¹Now king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites;

¹Le roi Salomon aima beaucoup de femmes étrangères, outre la fille de Pharaon: des Moabites, des Ammonites, des Edomites, des Sidoniennes, des Héthiennes,

¹והמלך שלמה אהב נשים נכריות רבות ואת בת פרעה מואביות עמניות אדמית צדנית חתית׃

²of the nations concerning which Jehovah said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you; for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.

²appartenant aux nations dont l'Eternel avait dit aux enfants d'Israël: Vous n'irez point chez elles, et elles ne viendront point chez vous; elles tourneraient certainement vos coeurs du côté de leurs dieux. Ce fut à ces nations que s'attacha Salomon, entraîné par l'amour.

²מן הגוים אשר אמר יהוה אל בני ישראל לא תבאו בהם והם לא יבאו בכם אכן יטו את לבבכם אחרי אלהיהם בהם דבק שלמה לאהבה׃

³And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.

³Il eut sept cents princesses pour femmes et trois cents concubines; et ses femmes détournèrent son coeur.

³ויהי לו נשים שרות שבע מאות ופלגשים שלש מאות ויטו נשיו את לבו׃

⁴For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Jehovah his God, as was the heart of David his father.

⁴A l'époque de la vieillesse de Salomon, ses femmes inclinèrent son coeur vers d'autres dieux; et son coeur ne fut point tout entier à l'Eternel, son Dieu, comme l'avait été le coeur de David, son père.

⁴ויהי לעת זקנת שלמה נשיו הטו את לבבו אחרי אלהים אחרים ולא היה לבבו שלם עם יהוה אלהיו כלבב דויד אביו׃

⁵For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

⁵Salomon alla après Astarté, divinité des Sidoniens, et après Milcom, l'abomination des Ammonites.

⁵וילך שלמה אחרי עשתרת אלהי צדנים ואחרי מלכם שקץ עמנים׃

⁶And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and went not fully after Jehovah, as did David his father.

⁶Et Salomon fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, et il ne suivit point pleinement l'Eternel, comme David, son père.

⁶ויעש שלמה הרע בעיני יהוה ולא מלא אחרי יהוה כדוד אביו׃

⁷Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, in the mount that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon.

⁷Alors Salomon bâtit sur la montagne qui est en face de Jérusalem un haut lieu pour Kemosch, l'abomination de Moab, et pour Moloc, l'abomination des fils d'Ammon.

⁷אז יבנה שלמה במה לכמוש שקץ מואב בהר אשר על פני ירושלם ולמלך שקץ בני עמון׃

⁸And so did he for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

⁸Et il fit ainsi pour toutes ses femmes étrangères, qui offraient des parfums et des sacrifices à leurs dieux.

⁸וכן עשה לכל נשיו הנכריות מקטירות ומזבחות לאלהיהן׃

⁹And Jehovah was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Jehovah, the God of Israel, who had appeared unto him twice,

⁹L'Eternel fut irrité contre Salomon, parce qu'il avait détourné son coeur de l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, qui lui était apparu deux fois.

⁹ויתאנף יהוה בשלמה כי נטה לבבו מעם יהוה אלהי ישראל הנראה אליו פעמים׃

¹⁰and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which Jehovah commanded.

¹⁰Il lui avait à cet égard défendu d'aller après d'autres dieux; mais Salomon n'observa point les ordres de l'Eternel.

¹⁰וצוה אליו על הדבר הזה לבלתי לכת אחרי אלהים אחרים ולא שמר את אשר צוה יהוה׃

¹¹Wherefore Jehovah said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

¹¹Et l'Eternel dit à Salomon: Puisque tu as agi de la sorte, et que tu n'as point observé mon alliance et mes lois que je t'avais prescrites, je déchirerai le royaume de dessus toi et je le donnerai à ton serviteur.

¹¹ויאמר יהוה לשלמה יען אשר היתה זאת עמך ולא שמרת בריתי וחקתי אשר צויתי עליך קרע אקרע את הממלכה מעליך ונתתיה לעבדך׃

¹²Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.

