¹Then David said, This is the house of Jehovah God, and this is the altar of burnt-offering for Israel.

¹Et David dit: Ici sera la maison de l'Eternel Dieu, et ici sera l'autel des holocaustes pour Israël.

¹ויאמר דויד זה הוא בית יהוה האלהים וזה מזבח לעלה לישראל׃

²And David commanded to gather together the sojourners that were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to hew wrought stones to build the house of God.

²David fit rassembler les étrangers qui étaient dans le pays d'Israël, et il chargea des tailleurs de pierres de préparer des pierres de taille pour la construction de la maison de Dieu.

²ויאמר דויד לכנוס את הגרים אשר בארץ ישראל ויעמד חצבים לחצוב אבני גזית לבנות בית האלהים׃

³And David prepared iron in abundance for the nails for the doors of the gates, and for the couplings; and brass in abundance without weight;

³Il prépara aussi du fer en abondance pour les clous des battants des portes et pour les crampons, de l'airain en quantité telle qu'il n'était pas possible de le peser,

³וברזל לרב למסמרים לדלתות השערים ולמחברות הכין דויד ונחשת לרב אין משקל׃

⁴and cedar-trees without number: for the Sidonians and they of Tyre brought cedar-trees in abundance to David.

⁴et des bois de cèdre sans nombre, car les Sidoniens et les Tyriens avaient amené à David des bois de cèdre en abondance.

⁴ועצי ארזים לאין מספר כי הביאו הצידנים והצרים עצי ארזים לרב לדויד׃

⁵And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for Jehovah must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.

⁵David disait: Mon fils Salomon est jeune et d'un âge faible, et la maison qui sera bâtie à l'Eternel s'élèvera à un haut degré de renommée et de gloire dans tous les pays; c'est pourquoi je veux faire pour lui des préparatifs. Et David fit beaucoup de préparatifs avant sa mort.

⁵ויאמר דויד שלמה בני נער ורך והבית לבנות ליהוה להגדיל למעלה לשם ולתפארת לכל הארצות אכינה נא לו ויכן דויד לרב לפני מותו׃

⁶Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for Jehovah, the God of Israel.

⁶David appela Salomon, son fils, et lui ordonna de bâtir une maison à l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël.

⁶ויקרא לשלמה בנו ויצוהו לבנות בית ליהוה אלהי ישראל׃

⁷And David said to Solomon his son, As for me, it was in my heart to build a house unto the name of Jehovah my God.

⁷David dit à Salomon: Mon fils, j'avais l'intention de bâtir une maison au nom de l'Eternel, mon Dieu.

⁷ויאמר דויד לשלמה בנו אני היה עם לבבי לבנות בית לשם יהוה אלהי׃

⁸But the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build a house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.

⁸Mais la parole de l'Eternel m'a été ainsi adressée: Tu as versé beaucoup de sang, et tu as fait de grandes guerres; tu ne bâtiras pas une maison à mon nom, car tu as versé devant moi beaucoup de sang sur la terre.

⁸ויהי עלי דבר יהוה לאמר דם לרב שפכת ומלחמות גדלות עשית לא תבנה בית לשמי כי דמים רבים שפכת ארצה לפני׃

⁹Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days:

⁹Voici, il te naîtra un fils, qui sera un homme de repos, et à qui je donnerai du repos en le délivrant de tous ses ennemis d'alentour; car Salomon sera son nom, et je ferai venir sur Israël la paix et la tranquillité pendant sa vie.

⁹הנה בן נולד לך הוא יהיה איש מנוחה והנחותי לו מכל אויביו מסביב כי שלמה יהיה שמו ושלום ושקט אתן על ישראל בימיו׃

¹⁰he shall build a house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever.

¹⁰Ce sera lui qui bâtira une maison à mon nom. Il sera pour moi un fils, et je serai pour lui un père; et j'affermirai pour toujours le trône de son royaume en Israël.

¹⁰הוא יבנה בית לשמי והוא יהיה לי לבן ואני לו לאב והכינותי כסא מלכותו על ישראל עד עולם׃

¹¹Now, my son, Jehovah be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of Jehovah thy God, as he hath spoken concerning thee.

