`

¹¹ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸਾਡਾ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਇਸ ਵਕਤ ਸੌਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਉਠਾਲਣ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ।”

¹²therefore said his disciples, `Sir, if he hath fallen asleep, he will be saved;`

¹²ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਸੌਂ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਠੀਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”

¹³but Jesus had spoken about his death, but they thought that about the repose of sleep he speaketh.

¹³ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਕਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਸੀ। ਪਰ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਬਾਰੇ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।

¹⁴Then, therefore, Jesus said to them freely, `Lazarus hath died;

¹⁴ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ਼-ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਮਰ ਚੁਕਿਆ ਹੈ।

¹⁵and I rejoice, for your sake, (that ye may believe,) that I was not there; but we may go to him;`

¹⁵ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਵਕਤ ਮੈਂ ਉਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਾਂ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰੋਂਗੇ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਚਲੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਥੇ ਚੱਲੀਏ।”

¹⁶therefore said Thomas, who is called Didymus, to the fellow-disciples, `We may go — we also, that we may die with him,`

¹⁶ਤਦ ਥੋਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿਹਡ਼ਾ ਦਦਿਮੁਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੱਦੀਦਾ ਸੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਚੇਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਚਲੋ ਆਓ ਅਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲੀਏ। ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਈਏ।

¹⁷Jesus, therefore, having come, found him having been four days already in the tomb.

¹⁷ਯਿਸੂ ਬੈਤਅਨਿਯਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਬਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਆਂ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸਨ।

¹⁸And Bethany was nigh to Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off,

¹⁸ਬੈਤਅਨਿਯਾ ਅਤੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਦੋ ਮੀਲ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਦੂਰੀ ਸੀ।

¹⁹and many of the Jews had come unto Martha and Mary, that they might comfort them concerning their brother;

¹⁹ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਮਾਰਥਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਕੋਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਅਫ਼ਸੋਸ ਕਰਨ ਆਏ।

²⁰Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus doth come, met him, and Mary kept sitting in the house.

²⁰ਜਦ ਮਾਰਥਾ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਬਾਹਰ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ਪਰ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਰਹੀ।

²¹Martha, therefore, said unto Jesus, `Sir, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;

²¹ਮਾਰਥਾ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਥੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਭਰਾ ਨਾ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

²²but even now, I have known that whatever thou mayest ask of God, God will give to thee;`

²²ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ, ਜੋ ਵੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੰਗੋਂਗੇ, ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।”

²³Jesus saith to her, `Thy brother shall rise again.`

²³ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੇਰਾ ਭਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵੱਲ ਵਾਪਸ ਆਵੇਗਾ।”

²⁴Martha saith to him, `I have known that he will rise again, in the rising again in the last day;`

²⁴ਮਾਰਥਾ ਬੋਲੀ “ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪੁਨਰ-ਉਥਾਨ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਅੰਤਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਉਭਰੇਗਾ।”

²⁵Jesus said to her, `I am the rising again, and the life; he who is believing in me, even if he may die, shall live;

²⁵ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪੁਨਰ ਉਥਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੈਂ ਹਾਂ। ਜਿਹਡ਼ਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ ਜਿਉਣਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਖੇਗਾ।

²⁶and every one who is living and believing in me shall not die — to the age;

²⁶ਹਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ, ਜੋ ਜਿਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰੇਗਾ। ਮਾਰਥਾ, ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਇਸਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ?”