¹²Seulement, je ne le ferai point pendant ta vie, à cause de David, ton père. C'est de la main de ton fils que je l'arracherai.

¹²אך בימיך לא אעשנה למען דוד אביך מיד בנך אקרענה׃

¹³Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to thy son, for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.

¹³Je n'arracherai cependant pas tout le royaume; je laisserai une tribu à ton fils, à cause de David, mon serviteur, et à cause de Jérusalem, que j'ai choisie.

¹³רק את כל הממלכה לא אקרע שבט אחד אתן לבנך למען דוד עבדי ולמען ירושלם אשר בחרתי׃

¹⁴And Jehovah raised up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom.

¹⁴L'Eternel suscita un ennemi à Salomon: Hadad, l'Edomite, de la race royale d'Edom.

¹⁴ויקם יהוה שטן לשלמה את הדד האדמי מזרע המלך הוא באדום׃

¹⁵For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the host was gone up to bury the slain, and had smitten every male in Edom

¹⁵Dans le temps où David battit Edom, Joab, chef de l'armée, étant monté pour enterrer les morts, tua tous les mâles qui étaient en Edom;

¹⁵ויהי בהיות דוד את אדום בעלות יואב שר הצבא לקבר את החללים ויך כל זכר באדום׃

¹⁶(for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom);

¹⁶il y resta six mois avec tout Israël, jusqu'à ce qu'il en eût exterminé tous les mâles.

¹⁶כי ששת חדשים ישב שם יואב וכל ישראל עד הכרית כל זכר באדום׃

¹⁷that Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt, Hadad being yet a little child.

¹⁷Ce fut alors qu'Hadad prit la fuite avec des Edomites, serviteurs de son père, pour se rendre en Egypte. Hadad était encore un jeune garçon.

¹⁷ויברח אדד הוא ואנשים אדמיים מעבדי אביו אתו לבוא מצרים והדד נער קטן׃

¹⁸And they arose out of Midian, and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointed him victuals, and gave him land.

¹⁸Partis de Madian, ils allèrent à Paran, prirent avec eux des hommes de Paran, et arrivèrent en Egypte auprès de Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, Pharaon donna une maison à Hadad, pourvut à sa subsistance, et lui accorda des terres.

¹⁸ויקמו ממדין ויבאו פארן ויקחו אנשים עמם מפארן ויבאו מצרים אל פרעה מלך מצרים ויתן לו בית ולחם אמר לו וארץ נתן לו׃

¹⁹And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.

¹⁹Hadad trouva grâce aux yeux de Pharaon, à tel point que Pharaon lui donna pour femme la soeur de sa femme, la soeur de la reine Thachpenès.

¹⁹וימצא הדד חן בעיני פרעה מאד ויתן לו אשה את אחות אשתו אחות תחפניס הגבירה׃

²⁰And the sister of Tahpenes bare him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh's house among the sons of Pharaoh.

²⁰La soeur de Thachpenès lui enfanta son fils Guenubath. Thachpenès le sevra dans la maison de Pharaon; et Guenubath fut dans la maison de Pharaon, au milieu des enfants de Pharaon.

²⁰ותלד לו אחות תחפניס את גנבת בנו ותגמלהו תחפנס בתוך בית פרעה ויהי גנבת בית פרעה בתוך בני פרעה׃

²¹And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to mine own country.

²¹Lorsque Hadad apprit en Egypte que David était couché avec ses pères, et que Joab, chef de l'armée, était mort, il dit à Pharaon: Laisse-moi aller dans mon pays.

²¹והדד שמע במצרים כי שכב דוד עם אבתיו וכי מת יואב שר הצבא ויאמר הדד אל פרעה שלחני ואלך אל ארצי׃

²²Then Pharaoh said unto him, But what hast thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seekest to go to thine own country? And he answered, Nothing: howbeit only let me depart.

²²Et Pharaon lui dit: Que te manque-t-il auprès de moi, pour que tu désires aller dans ton pays? Il répondit: Rien, mais laisse-moi partir.

