¹For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

¹Frères, je ne veux pas que vous ignoriez que nos pères ont tous été sous la nuée, qu'ils ont tous passé au travers de la mer,

¹ולא אכחד מכם אחי אשר אבותינו היו כלם תחת הענן וכלם עברו בתוך הים׃

²and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

²qu'ils ont tous été baptisés en Moïse dans la nuée et dans la mer,

²וכלם נטבלו למשה בענן ובים׃

³and did all eat the same spiritual food;

³qu'ils ont tous mangé le même aliment spirituel,

³וכלם אכלם מאכל אחד רוחני׃

⁴and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.

⁴et qu'ils ont tous bu le même breuvage spirituel, car ils buvaient à un rocher spirituel qui les suivait, et ce rocher était Christ.

⁴וכלם שתו משקה אחד רוחני כי שתו מן הצור הרוחני ההלך עמהם והצור ההוא היה המשיח׃

⁵Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

⁵Mais la plupart d'entre eux ne furent point agréables à Dieu, puisqu'ils périrent dans le désert.

⁵אבל ברבם לא רצה האלהים ופגריהם נפלו במדבר׃

⁶Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

⁶Or, ces choses sont arrivées pour nous servir d'exemples, afin que nous n'ayons pas de mauvais désirs, comme ils en ont eu.

⁶וכל זאת היתה לנו למופת לבלתי התאות לרעה כאשר התאוו גם המה׃

⁷Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

⁷Ne devenez point idolâtres, comme quelques-uns d'eux, selon qu'il est écrit: Le peuple s'assit pour manger et pour boire; puis ils se levèrent pour se divertir.

⁷ולא תהיו עבדי אלילים כאשר היו מקצתם כמו שכתוב וישב העם לאכל ושתו ויקמו לצחק׃

⁸Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

⁸Ne nous livrons point à l'impudicité, comme quelques-uns d'eux s'y livrèrent, de sorte qu'il en tomba vingt-trois mille en un seul jour.

⁸ולא נהיה זנים כאשר זנו מקצתם ויפלו ביום אחד שלשה ועשרים אלף איש׃

⁹Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.

⁹Ne tentons point le Seigneur, comme le tentèrent quelques-uns d'eux, qui périrent par les serpents.

⁹ולא ננסה את המשיח כאשר נסוהו מקצתם ויאבדום הנחשים׃

¹⁰Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.

¹⁰Ne murmurez point, comme murmurèrent quelques-uns d'eux, qui périrent par l'exterminateur.

¹⁰גם לא תלינו כאשר הלינו מקצתם וימותו ביד המשחית׃

¹¹Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

¹¹Ces choses leur sont arrivées pour servir d'exemples, et elles ont été écrites pour notre instruction, à nous qui sommes parvenus à la fin des siècles.

¹¹כל זאת מצאתם להיות למופת ותכתב למוסר לנו אשר הגיעו אלינו קצי העולמים׃

¹²Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

¹²Ainsi donc, que celui qui croit être debout prenne garde de tomber!

¹²לכן החשב שהוא נצב ירא פן יפול׃

¹³There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.

¹³Aucune tentation ne vous est survenue qui n'ait été humaine, et Dieu, qui est fidèle, ne permettra pas que vous soyez tentés au delà de vos forces; mais avec la tentation il préparera aussi le moyen d'en sortir, afin que vous puissiez la supporter.

¹³עדין לא בא עליכם נסיון אחר בלתי אם נסיון בני אדם כי נאמן הוא האלהים אשר לא יניח לנסות אתכם למעלה מיכלתכם כי אם יתן עם הנסיון גם תוצאתיו כדי שתוכלו שאת׃

¹⁴Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

¹⁴C'est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez l'idolâtrie.

¹⁴על כן חביבי נוסו מעבודת אלילים׃

¹⁵I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

¹⁵Je parle comme à des hommes intelligents; jugez vous-mêmes de ce que je dis.

¹⁵כמו אל נבונים מדבר אנכי ושפטו אתם את אשר אמר׃

¹⁶The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?

¹⁶La coupe de bénédiction que nous bénissons, n'est-elle pas la communion au sang de Christ? Le pain que nous rompons, n'est-il pas la communion au corps de Christ?

¹⁶כוס הברכה אשר אנחנו מברכים הלא היא התחברות דם המשיח והלחם אשר אנחנו בצעים הלא הוא התחברות גוף המשיח׃

¹⁷seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread.

¹⁷Puisqu'il y a un seul pain, nous qui sommes plusieurs, nous formons un seul corps; car nous participons tous à un même pain.

¹⁷כי לחם אחד הוא לכן גם נוף אחד אנחנו הרבים באשר לכלנו חלק בלחם האחד׃

¹⁸Behold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar?

