¹And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should slay David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, delighted much in David.

¹Saül parla à Jonathan, son fils, et à tous ses serviteurs, de faire mourir David.

¹וידבר שאול אל יונתן בנו ואל כל עבדיו להמית את דוד ויהונתן בן שאול חפץ בדוד מאד׃

²And Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to slay thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself in the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

²Mais Jonathan, fils de Saül, qui avait une grande affection pour David, l'en informa et lui dit: Saül, mon père, cherche à te faire mourir. Sois donc sur tes gardes demain matin, reste dans un lieu retiré, et cache-toi.

²ויגד יהונתן לדוד לאמר מבקש שאול אבי להמיתך ועתה השמר נא בבקר וישבת בסתר ונחבאת׃

³and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and if I see aught, I will tell thee.

³Je sortirai et je me tiendrai à côté de mon père dans le champ où tu seras; je parlerai de toi à mon père, je verrai ce qu'il dira, et je te le rapporterai.

³ואני אצא ועמדתי ליד אבי בשדה אשר אתה שם ואני אדבר בך אל אבי וראיתי מה והגדתי לך׃

⁴And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:

⁴Jonathan parla favorablement de David à Saül, son père: Que le roi, dit-il, ne commette pas un péché à l'égard de son serviteur David, car il n'en a point commis envers toi. Au contraire, il a agi pour ton bien;

⁴וידבר יהונתן בדוד טוב אל שאול אביו ויאמר אליו אל יחטא המלך בעבדו בדוד כי לוא חטא לך וכי מעשיו טוב לך מאד׃

⁵for he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and Jehovah wrought a great victory for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice; wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

⁵il a exposé sa vie, il a tué le Philistin, et l'Eternel a opéré une grande délivrance pour tout Israël. Tu l'as vu, et tu t'en es réjoui. Pourquoi pécherais-tu contre le sang innocent, et ferais-tu sans raison mourir David?

⁵וישם את נפשו בכפו ויך את הפלשתי ויעש יהוה תשועה גדולה לכל ישראל ראית ותשמח ולמה תחטא בדם נקי להמית את דוד חנם׃

⁶And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As Jehovah liveth, he shall not be put to death.

⁶Saül écouta la voix de Jonathan, et il jura, disant: L'Eternel est vivant! David ne mourra pas.

⁶וישמע שאול בקול יהונתן וישבע שאול חי יהוה אם יומת׃

⁷And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as beforetime.

⁷Jonathan appela David, et lui rapporta toutes ces paroles; puis il l'amena auprès de Saül, en présence de qui David fut comme auparavant.

⁷ויקרא יהונתן לדוד ויגד לו יהונתן את כל הדברים האלה ויבא יהונתן את דוד אל שאול ויהי לפניו כאתמול שלשום׃

⁸And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled before him.

⁸La guerre continuait. David marcha contre les Philistins, et se battit avec eux; il leur fit éprouver une grande défaite, et ils s'enfuirent devant lui.

⁸ותוסף המלחמה להיות ויצא דוד וילחם בפלשתים ויך בהם מכה גדולה וינסו מפניו׃

⁹And an evil spirit from Jehovah was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing with his hand.

⁹Alors le mauvais esprit de l'Eternel fut sur Saül, qui était assis dans sa maison, sa lance à la main. David jouait,

⁹ותהי רוח יהוה רעה אל שאול והוא בביתו יושב וחניתו בידו ודוד מנגן ביד׃

¹⁰And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the spear; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the spear into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

¹⁰et Saül voulut le frapper avec sa lance contre la paroi. Mais David se détourna de lui, et Saül frappa de sa lance la paroi. David prit la fuite et s'échappa pendant la nuit.

¹⁰ויבקש שאול להכות בחנית בדוד ובקיר ויפטר מפני שאול ויך את החנית בקיר ודוד נס וימלט בלילה הוא׃

¹¹And Saul sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal, David's wife, told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to-night, to-morrow thou wilt be slain.

¹¹Saül envoya des gens vers la maison de David, pour le garder et le faire mourir au matin. Mais Mical, femme de David, l'en informa et lui dit: Si tu ne te sauves pas cette nuit, demain tu es mort.

¹¹וישלח שאול מלאכים אל בית דוד לשמרו ולהמיתו בבקר ותגד לדוד מיכל אשתו לאמר אם אינך ממלט את נפשך הלילה מחר אתה מומת׃

¹²So Michal let David down through the window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

¹²Elle le fit descendre par la fenêtre, et David s'en alla et s'enfuit. C'est ainsi qu'il échappa.