²²ויאמר לו פרעה כי מה אתה חסר עמי והנך מבקש ללכת אל ארצך ויאמר לא כי שלח תשלחני׃

²³And God raised up [another] adversary unto him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.

²³Dieu suscita un autre ennemi à Salomon: Rezon, fils d'Eliada, qui s'était enfui de chez son maître Hadadézer, roi de Tsoba.

²³ויקם אלהים לו שטן את רזון בן אלידע אשר ברח מאת הדדעזר מלך צובה אדניו׃

²⁴And he gathered men unto him, and became captain over a troop, when David slew them [of Zobah]: and they went to Damascus, and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damascus.

²⁴Il avait rassemblé des gens auprès de lui, et il était chef de bande, lorsque David massacra les troupes de son maître. Ils allèrent à Damas, et s'y établirent, et ils régnèrent à Damas.

²⁴ויקבץ עליו אנשים ויהי שר גדוד בהרג דוד אתם וילכו דמשק וישבו בה וימלכו בדמשק׃

²⁵And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besides the mischief that Hadad [did]: and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.

²⁵Il fut un ennemi d'Israël pendant toute la vie de Salomon, en même temps qu'Hadad lui faisait du mal, et il avait Israël en aversion. Il régna sur la Syrie.

²⁵ויהי שטן לישראל כל ימי שלמה ואת הרעה אשר הדד ויקץ בישראל וימלך על ארם׃

²⁶And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king.

²⁶Jéroboam aussi, serviteur de Salomon, leva la main contre le roi. Il était fils de Nebath, Ephratien de Tseréda, et il avait pour mère une veuve nommée Tserua.

²⁶וירבעם בן נבט אפרתי מן הצרדה ושם אמו צרועה אשה אלמנה עבד לשלמה וירם יד במלך׃

²⁷And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of the city of David his father.

²⁷Voici à quelle occasion il leva la main contre le roi. Salomon bâtissait Millo, et fermait la brèche de la cité de David, son père.

²⁷וזה הדבר אשר הרים יד במלך שלמה בנה את המלוא סגר את פרץ עיר דוד אביו׃

²⁸And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he gave him charge over all the labor of the house of Joseph.

²⁸Jéroboam était fort et vaillant; et Salomon, ayant vu ce jeune homme à l'oeuvre, lui donna la surveillance de tous les gens de corvée de la maison de Joseph.

²⁸והאיש ירבעם גבור חיל וירא שלמה את הנער כי עשה מלאכה הוא ויפקד אתו לכל סבל בית יוסף׃

²⁹And it came to pass at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way; now [Ahijah] had clad himself with a new garment; and they two were alone in the field.

²⁹Dans ce temps-là, Jéroboam, étant sorti de Jérusalem, fut rencontré en chemin par le prophète Achija de Silo, revêtu d'un manteau neuf. Ils étaient tous deux seuls dans les champs.

²⁹ויהי בעת ההיא וירבעם יצא מירושלם וימצא אתו אחיה השילני הנביא בדרך והוא מתכסה בשלמה חדשה ושניהם לבדם בשדה׃

³⁰And Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and rent it in twelve pieces.

³⁰Achija saisit le manteau neuf qu'il avait sur lui, le déchira en douze morceaux,

³⁰ויתפש אחיה בשלמה החדשה אשר עליו ויקרעה שנים עשר קרעים׃

³¹And he said to Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces; for thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee

³¹et dit à Jéroboam: Prends pour toi dix morceaux! Car ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je vais arracher le royaume de la main de Salomon, et je te donnerai dix tribus.

³¹ויאמר לירבעם קח לך עשרה קרעים כי כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל הנני קרע את הממלכה מיד שלמה ונתתי לך את עשרה השבטים׃

³²(but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel);

³²Mais il aura une tribu, à cause de mon serviteur David, et à cause de Jérusalem, la ville que j'ai choisie sur toutes les tribus d'Israël.

³²והשבט האחד יהיה לו למען עבדי דוד ולמען ירושלם העיר אשר בחרתי בה מכל שבטי ישראל׃

³³because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon; and they have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and [to keep] my statutes and mine ordinances, as did David his father.