¹¹Maintenant, mon fils, que l'Eternel soit avec toi, afin que tu prospères et que tu bâtisses la maison de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, comme il l'a déclaré à ton égard!

¹¹עתה בני יהי יהוה עמך והצלחת ובנית בית יהוה אלהיך כאשר דבר עליך׃

¹²Only Jehovah give thee discretion and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel; that so thou mayest keep the law of Jehovah thy God.

¹²Veuille seulement l'Eternel t'accorder de la sagesse et de l'intelligence, et te faire régner sur Israël dans l'observation de la loi de l'Eternel, ton Dieu!

¹²אך יתן לך יהוה שכל ובינה ויצוך על ישראל ולשמור את תורת יהוה אלהיך׃

¹³Then shalt thou prosper, if thou observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Jehovah charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; fear not, neither be dismayed.

¹³Alors tu prospéreras, si tu as soin de mettre en pratique les lois et les ordonnances que l'Eternel a prescrites à Moïse pour Israël. Fortifie-toi et prends courage, ne crains point et ne t'effraie point.

¹³אז תצליח אם תשמור לעשות את החקים ואת המשפטים אשר צוה יהוה את משה על ישראל חזק ואמץ אל תירא ואל תחת׃

¹⁴Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for the house of Jehovah a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.

¹⁴Voici, par mes efforts, j'ai préparé pour la maison de l'Eternel cent mille talents d'or, un million de talents d'argent, et une quantité d'airain et de fer qu'il n'est pas possible de peser, car il y en a en abondance; j'ai aussi préparé du bois et des pierres, et tu en ajouteras encore.

¹⁴והנה בעניי הכינותי לבית יהוה זהב ככרים מאה אלף וכסף אלף אלפים ככרים ולנחשת ולברזל אין משקל כי לרב היה ועצים ואבנים הכינותי ועליהם תוסיף׃

¹⁵Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all men that are skilful in every manner of work:

¹⁵Tu as auprès de toi un grand nombre d'ouvriers, des tailleurs de pierres, et des charpentiers, et des hommes habiles dans toute espèce d'ouvrages.

¹⁵ועמך לרב עשי מלאכה חצבים וחרשי אבן ועץ וכל חכם בכל מלאכה׃

¹⁶of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and Jehovah be with thee.

¹⁶L'or, l'argent, l'airain et le fer, sont sans nombre. Lève-toi et agis, et que l'Eternel soit avec toi!

¹⁶לזהב לכסף ולנחשת ולברזל אין מספר קום ועשה ויהי יהוה עמך׃

¹⁷David also commanded all the princes of Israel to help Solomon his son, [saying],

¹⁷David ordonna à tous les chefs d'Israël de venir en aide à Salomon, son fils.

¹⁷ויצו דויד לכל שרי ישראל לעזר לשלמה בנו׃

¹⁸Is not Jehovah your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand; and the land is subdued before Jehovah, and before his people.

¹⁸L'Eternel, votre Dieu, n'est-il pas avec vous, et ne vous a-t-il pas donné du repos de tous côtés? Car il a livré entre mes mains les habitants du pays, et le pays est assujetti devant l'Eternel et devant son peuple.

¹⁸הלא יהוה אלהיכם עמכם והניח לכם מסביב כי נתן בידי את ישבי הארץ ונכבשה הארץ לפני יהוה ולפני עמו׃

¹⁹Now set your heart and your soul to seek after Jehovah your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of Jehovah God, to bring the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of Jehovah.

¹⁹Appliquez maintenant votre coeur et votre âme à chercher l'Eternel, votre Dieu; levez-vous, et bâtissez le sanctuaire de l'Eternel Dieu, afin d'amener l'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel et les ustensiles consacrés à Dieu dans la maison qui sera bâtie au nom de l'Eternel.

¹⁹עתה תנו לבבכם ונפשכם לדרוש ליהוה אלהיכם וקומו ובנו את מקדש יהוה האלהים להביא את ארון ברית יהוה וכלי קדש האלהים לבית הנבנה לשם יהוה׃
