¹Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, according to the promise of the life which is in Christ Jesus,

¹פולוס שליח ישוע המשיח ברצון האלהים לפי הבטחת החיים אשר בישוע המשיח׃

²to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

²Timothée, mon enfant bien-aimé: que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix te soient données de la part de Dieu le Père et de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur!

²אל טימותיוס בנו החביב חסד ורחמים ושלום מאת אלהים אבינו ומאת המשיח ישוע אדנינו׃

³I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers in a pure conscience, how unceasing is my remembrance of thee in my supplications, night and day

³Je rends grâces à Dieu, que mes ancêtres ont servi, et que je sers avec une conscience pure, de ce que nuit et jour je me souviens continuellement de toi dans mes prières,

³מודה אני לאלהים אשר אני עבד אותו מימי אבותי ברוח טהורה כי תמיד אזכרך בתפלותי לילה ויומם׃

⁴longing to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

⁴me rappelant tes larmes, et désirant te voir afin d'être rempli de joie,

⁴ונכספתי לראותך בזכרי את דמעותיך למען אמלא שמחה׃

⁵having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also.

⁵gardant le souvenir de la foi sincère qui est en toi, qui habita d'abord dans ton aïeule Loïs et dans ta mère Eunice, et qui, j'en suis persuadé, habite aussi en toi.

⁵כי באתי לזכר את אמונתך בלתי צבועה ששכנה כבר בלואיס זקנתך ובאבניקה אמך ומבטח אני כי תשכן גם בך׃

⁶For which cause I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee through the laying on of my hands.

⁶C'est pourquoi je t'exhorte à ranimer le don de Dieu que tu as reçu par l'imposition de mes mains.

⁶על כן אזכירך שתעורר את מתנת האלהים הנתונה לך בסמיכת ידי׃

⁷For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.

⁷Car ce n'est pas un esprit de timidité que Dieu nous a donné, mais un esprit de force, d'amour et de sagesse.

⁷כי האלהים לא נתן לנו רוח אימה כי אם רוח גבורה ואהבה ומוסר׃

⁸Be not ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God;

⁸N'aie donc point honte du témoignage à rendre à notre Seigneur, ni de moi son prisonnier. Mais souffre avec moi pour l'Evangile, par la puissance de Dieu

⁸לכן אל תבוש לא מעדות אדנינו ולא ממני אסירו כי אם תסבל הרעות גם אתה כמוני על הבשורה כפי כח האלהים׃

⁹who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,

⁹qui nous a sauvés, et nous a adressé une sainte vocation, non à cause de nos oeuvres, mais selon son propre dessein, et selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Jésus-Christ avant les temps éternels,

⁹אשר הוא הושיענו וקראנו בקריאה קדושה לא לפי מעשינו כי אם לפי עצתו וחסדו הנתן לנו במשיח ישוע לפני ימות עולם׃

¹⁰but hath now been manifested by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

¹⁰et qui a été manifestée maintenant par l'apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ, qui a détruit la mort et a mis en évidence la vie et l'immortalité par l'Evangile.

¹⁰ועתה נגלה בהראות מושיענו ישוע המשיח אשר בטל את המות ויוצא לאור על ידי הבשורה את החיים ואת אשר איננו עובר׃

¹¹whereunto I was appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher.

¹¹C'est pour cet Evangile que j'ai été établi prédicateur et apôtre, chargé d'instruire les païens.

¹¹אשר הפקדתי להיות לה כרוז ושליח ומורה הגוים׃

¹²For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed unto him against that day.

¹²Et c'est à cause de cela que je souffre ces choses; mais j'en ai point honte, car je sais en qui j'ai cru, et je suis persuadé qu'il a la puissance de garder mon dépôt jusqu'à ce jour-là.

¹²ובעבור זאת אסבל כאלה ולא אבוש כי יודע אנכי במי האמנתי ומבטח אנכי כי היכלת לו לשמר את פקדוני עד היום ההוא׃

¹³Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

¹³Retiens dans la foi et dans la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ le modèle des saines paroles que tu as reçues de moi.

¹³החזק בתכונת הדברים הבריאים אשר שמעת ממני באמונה ובאהבה אשר במשיח ישוע׃

¹⁴That good thing which was committed unto [thee] guard through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us.

¹⁴Garde le bon dépôt, par le Saint-Esprit qui habite en nous.

¹⁴שמר את הפקדון הטוב בעזרת רוח הקדש השכן בנו׃

¹⁵This thou knowest, that all that are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.

¹⁵Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m'ont abandonné, entre autres Phygelle et Hermogène.

¹⁵זאת אתה יודע כי פנו ממני כל אשר באסיא ובתוכם פוגלוס והרמוגניס׃

¹⁶The Lord grant mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;

¹⁶Que le Seigneur répande sa miséricorde sur la maison d'Onésiphore, car il m'a souvent consolé, et il n'a pas eu honte de mes chaînes;

¹⁶יתן האדון רחמים לבית אניסיפורוס כי פעמים רבות השיב את נפשי ולא בוש ממוסרי׃

¹⁷but, when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me

¹⁷au contraire, lorsqu'il est venu à Rome, il m'a cherché avec beaucoup d'empressement, et il m'a trouvé.

¹⁷כי אם בהיותו ברומי יגע לבקשני עד כי מצאני׃

¹⁸(the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

¹⁸Que le Seigneur lui donne d'obtenir miséricorde auprès du Seigneur en ce jour-là. Tu sais mieux que personne combien de services il m'a rendus à Ephèse.

¹⁸יתן לו האדון למצא רחמים מלפני יהוה ביום ההוא ורב שרותו אשר שרת באפסוס אתה ידעת היטב׃