³³Et cela, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, et se sont prosternés devant Astarté, divinité des Sidoniens, devant Kemosch, dieu de Moab, et devant Milcom, dieu des fils d'Ammon, et parce qu'ils n'ont point marché dans mes voies pour faire ce qui est droit à mes yeux et pour observer mes lois et mes ordonnances, comme l'a fait David, père de Salomon.

³³יען אשר עזבוני וישתחוו לעשתרת אלהי צדנין לכמוש אלהי מואב ולמלכם אלהי בני עמון ולא הלכו בדרכי לעשות הישר בעיני וחקתי ומשפטי כדוד אביו׃

³⁴Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes;

³⁴Je n'ôterai pas de sa main tout le royaume, car je le maintiendrai prince tout le temps de sa vie, à cause de David, mon serviteur, que j'ai choisi, et qui a observé mes commandements et mes lois.

³⁴ולא אקח את כל הממלכה מידו כי נשיא אשתנו כל ימי חייו למען דוד עבדי אשר בחרתי אתו אשר שמר מצותי וחקתי׃

³⁵but I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes.

³⁵Mais j'ôterai le royaume de la main de son fils, et je t'en donnerai dix tribus;

³⁵ולקחתי המלוכה מיד בנו ונתתיה לך את עשרת השבטים׃

³⁶And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a lamp alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.

³⁶je laisserai une tribu à son fils, afin que David, mon serviteur, ait toujours une lampe devant moi à Jérusalem, la ville que j'ai choisie pour y mettre mon nom.

³⁶ולבנו אתן שבט אחד למען היות ניר לדויד עבדי כל הימים לפני בירושלם העיר אשר בחרתי לי לשום שמי שם׃

³⁷And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign according to all that thy soul desireth, and shalt be king over Israel.

³⁷Je te prendrai, et tu régneras sur tout ce que ton âme désirera, tu seras roi d'Israël.

³⁷ואתך אקח ומלכת בכל אשר תאוה נפשך והיית מלך על ישראל׃

³⁸And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do that which is right in mine eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with thee, and will build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel unto thee.

³⁸Si tu obéis à tout ce que je t'ordonnerai, si tu marches dans mes voies et si tu fais ce qui est droit à mes yeux, en observant mes lois et mes commandements, comme l'a fait David, mon serviteur, je serai avec toi, je te bâtirai une maison stable, comme j'en ai bâti une à David, et je te donnerai Israël.

³⁸והיה אם תשמע את כל אשר אצוך והלכת בדרכי ועשית הישר בעיני לשמור חקותי ומצותי כאשר עשה דוד עבדי והייתי עמך ובניתי לך בית נאמן כאשר בניתי לדוד ונתתי לך את ישראל׃

³⁹And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever.

³⁹J'humilierai par là la postérité de David, mais ce ne sera pas pour toujours.

³⁹ואענה את זרע דוד למען זאת אך לא כל הימים׃

⁴⁰Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam; but Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

⁴⁰Salomon chercha à faire mourir Jéroboam. Et Jéroboam se leva et s'enfuit en Egypte auprès de Schischak, roi d'Egypte; il demeura en Egypte jusqu'à la mort de Salomon.

⁴⁰ויבקש שלמה להמית את ירבעם ויקם ירבעם ויברח מצרים אל שישק מלך מצרים ויהי במצרים עד מות שלמה׃

⁴¹Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

⁴¹Le reste des actions de Salomon, tout ce qu'il a fait, et sa sagesse, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des actes de Salomon?

⁴¹ויתר דברי שלמה וכל אשר עשה וחכמתו הלוא הם כתבים על ספר דברי שלמה׃

⁴²And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

⁴²Salomon régna quarante ans à Jérusalem sur tout Israël.

⁴²והימים אשר מלך שלמה בירושלם על כל ישראל ארבעים שנה׃

⁴³And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

⁴³Puis Salomon se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré dans la ville de David, son père. Roboam, son fils, régna à sa place.

⁴³וישכב שלמה עם אבתיו ויקבר בעיר דוד אביו וימלך רחבעם בנו תחתיו׃
