¹And the child Samuel ministered unto Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.

¹Le jeune Samuel était au service de l'Eternel devant Eli. La parole de l'Eternel était rare en ce temps-là, les visions n'étaient pas fréquentes.

¹והנער שמואל משרת את יהוה לפני עלי ודבר יהוה היה יקר בימים ההם אין חזון נפרץ׃

²And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to wax dim, so that he could not see),

²En ce même temps, Eli, qui commençait à avoir les yeux troubles et ne pouvait plus voir, était couché à sa place,

²ויהי ביום ההוא ועלי שכב במקמו ועינו החלו כהות לא יוכל לראות׃

³and the lamp of God was not yet gone out, and Samuel was laid down [to sleep], in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God was;

³la lampe de Dieu n'était pas encore éteinte, et Samuel était couché dans le temple de l'Eternel, où était l'arche de Dieu.

³ונר אלהים טרם יכבה ושמואל שכב בהיכל יהוה אשר שם ארון אלהים׃

⁴that Jehovah called Samuel; and he said, Here am I.

⁴Alors l'Eternel appela Samuel. Il répondit: Me voici!

⁴ויקרא יהוה אל שמואל ויאמר הנני׃

⁵And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

⁵Et il courut vers Eli, et dit: Me voici, car tu m'as appelé. Eli répondit: Je n'ai point appelé; retourne te coucher. Et il alla se coucher.

⁵וירץ אל עלי ויאמר הנני כי קראת לי ויאמר לא קראתי שוב שכב וילך וישכב׃

⁶And Jehovah called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

⁶L'Eternel appela de nouveau Samuel. Et Samuel se leva, alla vers Eli, et dit: Me voici, car tu m'as appelé. Eli répondit: Je n'ai point appelé, mon fils, retourne te coucher.

⁶ויסף יהוה קרא עוד שמואל ויקם שמואל וילך אל עלי ויאמר הנני כי קראת לי ויאמר לא קראתי בני שוב שכב׃

⁷Now Samuel did not yet know Jehovah, neither was the word of Jehovah yet revealed unto him.

⁷Samuel ne connaissait pas encore l'Eternel, et la parole de l'Eternel ne lui avait pas encore été révélée.

⁷ושמואל טרם ידע את יהוה וטרם יגלה אליו דבר יהוה׃

⁸And Jehovah called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And Eli perceived that Jehovah had called the child.

⁸L'Eternel appela de nouveau Samuel, pour la troisième fois. Et Samuel se leva, alla vers Eli, et dit: Me voici, car tu m'as appelé. Eli comprit que c'était l'Eternel qui appelait l'enfant,

⁸ויסף יהוה קרא שמואל בשלשית ויקם וילך אל עלי ויאמר הנני כי קראת לי ויבן עלי כי יהוה קרא לנער׃

⁹Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Jehovah; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

⁹et il dit à Samuel: Va, couche-toi; et si l'on t'appelle, tu diras: Parle, Eternel, car ton serviteur écoute. Et Samuel alla se coucher à sa place.

⁹ויאמר עלי לשמואל לך שכב והיה אם יקרא אליך ואמרת דבר יהוה כי שמע עבדך וילך שמואל וישכב במקומו׃

¹⁰And Jehovah came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel said, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

¹⁰L'Eternel vint et se présenta, et il appela comme les autres fois: Samuel, Samuel! Et Samuel répondit: Parle, car ton serviteur écoute.

¹⁰ויבא יהוה ויתיצב ויקרא כפעם בפעם שמואל שמואל ויאמר שמואל דבר כי שמע עבדך׃

¹¹And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

¹¹Alors l'Eternel dit à Samuel: Voici, je vais faire en Israël une chose qui étourdira les oreilles de quiconque l'entendra.

¹¹ויאמר יהוה אל שמואל הנה אנכי עשה דבר בישראל אשר כל שמעו תצלינה שתי אזניו׃

¹²In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even unto the end.

¹²En ce jour j'accomplirai sur Eli tout ce que j'ai prononcé contre sa maison; je commencerai et j'achèverai.

¹²ביום ההוא אקים אל עלי את כל אשר דברתי אל ביתו החל וכלה׃

¹³For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons did bring a curse upon themselves, and he restrained them not.

¹³Je lui ai déclaré que je veux punir sa maison à perpétuité, à cause du crime dont il a connaissance, et par lequel ses fils se sont rendus méprisables, sans qu'il les ait réprimés.

¹³והגדתי לו כי שפט אני את ביתו עד עולם בעון אשר ידע כי מקללים להם בניו ולא כהה בם׃

¹⁴And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

¹⁴C'est pourquoi je jure à la maison d'Eli que jamais le crime de la maison d'Eli ne sera expié, ni par des sacrifices ni par des offrandes.

¹⁴ולכן נשבעתי לבית עלי אם יתכפר עון בית עלי בזבח ובמנחה עד עולם׃

¹⁵And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.

¹⁵Samuel resta couché jusqu'au matin, puis il ouvrit les portes de la maison de l'Eternel. Samuel craignait de raconter la vision à Eli.

¹⁵וישכב שמואל עד הבקר ויפתח את דלתות בית יהוה ושמואל ירא מהגיד את המראה אל עלי׃

¹⁶Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he said, Here am I.

¹⁶Mais Eli appela Samuel, et dit: Samuel, mon fils! Il répondit: Me voici!

¹⁶ויקרא עלי את שמואל ויאמר שמואל בני ויאמר הנני׃

¹⁷And he said, What is the thing that [Jehovah] hath spoken unto thee? I pray thee, hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide anything from me of all the things that he spake unto thee.

¹⁷Et Eli dit: Quelle est la parole que t'a adressée l'Eternel? Ne me cache rien. Que Dieu te traite dans toute sa rigueur, si tu me caches quelque chose de tout ce qu'il t'a dit!

¹⁷ויאמר מה הדבר אשר דבר אליך אל נא תכחד ממני כה יעשה לך אלהים וכה יוסיף אם תכחד ממני דבר מכל הדבר אשר דבר אליך׃

¹⁸And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is Jehovah: let him do what seemeth him good.

¹⁸Samuel lui raconta tout, sans lui rien cacher. Et Eli dit: C'est l'Eternel, qu'il fasse ce qui lui semblera bon!

¹⁸ויגד לו שמואל את כל הדברים ולא כחד ממנו ויאמר יהוה הוא הטוב בעינו יעשה׃

¹⁹And Samuel grew, and Jehovah was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

¹⁹Samuel grandissait. L'Eternel était avec lui, et il ne laissa tomber à terre aucune de ses paroles.

¹⁹ויגדל שמואל ויהוה היה עמו ולא הפיל מכל דבריו ארצה׃

²⁰And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Jehovah.

²⁰Tout Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beer-Schéba, reconnut que Samuel était établi prophète de l'Eternel.

²⁰וידע כל ישראל מדן ועד באר שבע כי נאמן שמואל לנביא ליהוה׃

²¹And Jehovah appeared again in Shiloh; for Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of Jehovah.

²¹L'Eternel continuait à apparaître dans Silo; car l'Eternel se révélait à Samuel, dans Silo, par la parole de l'Eternel.

²¹ויסף יהוה להראה בשלה כי נגלה יהוה אל שמואל בשלו בדבר יהוה׃
