¹Let as many as are servants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine be not blasphemed.

¹Que tous ceux qui sont sous le joug de la servitude regardent leurs maîtres comme dignes de tout honneur, afin que le nom de Dieu et la doctrine ne soient pas blasphémés.

¹כל אשר הם תחת על העבדות יחשבו את אדניהם ראוים לכל כבוד למען לא יחלל שם האלהים והלקח׃

²And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but let them serve them the rather, because they that partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. These things teach and exhort.

²Et que ceux qui ont des fidèles pour maîtres ne les méprisent pas, sous prétexte qu'ils sont frères; mais qu'ils les servent d'autant mieux que ce sont des fidèles et des bien-aimés qui s'attachent à leur faire du bien. Enseigne ces choses et recommande-les.

²ואלה אשר אדניהם בני אמונה אל יקלו אתם על היותם אחים כי אם יעבדום ביותר בעבור כי מאמינים ואהובים הם המשתדלים לגמל חסד את זאת תלמד ותצוה׃

³If any man teacheth a different doctrine, and consenteth not to sound words, [even] the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

³Si quelqu'un enseigne de fausses doctrines, et ne s'attache pas aux saines paroles de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ et à la doctrine qui est selon la piété,

³האיש אשר יורה תורה אחרת ולא יעמד בדברים הבריאים של אדנינו ישוע המשיח ובלקח החסידות׃

⁴he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

⁴il est enflé d'orgueil, il ne sait rien, et il a la maladie des questions oiseuses et des disputes de mots, d'où naissent l'envie, les querelles, les calomnies, les mauvais soupçons,

⁴נפשו עפלה ולא ידע מאומה כי אם חלה הוא בשאלות ומחלקות מלים המביאים לידי קנאה ומריבה וגדופים וחשד רע׃

⁵wranglings of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.

⁵les vaines discussions d'hommes corrompus d'entendement, privés de la vérité, et croyant que la piété est une source de gain.

⁵וכוחי הבל של אנשים נשחתי דעת ומחסרי אמת השמים את החסידות לדבר בצע סור מאנשים כאלה׃

⁶But godliness with contentment is great gain:

⁶C'est, en effet, une grande source de gain que la piété avec le contentement;

⁶ואף אמנם יתרון גדול היא החסידות עם לב שמח בגורלו׃

⁷for we brought nothing into the world, for neither can we carry anything out;

⁷car nous n'avons rien apporté dans le monde, et il est évident que nous n'en pouvons rien emporter;

⁷כי לא הבאנו מאומה לעולם בידוע שגם לא נוכל להוציא ממנו מאומה׃

⁸but having food and covering we shall be therewith content.

⁸si donc nous avons la nourriture et le vêtement, cela nous suffira.

⁸ועל כן אם יש לנו מזון וכסות נסתפקה בהם׃

⁹But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.

⁹Mais ceux qui veulent s'enrichir tombent dans la tentation, dans le piège, et dans beaucoup de désirs insensés et pernicieux qui plongent les hommes dans la ruine et la perdition.

⁹אבל המבקשים להעשיר יפלו בנסיון ובמוקשים וברב תאות סבלות ומשחיתות המשקיעות את האדם בשחת ובאבדון׃

¹⁰For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁰Car l'amour de l'argent est une racine de tous les maux; et quelques-uns, en étant possédés, se sont égarés loin de la foi, et se sont jetés eux-mêmes dans bien des tourments.

¹⁰כי שרש כל הרעות אהבת הכסף ויש אשר ערגו לו ויסורו מן האמונה ויעציבו את נפשם במכאבים רבים׃

¹¹But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

¹¹Pour toi, homme de Dieu, fuis ces choses, et recherche la justice, la piété, la foi, la charité, la patience, la douceur.

¹¹ואתה איש האלהים ברח לך מאלה ורדף צדקה וחסידות ואמונה ואהבה וסבלנות וענוה׃

¹²Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, whereunto thou wast called, and didst confess the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.

¹²Combats le bon combat de la foi, saisis la vie éternelle, à laquelle tu as été appelé, et pour laquelle tu as fait une belle confession en présence d'un grand nombre de témoins.

¹²הלחם המלחמה הטובה של האמונה ואחז חיי עולמים אשר נקראת להם והודית הודאה יפה בפני עדים רבים׃

¹³I charge thee in the sight of God, who giveth life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed the good confession;

¹³Je te recommande, devant Dieu qui donne la vie à toutes choses, et devant Jésus-Christ, qui fit une belle confession devant Ponce Pilate,

¹³הנני מצוך נגד האלהים המחיה את כל ונגד המשיח ישוע אשר העיד ההודאה היפה לפני פנטיוס פילטוס׃

¹⁴that thou keep the commandment, without spot, without reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹⁴de garder le commandement, et de vivre sans tache, sans reproche, jusqu'à l'apparition de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ,

¹⁴כי שמור תשמר את המצוה באין שמץ ודפי עד הופעת המשיח ישוע אדנינו׃

¹⁵which in its own times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

¹⁵que manifestera en son temps le bienheureux et seul souverain, le roi des rois, et le Seigneur des seigneurs,

¹⁵אשר יראנה בעתה המברך והשליט לבדו מלך המלכים ואדני האדנים׃

¹⁶who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom [be] honor and power eternal. Amen.

¹⁶qui seul possède l'immortalité, qui habite une lumière inaccessible, que nul homme n'a vu ni ne peut voir, à qui appartiennent l'honneur et la puissance éternelle. Amen!

¹⁶אשר הוא לבדו חי וקים והוא הדר באור נשגב ואיש לא ראהו ולא יוכל לראונו ולו הכבוד וגבורת עולמים אמן׃

¹⁷Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

¹⁷Recommande aux riches du présent siècle de ne pas être orgueilleux, et de ne pas mettre leur espérance dans des richesses incertaines, mais de la mettre en Dieu, qui nous donne avec abondance toutes choses pour que nous en jouissions.

¹⁷את עשירי העולם הזה תצוה שלא ירום לבבם גם לא יבטחו בעשר הבוגד כי אם באלהים חיים המספיק לנו די והותר לשבע׃

¹⁸that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

¹⁸Recommande-leur de faire du bien, d'être riches en bonnes oeuvres, d'avoir de la libéralité, de la générosité,

¹⁸ויגמלו טוב ויעשירו במעשים טובים לתת מהונם ולעזר לזולתם׃

¹⁹laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on the life which is [life] indeed.

¹⁹et de s'amasser ainsi pour l'avenir un trésor placé sur un fondement solide, afin de saisir la vie véritable.

¹⁹ויאצרו להם אוצר ליסוד טוב לעתיד שישיגו את חיי העולם׃

²⁰O Timothy, guard that which is committed unto [thee], turning away from the profane babblings and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called;

²⁰O Timothée, garde le dépôt, en évitant les discours vains et profanes, et les disputes de la fausse science

²⁰אתה טימותיוס שמר את הפקדון והתרחק מדברי הבל הפסולים ומן וכוחי המדע הנקרא כן בשקר׃

²¹which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you.

²¹dont font profession quelques-uns, qui se sont ainsi détournés de la foi. Que la grâce soit avec vous!