¹²ותרד מיכל את דוד בעד החלון וילך ויברח וימלט׃

¹³And Michal took the teraphim, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' [hair] at the head thereof, and covered it with the clothes.

¹³Ensuite Mical prit le théraphim, qu'elle plaça dans le lit; elle mit une peau de chèvre à son chevet, et elle l'enveloppa d'une couverture.

¹³ותקח מיכל את התרפים ותשם אל המטה ואת כביר העזים שמה מראשתיו ותכס בבגד׃

¹⁴And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.

¹⁴Lorsque Saül envoya des gens pour prendre David, elle dit: Il est malade.

¹⁴וישלח שאול מלאכים לקחת את דוד ותאמר חלה הוא׃

¹⁵And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

¹⁵Saül les renvoya pour qu'ils le vissent, et il dit: Apportez-le-moi dans son lit, afin que je le fasse mourir.

¹⁵וישלח שאול את המלאכים לראות את דוד לאמר העלו אתו במטה אלי להמתו׃

¹⁶And when the messengers came in, behold, the teraphim was in the bed, with the pillow of goats' [hair] at the head thereof.

¹⁶Ces gens revinrent, et voici, le théraphim était dans le lit, et une peau de chèvre à son chevet.

¹⁶ויבאו המלאכים והנה התרפים אל המטה וכביר העזים מראשתיו׃

¹⁷And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me thus, and let mine enemy go, so that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

¹⁷Saül dit à Mical: Pourquoi m'as-tu trompé de la sorte, et as-tu laissé partir mon ennemi qui s'est échappé? Mical répondit à Saül: Il m'a dit: Laisse moi aller, ou je te tue!

¹⁷ויאמר שאול אל מיכל למה ככה רמיתני ותשלחי את איבי וימלט ותאמר מיכל אל שאול הוא אמר אלי שלחני למה אמיתך׃

¹⁸Now David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

¹⁸C'est ainsi que David prit la fuite et qu'il échappa. Il se rendit auprès de Samuel à Rama, et lui raconta tout ce que Saül lui avait fait. Puis il alla avec Samuel demeurer à Najoth.

¹⁸ודוד ברח וימלט ויבא אל שמואל הרמתה ויגד לו את כל אשר עשה לו שאול וילך הוא ושמואל וישבו בנוית׃

¹⁹And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

¹⁹On le rapporta à Saül, en disant: Voici, David est à Najoth, près de Rama.

¹⁹ויגד לשאול לאמר הנה דוד בנוית ברמה׃

²⁰And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

²⁰Saül envoya des gens pour prendre David. Ils virent une assemblée de prophètes qui prophétisaient, ayant Samuel à leur tête. L'esprit de Dieu saisit les envoyés de Saül, et ils se mirent aussi à prophétiser eux-mêmes.

²⁰וישלח שאול מלאכים לקחת את דוד וירא את להקת הנביאים נבאים ושמואל עמד נצב עליהם ותהי על מלאכי שאול רוח אלהים ויתנבאו גם המה׃

²¹And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.

²¹On en fit rapport à Saül, qui envoya d'autres gens, et eux aussi prophétisèrent. Il en envoya encore pour la troisième fois, et ils prophétisèrent également.

²¹ויגדו לשאול וישלח מלאכים אחרים ויתנבאו גם המה ויסף שאול וישלח מלאכים שלשים ויתנבאו גם המה׃

²²Then went he also to Ramah, and came to the great well that is in Secu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.

²²Alors Saül alla lui-même à Rama. Arrivé à la grande citerne qui est à Sécou, il demanda: Où sont Samuel et David? On lui répondit: Ils sont à Najoth, près de Rama.

²²וילך גם הוא הרמתה ויבא עד בור הגדול אשר בשכו וישאל ויאמר איפה שמואל ודוד ויאמר הנה בנוית ברמה׃

²³And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God came upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

²³Et il se dirigea vers Najoth, près de Rama. L'esprit de Dieu fut aussi sur lui; et Saül continua son chemin en prophétisant, jusqu'à son arrivée à Najoth, près de Rama.

²³וילך שם אל נוית ברמה ותהי עליו גם הוא רוח אלהים וילך הלוך ויתנבא עד באו בנוית ברמה׃

²⁴And he also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Samuel, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

²⁴Il ôta ses vêtements, et il prophétisa aussi devant Samuel; et il se jeta nu par terre tout ce jour-là et toute la nuit. C'est pourquoi l'on dit: Saül est-il aussi parmi les prophètes?

²⁴ויפשט גם הוא בגדיו ויתנבא גם הוא לפני שמואל ויפל ערם כל היום ההוא וכל הלילה על כן יאמרו הגם שאול בנביאם׃