¹⁸Voyez les Israélites selon la chair: ceux qui mangent les victimes ne sont-ils pas en communion avec l'autel?

¹⁸ראו את ישראל לפי הבשר הלא אכלי הזבחים חברי המזבח המה׃

¹⁹What say I then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

¹⁹Que dis-je donc? Que la viande sacrifiée aux idoles est quelque chose, ou qu'une idole est quelque chose? Nullement.

¹⁹ועתה מה אמר היש ממש באליל אם יש ממש בזבחי אלילים׃

²⁰But [I say], that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons.

²⁰Je dis que ce qu'on sacrifie, on le sacrifie à des démons, et non à Dieu; or, je ne veux pas que vous soyez en communion avec les démons.

²⁰אלא את אשר יזבחו הגוים לשדים הם זבחים ולא לאלהים ואני לא אחפץ היתכם חברים לשדים׃

²¹Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.

²¹Vous ne pouvez boire la coupe du Seigneur, et la coupe des démons; vous ne pouvez participer à la table du Seigneur, et à la table des démons.

²¹לא תוכלו לשתות יחד כוס אדנינו וגם כוס השדים ולא תוכלו להתחבר אל שלחן אדנינו וגם אל שלחן השדים׃

²²Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

²²Voulons-nous provoquer la jalousie du Seigneur? Sommes-nous plus forts que lui?

²²הנעז להקניא את אדנינו הכי חזקים אנחנו ממנו׃

²³All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.

²³Tout est permis, mais tout n'est pas utile; tout est permis, mais tout n'édifie pas.

²³הכל ברשותי אבל אין הכל מועיל הכל ברשותי אבל אין הכל בנה׃

²⁴Let no man seek his own, but [each] his neighbor's [good].

²⁴Que personne ne cherche son propre intérêt, mais que chacun cherche celui d'autrui.

²⁴איש איש אל יבקש את תועלת עצמו כי אם את תועלת רעהו׃

²⁵Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience' sake,

²⁵Mangez de tout ce qui se vend au marché, sans vous enquérir de rien par motif de conscience;

²⁵כל הנמכר במקולין אתו תאכלו ואל תחקרו מפני מכשל הלב׃

²⁶for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.

²⁶car la terre est au Seigneur, et tout ce qu'elle renferme.

²⁶כי ליהוה הארץ ומלואה׃

²⁷If one of them that believe not biddeth you [to a feast], and ye are disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience' sake.

²⁷Si un non-croyant vous invite et que vous vouliez y aller, mangez de tout ce qu'on vous présentera, sans vous enquérir de rien par motif de conscience.

²⁷ואם יקרא אתכם איש מאשר אינם מאמינים ותרצו ללכת אליו אכול תאכלו מכל אשר ישימו לפניכם ואל תחקרו מפני מכשול הלב׃

²⁸But if any man say unto you, This hath been offered in sacrifice, eat not, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake:

²⁸Mais si quelqu'un vous dit: Ceci a été offert en sacrifice! n'en mangez pas, à cause de celui qui a donné l'avertissement, et à cause de la conscience.

²⁸ואיש כי יאמר אליכם זה הוא זבח אלילים אל תאכלו בעבור המודיע ומפני מכשול הלב כי ליהוה הארץ ולמואה׃

²⁹conscience, I say, not thine own, but the other's; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience?

²⁹Je parle ici, non de votre conscience, mais de celle de l'autre. Pourquoi, en effet, ma liberté serait-elle jugée par une conscience étrangère?

²⁹והלב אשר אני אמר לא לבך כי אם לב רעך כי למה זה תשפט חרותי על ידי לב האחר׃

³⁰If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?

³⁰Si je mange avec actions de grâces, pourquoi serais-je blâmé au sujet d'une chose dont je rends grâces?

³⁰ואם אכל אני בתודה למה אהיה מגדף על הדבר אשר אני מודה עליו׃

³¹Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

³¹Soit donc que vous mangiez, soit que vous buviez, soit que vous fassiez quelque autre chose, faites tout pour la gloire de Dieu.

³¹לכן אם תאכלו או אם תשתו או כל אשר תעשו את הכל עשו לכבוד אלהים׃

³²Give no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God:

³²Ne soyez en scandale ni aux Grecs, ni aux Juifs, ni à l'Eglise de Dieu,

³²ואל תתנו מכשול לא ליהודים ולא ליונים ולא לקהלת אלהים׃

³³even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the [profit] of the many, that they may be saved.

³³de la même manière que moi aussi je m'efforce en toutes choses de complaire à tous, cherchant, non mon avantage, mais celui du plus grand nombre, afin qu'ils soient sauvés.

³³כאשר גם אנכי מבקש להיות רצוי לכל בכל ולא אבקש תועלת עצמי כי אם של הרבים למען יושעו׃