²⁷believest thou this?` she saith to him, `Yes, sir, I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming to the world.`

²⁷ਮਾਰਥਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਮੈਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਸੀਹ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।”

²⁸And these things having said, she went away, and called Mary her sister privately, saying, `The Teacher is present, and doth call thee;`

²⁸ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਆਖਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਮਾਰਥਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਭੈਣ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਕੋਲ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਕਲਿਆਂ ਗ੍ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਗੁਰੂ ਇਥੇ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁਛ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।”

²⁹she, when she heard, riseth up quickly, and doth come to him;

²⁹ਜਦੋਂ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਝੱਟ ਉਠ ਖਢ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੋਲ ਗਈ।

³⁰and Jesus had not yet come to the village, but was in the place where Martha met him;

³⁰ਯਿਸੂ ਹਾਲੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਸੀ, ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹ ਅਜੇ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਸੀ ਜਿਥੇ ਮਾਰਥਾ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਆਈ ਸੀ।

³¹the Jews, therefore, who were with her in the house, and were comforting her, having seen Mary that she rose up quickly and went forth, followed her, saying — `She doth go away to the tomb, that she may weep there.`

³¹ਜਿਹਡ਼ੇ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਦਿਲਾਸਾ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੂੰ ਜਲਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਠਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਘਰ ਛੱਡਾਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਿਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਬਰ ਤੇ ਰੋਣ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।

³²Mary, therefore, when she came where Jesus was, having seen him, fell at his feet, saying to him, `Sir, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;`

³²ਮਰਿਯਮ ਉਥੇ ਆਈ ਜਿਥੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਉਹ ਉਸਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਈ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ, ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਥੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਮੇਰਾ ਭਰਾ ਨਾ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ।”

³³Jesus, therefore, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, did groan in the spirit, and troubled himself, and he said,

³³ਜਦੋਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਏ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਂਦੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਡ਼ਾ ਦਰਦ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ।

³⁴`Where have ye laid him?` they say to him, `Sir, come and see;`

³⁴ਉਸਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਥੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ।” ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਓ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖੋ।”

³⁵Jesus wept.

³⁵ਯਿਸੂ ਰੋਇਆ,

³⁶The Jews, therefore, said, `Lo, how he was loving him!`

³⁶ਫਿਰ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖੋ, ਉਸਨੇ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।”

³⁷and certain of them said, `Was not this one, who did open the eyes of the blind man, able to cause that also this one might not have died?`

³⁷ਪਰ ਕੁਝ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਉਹ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਕੀ ਉਹ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ।”

³⁸Jesus, therefore, again groaning in himself, cometh to the tomb, and it was a cave, and a stone was lying upon it,

³⁸ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਫੇਰ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਡ਼ਾ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ। ਯਿਸੂ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਦੀ ਕਬਰ ਉੱਪਰ ਆਇਆ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਗੁਫਾ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਪੱਥਰ ਧਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।

³⁹Jesus saith, `Take ye away the stone;` the sister of him who hath died — Martha — saith to him, `Sir, already he stinketh, for he is four days dead;`

³⁹ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਸ ਪੱਥਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਟਾ ਦੇਵੋ।” ਮਾਰਥਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਾਜ਼ਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਰਿਆਂ ਤਾਂ ਚਾਰ ਦਿਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਉਥੋਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਸਢ਼ਿਆਣ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।” ਮਾਰਥਾ ਮਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਆਦਮੀ ਦੀ ਭੈਣ ਸੀ।

⁴⁰Jesus saith to her, `Said I not to thee, that if thou mayest believe, thou shalt see the glory of God?`

⁴⁰ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਮਾਰਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਾਦ ਕਰ। ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ? ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰੇਂਗੀ ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾਂ ਵੇਖੇਂਗੀ।”

⁴¹They took away, therefore, the stone where the dead was laid, and Jesus lifted his eyes upwards, and said, `Father, I thank Thee, that Thou didst hear me;

⁴¹ਫ਼ੇਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਪੱਥਰ ਹਟਾਇਆ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਪਿਤਾ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ।

⁴²and I knew that Thou always dost hear me, but, because of the multitude that is standing by, I said [it], that they may believe that Thou didst send me.`

⁴²ਮੈਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਪਰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਆਖੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਵਕਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ।”

⁴³And these things saying, with a loud voice he cried out, `Lazarus, come forth;`

