¹But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you.

¹Pour ce qui est des temps et des moments, vous n'avez pas besoin, frères, qu'on vous en écrive.

¹ועל דבר העתים והזמנים אין צרך לכתב אליכם אחי׃

²For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

²Car vous savez bien vous-mêmes que le jour du Seigneur viendra comme un voleur dans la nuit.

²הלא אף אתם ידעתם היטב כי יום יהוה כגנב בלילה כן בוא יבוא׃

³When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

³Quand les hommes diront: Paix et sûreté! alors une ruine soudaine les surprendra, comme les douleurs de l'enfantement surprennent la femme enceinte, et ils n'échapperont point.

³כי בעת אמרם שלום ושלוה יבא עליהם השבר פתאם כחבלים על ההרה ולא יוכלו להמלט׃

⁴But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief:

⁴Mais vous, frères, vous n'êtes pas dans les ténèbres, pour que ce jour vous surprenne comme un voleur;

⁴אבל אתם אחי אינכם בחשך שישיג אתכם היום כגנב׃

⁵for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness;

⁵vous êtes tous des enfants de la lumière et des enfants du jour. Nous ne sommes point de la nuit ni des ténèbres.

⁵אתם כלכם בני האור ובני היום לא בני הלילה אנחנו ולא בני החשך׃

⁶so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober.

⁶Ne dormons donc point comme les autres, mais veillons et soyons sobres.

⁶לכן אל נא נרדם כמו האחרים כי אם נשקד וננזר׃

⁷For they that sleep sleep in the night: and they that are drunken are drunken in the night.

⁷Car ceux qui dorment dorment la nuit, et ceux qui s'enivrent s'enivrent la nuit.

⁷כי הנרדמים הם בלילה נרדמים והמשתכרים משתכרים בלילה׃

⁸But let us, since we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

⁸Mais nous qui sommes du jour, soyons sobres, ayant revêtu la cuirasse de la foi et de la charité, et ayant pour casque l'espérance du salut.

⁸ואנחנו בני היום ננזרה נא ונלבש את שריון האמונה והאהבה וככובע את תקות הישועה׃

⁹For God appointed us not into wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁹Car Dieu ne nous a pas destinés à la colère, mais à l'acquisition du salut par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ,

⁹יען אשר לא יעדנו האלהים לחרון כי אם לנחל את הישועה על ידי אדנינו ישוע המשיח׃

¹⁰who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

¹⁰qui est mort pour nous, afin que, soit que nous veillions, soit que nous dormions, nous vivions ensemble avec lui.

¹⁰אשר מת בעדנו למען אם נשקד ואם נישן חיה נחיה עמו יחד׃

¹¹Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.

¹¹C'est pourquoi exhortez-vous réciproquement, et édifiez-vous les uns les autres, comme en réalité vous le faites.

¹¹על כן נחמו זה את זה ובנו איש את אחיו כאשר גם עשיתם׃

¹²But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

¹²Nous vous prions, frères, d'avoir de la considération pour ceux qui travaillent parmi vous, qui vous dirigent dans le Seigneur, et qui vous exhortent.

¹²והננו מבקשים מכם אחי להכיר את העמלים בכם ואשר הם נצבים עליכם באדון ומוכיחים אתכם׃

¹³and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work's sake. Be at peace among yourselves.

¹³Ayez pour eux beaucoup d'affection, à cause de leur oeuvre. Soyez en paix entre vous.

¹³אשר תנהגו בם כבוד עד למעלה באהבה למען פעלתם ויהי שלום ביניכם׃

¹⁴And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.

¹⁴Nous vous en prions aussi, frères, avertissez ceux qui vivent dans le désordre, consolez ceux qui sont abattus, supportez les faibles, usez de patience envers tous.

¹⁴והננו מזהירים אתכם אחי הוכיחו את הסוררים אמצו את רכי הלבב תמכו את החלשים והאריכו רוח אל כל אדם׃

¹⁵See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all.

¹⁵Prenez garde que personne ne rende à autrui le mal pour le mal; mais poursuivez toujours le bien, soit entre vous, soit envers tous.

¹⁵וראו פן ישלם איש לאיש רעה תחת רעה כי אם רדפו בכל עת את הטוב הן לאיש איש מכם הן לכל אדם׃

¹⁶Rejoice always;

¹⁶Soyez toujours joyeux.

¹⁶היו שמחים בכל עת׃

¹⁷pray without ceasing;

¹⁷Priez sans cesse.

¹⁷התמידו בתפלה׃

¹⁸in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward.

¹⁸Rendez grâces en toutes choses, car c'est à votre égard la volonté de Dieu en Jésus-Christ.

¹⁸הודו על הכל כי זה רצון האלהים אליכם במשיח ישוע׃

¹⁹Quench not the Spirit;

¹⁹N'éteignez pas l'Esprit.

¹⁹את הרוח לא תכבו׃

²⁰despise not prophesyings;

²⁰Ne méprisez pas les prophéties.

²⁰את הנבואות לא תמאסו׃

²¹prove all things; hold fast that which is good;

²¹Mais examinez toutes choses; retenez ce qui est bon;

²¹בחנו כל דבר ובטוב אחזו׃

²²abstain from every form of evil.

²²abstenez-vous de toute espèce de mal.

²²התרחקו מכל הדומה לרע׃

²³And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²³Que le Dieu de paix vous sanctifie lui-même tout entiers, et que tout votre être, l'esprit, l'âme et le corps, soit conservé irrépréhensible, lors de l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ!

²³והוא אלהי השלום יקדש אתכם קדשה שלמה וכל רוחכם ונפשכם וגופכם ישמר תמים בבוא אדנינו ישוע המשיח׃

²⁴Faithful is he that calleth you, who will also do it.

²⁴Celui qui vous a appelés est fidèle, et c'est lui qui le fera.

²⁴נאמן הקורא אתכם אשר גם יעשה׃

²⁵Brethren, pray for us.

²⁵Frères, priez pour nous.

²⁵אחי התפללו בעדנו׃

²⁶Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.

²⁶Saluez tous les frères par un saint baiser.

²⁶שאלו לשלום כל האחים בנשיקה הקדשה׃

²⁷I adjure you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the brethren.

²⁷Je vous en conjure par le Seigneur, que cette lettre soit lue à tous les frères.

²⁷הנני משביעכם באדון שתקרא האגרת הזאת באזני כל האחים הקדשים׃

²⁸The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

²⁸Que la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec vous!

²⁸חסד ישוע המשיח אדנינו עמכם אמן׃
