¹Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual [gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy.

¹Sekvu amon; tamen deziregu spiritajn donacojn, sed prefere, ke vi profetadu.

²For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

²CXar tiu, kiu per lingvo parolas, ne al homoj parolas, sed al Dio; cxar neniu komprenas, sed en la spirito li parolas misterojn.

³But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and exhortation, and consolation.

³Sed la profetanto parolas al homoj edifon kaj konsilon kaj konsolon.

⁴He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

⁴Tiu, kiu per lingvo parolas, edifas sin mem; sed la profetanto edifas la eklezion.

⁵Now I would have you all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy: and greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

⁵Mi volas, ke vi cxiuj parolu per lingvoj, sed prefere, ke vi profetadu; kaj pli granda estas la profetanto, ol la per lingvoj parolanta, krom se li ankaux interpretas, por ke la eklezio ricevu edifon.

⁶But now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?

⁶Sed nun, fratoj, se mi venus al vi, parolante per lingvoj, kiel mi vin helpus, se mi ne parolus al vi, aux en formo de malkasxado, aux de sciado, aux de profetado, aux de instruado?

⁷Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they give not a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?

⁷Ecx la senvivajxoj, kiuj produktas sonon, cxu fluto, cxu harpo, se ili ne donas diferencon en la sonoj, kiel oni scios, kio estas flutata aux harpata?

⁸For if the trumpet give an uncertain voice, who shall prepare himself for war?

⁸CXar se la trumpeto donos necertan vocxon, kiu pretigxos por batalo?

⁹So also ye, unless ye utter by the tongue speech easy to understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking into the air.

⁹Tiel ankaux vi, se vi per la lango ne donas parolon facile kompreneblan, kiel oni scios, kio estas parolata? cxar en la aeron vi parolus.

¹⁰There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and no [kind] is without signification.

¹⁰Eble estas tiom da specoj de vocxoj en la mondo, kaj nenia estas sensignifa.

¹¹If then I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian unto me.

¹¹Se do mi ne scios la signifon de la vocxo, mi estos, rilate la parolanton, barbaro, kaj la parolanto estos por mi barbaro.

¹²So also ye, since ye are zealous of spiritual [gifts], seek that ye may abound unto the edifying of the church.

¹²Tiel same ankaux vi, dum vi fervore deziras spiritajn donacojn, klopodu, ke vi havu abunde por la edifo de la eklezio.

¹³Wherefore let him that speaketh in a tongue pray that he may interpret.

¹³Tial kiu parolas per lingvo, tiu pregxu, ke li interpretu.

¹⁴For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

¹⁴CXar se mi pregxas per lingvo, mia spirito pregxas, sed mia intelekto estas senfrukta.

¹⁵What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

¹⁵Kio do estas? Mi pregxos spirite, kaj mi pregxos ankaux intelekte; mi kantos spirite, kaj mi kantos ankaux intelekte.

¹⁶Else if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest?

¹⁶Alie, se vi benas spirite, kiamaniere tiu, kiu okupas la lokon de la malklerulo, diros Amen cxe via dankesprimo? cxar li ne scias, kion vi diras.

¹⁷For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

¹⁷CXar vi ja bone dankesprimas, sed la alia ne estas edifata.

¹⁸I thank God, I speak with tongues more than you all:

¹⁸Mi dankas Dion, mi parolas per lingvoj pli ol vi cxiuj;

¹⁹howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

¹⁹tamen en la eklezio mi preferus paroli kvin vortojn per mia intelekto, por ke mi instruu ankaux aliajn, ol dek mil vortojn per lingvo.

²⁰Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men.

²⁰Fratoj, ne estu infanoj en viaj mensoj; tamen en malico estu infanetoj, sed en la mensoj estu plenagxuloj.

²¹In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people; and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord.

²¹En la legxo estas skribite:Per balbutantaj lipoj kaj per lingvo fremda Mi parolos al cxi tiu popolo; kaj tamen tiel ili ne volos auxskulti Min, diras la Eternulo.

²²Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving: but prophesying [is for a sign], not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe.

²²Tial la lingvoj estas kiel signo, ne al la kredantoj, sed al la nekredantoj; sed la profetpovo estas kiel signo, ne al la nekredantoj, sed al la kredantoj.

²³If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues, and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad?

²³Se do la tuta eklezio kunvenos, kaj cxiuj parolos per lingvoj, kaj tien envenos nekleruloj aux nekredantoj, cxu ili ne diros, ke vi frenezas?

²⁴But if all prophesy, and there come in one unbelieving or unlearned, he is reproved by all, he is judged by all;

²⁴Sed se cxiuj profetos, kaj envenos nekredanto aux neklerulo, li estos konvinkata de cxiuj, li estos jugxata de cxiuj;

²⁵the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.

²⁵la sekretoj de lia koro estos elmontrataj; kaj sekve li falos sur sian vizagxon kaj adoros Dion, deklarante, ke Dio ja estas cxe vi.

²⁶What is it then, brethren? When ye come together, each one hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

²⁶Kio do estas, fratoj? Kiam vi kunvenas, cxiu havas psalmon, havas instruon, havas malkasxajxon, havas lingvon, havas interpretajxon. CXio farigxu por edifo.

²⁷If any man speaketh in a tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most three, and [that] in turn; and let one interpret:

²⁷Se oni parolas per lingvo, tio estu duope, aux triope je plejmulto, kaj lauxvice; kaj unu interpretu;

²⁸but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

²⁸sed se ne cxeestas interpretanto, oni silentu en la eklezio; kaj li parolu al si kaj al Dio.

²⁹And let the prophets speak [by] two or three, and let the others discern.

²⁹Kaj la profetoj parolu duope aux triope, kaj la aliaj interdiferencigu.

³⁰But if a revelation be made to another sitting by, let the first keep silence.

³⁰Sed se al alia apudsidanta io malkasxigxos, la unua silentu.

³¹For ye all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted;

³¹CXar vi cxiuj povas profeti unuope lauxvice, por ke cxiuj lernu, kaj cxiuj ricevu konsilon;

³²and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets;

³²kaj la spiritoj de la profetoj estas submetataj al la profetoj;

³³for God is not [a God] of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

³³cxar Dio estas Dio ne de konfuzo, sed de paco; kiel en cxiuj eklezioj de la sanktuloj.

³⁴let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law.

³⁴La virinoj silentadu en la eklezioj; cxar ne estas permesate al ili paroli, sed ili submetigxu, kiel ankaux diras la legxo.

³⁵And if they would learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home: for it is shameful for a woman to speak in the church.

³⁵Kaj se ili volas lerni ion, ili demandu al siaj edzoj hejme; cxar estas honte por virino paroli en la eklezio.

³⁶What? was it from you that the word of God went forth? or came it unto you alone?

³⁶Kio? cxu el vi la vorto de Dio eliris? cxu gxi venis al vi solaj?

³⁷If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him take knowledge of the things which I write unto you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.

³⁷Se iu sxajnas al si esti profeto aux lauxspirita, li sciigxu pri tio, kion mi skribas al vi, ke gxi estas la ordono de la Sinjoro.

³⁸But if any man is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

³⁸Sed se iu ne scias, li ne sciu.

³⁹Wherefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

³⁹Tial, fratoj, deziregu profeti, kaj ne malpermesu paroli per lingvoj.

⁴⁰But let all things be done decently and in order.

⁴⁰Sed cxio farigxu konvene kaj lauxorde.
