¹Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

¹David, âgé et rassasié de jours, établit Salomon, son fils, roi sur Israël.

¹ודויד זקן ושבע ימים וימלך את שלמה בנו על ישראל׃

²And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

²Il assembla tous les chefs d'Israël, les sacrificateurs et les Lévites.

²ויאסף את כל שרי ישראל והכהנים והלוים׃

³And the Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

³On fit le dénombrement des Lévites, depuis l'âge de trente ans et au-dessus; comptés par tête et par homme, ils se trouvèrent au nombre de trente-huit mille.

³ויספרו הלוים מבן שלשים שנה ומעלה ויהי מספרם לגלגלתם לגברים שלשים ושמונה אלף׃

⁴Of these, twenty and four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Jehovah; and six thousand were officers and judges;

⁴Et David dit: Qu'il y en ait vingt-quatre mille pour veiller aux offices de la maison de l'Eternel, six mille comme magistrats et juges,

⁴מאלה לנצח על מלאכת בית יהוה עשרים וארבעה אלף ושטרים ושפטים ששת אלפים׃

⁵and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Jehovah with the instruments which I made, [said David], to praise therewith.

⁵quatre mille comme portiers, et quatre mille chargés de louer l'Eternel avec les instruments que j'ai faits pour le célébrer.

⁵וארבעת אלפים שערים וארבעת אלפים מהללים ליהוה בכלים אשר עשיתי להלל׃

⁶And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

⁶David les divisa en classes d'après les fils de Lévi, Guerschon, Kehath et Merari.

⁶ויחלקם דויד מחלקות לבני לוי לגרשון קהת ומררי׃

⁷Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

⁸The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

⁸Fils de Laedan: le chef Jehiel, Zétham et Joël, trois.

⁸בני לעדן הראש יחיאל וזתם ויואל שלשה׃

⁹The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' [houses] of Ladan.

⁹Fils de Schimeï: Schelomith, Haziel et Haran, trois. Ce sont là les chefs des maisons paternelles de la famille de Laedan. -

⁹בני שמעי שלמות וחזיאל והרן שלשה אלה ראשי האבות ללעדן׃

¹⁰And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

¹⁰Fils de Schimeï: Jachath, Zina, Jeusch et Beria. Ce sont là les quatre fils de Schimeï.

¹⁰ובני שמעי יחת זינא ויעוש ובריעה אלה בני שמעי ארבעה׃

¹¹And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.

¹¹Jachath était le chef, et Zina le second; Jeusch et Beria n'eurent pas beaucoup de fils, et ils formèrent une seule maison paternelle dans le dénombrement.

¹¹ויהי יחת הראש וזיזה השני ויעוש ובריעה לא הרבו בנים ויהיו לבית אב לפקדה אחת׃

¹²The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

¹²Fils de Kehath: Amram, Jitsehar, Hébron et Uziel, quatre. -

¹²בני קהת עמרם יצהר חברון ועזיאל ארבעה׃

¹³The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, for ever, to burn incense before Jehovah, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, for ever.

¹³Fils d'Amram: Aaron et Moïse. Aaron fut mis à part pour être sanctifié comme très saint, lui et ses fils à perpétuité, pour offrir les parfums devant l'Eternel, pour faire son service, et pour bénir à toujours en son nom.

¹³בני עמרם אהרן ומשה ויבדל אהרן להקדישו קדש קדשים הוא ובניו עד עולם להקטיר לפני יהוה לשרתו ולברך בשמו עד עולם׃

¹⁴But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

¹⁴Mais les fils de Moïse, homme de Dieu, furent comptés dans la tribu de Lévi.

¹⁴ומשה איש האלהים בניו יקראו על שבט הלוי׃

¹⁵The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

¹⁵Fils de Moïse: Guerschom et Eliézer.

¹⁵בני משה גרשם ואליעזר׃

¹⁶The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.

¹⁶Fils de Guerschom: Schebuel, le chef.

¹⁶בני גרשום שבואל הראש׃

¹⁷And the sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

¹⁷Et les fils d'Eliézer furent: Rechabia, le chef; Eliézer n'eut pas d'autre fils, mais les fils de Rechabia furent très nombreux. -

¹⁷ויהיו בני אליעזר רחביה הראש ולא היה לאליעזר בנים אחרים ובני רחביה רבו למעלה׃

¹⁸The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.