⁴³ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਉਸਨੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿਚ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ, “ਲਾਜ਼ਰ, ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਆ।”

⁴⁴and he who died came forth, being bound feet and hands with grave-clothes, and his visage with a napkin was bound about; Jesus saith to them, `Loose him, and suffer to go.`

⁴⁴ਉਹ ਮਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਦਮੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਆਇਆ। ਉਸਦੇ ਹੱਥ-ਪੈਰ ਲਿਨਨ ਦੇ ਕੱਪਡ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਟੁਕਡ਼ਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਰੁਮਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਪੇਟਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਸਦੇ ਉੱਪਰੋਂ ਕੱਪਡ਼ਾ ਹਟਾਵੋ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਦਿਓ।”

⁴⁵Many, therefore, of the Jews who came unto Mary, and beheld what Jesus did, believed in him;

⁴⁵ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਉਥੇ ਮਰਿਯਮ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਜੋ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕੀਤਾ।

⁴⁶but certain of them went away unto the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus did;

⁴⁶ਪਰ ਕੁਝ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਕੋਲ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਜਾਕੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸ੍ਸਨੇ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

⁴⁷the chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered together a sanhedrim, and said, `What may we do? because this man doth many signs?

⁴⁷ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਜਾਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਸਭਾ ਬੁਲਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ? ਇਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਕਰਿਸ਼ਮੇ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

⁴⁸if we may let him alone thus, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.`

⁴⁸ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਰੇਗਾ। ਤਦ ਫਿਰ ਰੋਮੀ ਆ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਕੌਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਗੇ।”

⁴⁹and a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being chief priest of that year, said to them, `Ye have not known anything,

⁴⁹ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਕਯਾਫ਼ਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਵਰ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਲੋਕ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ।

⁵⁰nor reason that it is good for us that one man may die for the people, and not the whole nation perish.`

⁵⁰ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਤਬਾਹੀ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ।”

⁵¹And this he said not of himself, but being chief priest of that year, he did prophesy that Jesus was about to die for the nation,

⁵¹ਕਯਾਫ਼ਾ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਾਲ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕ ਸੀ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸਨੇ ਭਵਿਖਬਾਣੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੌਮ ਲਈ ਮਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ।

⁵²and not for the nation only, but that also the children of God, who have been scattered abroad, he may gather together into one.

⁵²ਹਾਂ, ਯਿਸੂ ਸਿਰਫ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਕੌਮ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਰੇਗਾ ਸਗੋਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਚਿਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਿਹਡ਼ੇ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਿੰਡੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਮਰੇਗਾ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕਠਿਆਂ ਲਿਆ ਸਕੇ।

⁵³From that day, therefore, they took counsel together that they may kill him;

⁵³ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਨੋਂ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਬਣਾਈ।

⁵⁴Jesus, therefore, was no more freely walking among the Jews, but went away thence to the region nigh the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he tarried with his disciples.

⁵⁴ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਲ੍ਹੇ-ਆਮ ਘੁੰਮਣਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਛੱਡਕੇ ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਗਰ ਵੱਲ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਹਡ਼ਾ ਉਜਾਡ਼ ਦੇ ਨੇਡ਼ੇ ਸੀ। ਉਥੇ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਚੇਲਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਰਿਹਾ।

⁵⁵And the passover of the Jews was nigh, and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, that they might purify themselves;

⁵⁵ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪਸਾਹ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਕਈ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਏ।

⁵⁶they were seeking, therefore, Jesus, and said one with another, standing in the temple, `What doth appear to you — that he may not come to the feast?`

⁵⁶ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਲਭਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ ਮੰਦਰ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਢ਼ੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ? ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਹੋ?”

⁵⁷and both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if any one may know where he is, he may shew [it], so that they may seize him.

⁵⁷ਪਰ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਜਾਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਕਿਥੇ ਹੈ। ਉਸਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜਾਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕੈਦ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ।