¹⁸בני יצהר שלמית הראש׃

¹⁹The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

¹⁹Fils d'Hébron: Jerija, le chef; Amaria, le second; Jachaziel, le troisième; et Jekameam, le quatrième. -

¹⁹בני חברון יריהו הראש אמריה השני יחזיאל השלישי ויקמעם הרביעי׃

²⁰The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

²⁰Fils d'Uziel: Michée, le chef; et Jischija, le second.

²⁰בני עזיאל מיכה הראש וישיה השני׃

²¹The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

²¹Fils de Merari: Machli et Muschi. -Fils de Machli: Eléazar et Kis.

²¹בני מררי מחלי ומושי בני מחלי אלעזר וקיש׃

²²And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them [to wife].

²²Eléazar mourut sans avoir de fils; mais il eut des filles, que prirent pour femmes les fils de Kis, leurs frères. -

²²וימת אלעזר ולא היו לו בנים כי אם בנות וישאום בני קיש אחיהם׃

²³The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

²³Fils de Muschi: Machli, Eder et Jerémoth, trois.

²³בני מושי מחלי ועדר וירמות שלשה׃

²⁴These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' [houses] of those of them that were counted, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of Jehovah, from twenty years old and upward.

²⁴Ce sont là les fils de Lévi, selon leurs maisons paternelles, les chefs des maisons paternelles, d'après le dénombrement qu'on en fit en comptant les noms par tête. Ils étaient employés au service de la maison de l'Eternel, depuis l'âge de vingt ans et au-dessus.

²⁴אלה בני לוי לבית אבתיהם ראשי האבות לפקודיהם במספר שמות לגלגלתם עשה המלאכה לעבדת בית יהוה מבן עשרים שנה ומעלה׃

²⁵For David said, Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath given rest unto his people; and he dwelleth in Jerusalem for ever:

²⁵Car David dit: L'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, a donné du repos à son peuple, et il habitera pour toujours à Jérusalem;

²⁵כי אמר דויד הניח יהוה אלהי ישראל לעמו וישכן בירושלם עד לעולם׃

²⁶and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.

²⁶et les Lévites n'auront plus à porter le tabernacle et tous les ustensiles pour son service.

²⁶וגם ללוים אין לשאת את המשכן ואת כל כליו לעבדתו׃

²⁷For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward.

²⁷Ce fut d'après les derniers ordres de David qu'eut lieu le dénombrement des fils de Lévi depuis l'âge de vingt ans et au-dessus.

²⁷כי בדברי דויד האחרנים המה מספר בני לוי מבן עשרים שנה ולמעלה׃

²⁸For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Jehovah, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;

²⁸Placés auprès des fils d'Aaron pour le service de la maison de l'Eternel, ils avaient à prendre soin des parvis et des chambres, de la purification de toutes les choses saintes, des ouvrages concernant le service de la maison de Dieu,

²⁸כי מעמדם ליד בני אהרן לעבדת בית יהוה על החצרות ועל הלשכות ועל טהרת לכל קדש ומעשה עבדת בית האלהים׃

²⁹for the showbread also, and for the fine flour for a meal-offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size;

²⁹des pains de proposition, de la fleur de farine pour les offrandes, des galettes sans levain, des gâteaux cuits sur la plaque et des gâteaux frits, de toutes les mesures de capacité et de longueur:

²⁹וללחם המערכת ולסלת למנחה ולרקיקי המצות ולמחבת ולמרבכת ולכל משורה ומדה׃

³⁰and to stand every morning to thank and praise Jehovah, and likewise at even;

³⁰ils avaient à se présenter chaque matin et chaque soir, afin de louer et de célébrer l'Eternel,

³⁰ולעמד בבקר בבקר להדות ולהלל ליהוה וכן לערב׃

³¹and to offer all burnt-offerings unto Jehovah, on the sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Jehovah;

³¹et à offrir continuellement devant l'Eternel tous les holocaustes à l'Eternel, aux sabbats, aux nouvelles lunes et aux fêtes, selon le nombre et les usages prescrits.

³¹ולכל העלות עלות ליהוה לשבתות לחדשים ולמעדים במספר כמשפט עליהם תמיד לפני יהוה׃

³²and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, for the service of the house of Jehovah.

³²Ils donnaient leurs soins à la tente d'assignation, au sanctuaire, et aux fils d'Aaron, leurs frères, pour le service de la maison de l'Eternel.

³²ושמרו את משמרת אהל מועד ואת משמרת הקדש ומשמרת בני אהרן אחיהם לעבדת בית יהוה׃
