¹Thou therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

¹Toi donc, mon enfant, fortifie-toi dans la grâce qui est en Jésus-Christ.

¹לכן בני התחזק בחסד אשר במשיח ישוע׃

²And the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

²Et ce que tu as entendu de moi en présence de beaucoup de témoins, confie-le à des hommes fidèles, qui soient capables de l'enseigner aussi à d'autres.

²ואת אשר שמעת ממני בפני עדים רבים תפקידנו בידי אנשים נאמנים אשר הם כשרים ללמד גם את האחרים׃

³Suffer hardship with [me], as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

³Souffre avec moi, comme un bon soldat de Jésus-Christ.

³וסבל הרעות כאיש חיל בצבא מלחמת ישוע המשיח׃

⁴No soldier on service entangleth himself in the affairs of [this] life; that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

⁴Il n'est pas de soldat qui s'embarrasse des affaires de la vie, s'il veut plaire à celui qui l'a enrôlé;

⁴איש יצא לצבא לא יתערב בעשקי החיים למען יהיה רצוי לשר הצבא׃

⁵And if also a man contend in the games, he is not crowded, except he have contended lawfully.

⁵et l'athlète n'est pas couronné, s'il n'a combattu suivant les règles.

⁵וגם אם נאבק איש לא יכתר אם לא יאבק כמשפט׃

⁶The husbandmen that laboreth must be the first to partake of the fruits.

⁶Il faut que le laboureur travaille avant de recueillir les fruits.

⁶האכר העבד הוא יאכל ראשונה מפרי האדמה׃

⁷Consider what I say; for the Lord shall give thee understanding in all things.

⁷Comprends ce que je dis, car le Seigneur te donnera de l'intelligence en toutes choses.

⁷בין באשר אני אמר כי האדון יתן לך חכמה בכל דבר׃

⁸Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel:

⁸Souviens-toi de Jésus-Christ, issu de la postérité de David, ressuscité des morts, selon mon Evangile,

⁸זכור תזכר את ישוע המשיח הנעור מן המתים אשר הוא מזרע דוד כפי בשורתי׃

⁹wherein I suffer hardship unto bonds, as a malefactor; but the word of God is not bound.

⁹pour lequel je souffre jusqu'à être lié comme un malfaiteur. Mais la parole de Dieu n'est pas liée.

⁹אשר בעבורה אני נשא רעות עד למוסרות כעשה עול אבל דבר האלהים איננו נאסר׃

¹⁰Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

¹⁰C'est pourquoi je supporte tout à cause des élus, afin qu'eux aussi obtiennent le salut qui est en Jésus-Christ, avec la gloire éternelle.

¹⁰ועל כן אסבל את כל למען הבחירים למען ישיגו גם המה את התשועה במשיח ישוע עם כבוד עולמים׃

¹¹Faithful is the saying: For if we died with him, we shall also live with him:

¹¹Cette parole est certaine: Si nous sommes morts avec lui, nous vivrons aussi avec lui;

¹¹נאמן הדבר הזה כי אם מתנו אתו גם אתו נחיה׃

¹²if we endure, we shall also reign with him: if we shall deny him, he also will deny us:

¹²si nous persévérons, nous régnerons aussi avec lui; si nous le renions, lui aussi nous reniera;

¹²אם נסבל גם נמלך אתו ואם ננכר גם הוא ינכר אתנו׃

¹³if we are faithless, he abideth faithful; for he cannot deny himself.

¹³si nous sommes infidèles, il demeure fidèle, car il ne peut se renier lui-même.

¹³אם לא נאמין הנה הוא קים באמונתו כי לכחש בעצמו לא יוכל׃

¹⁴Of these things put them in remembrance, charging [them] in the sight of the Lord, that they strive not about words, to no profit, to the subverting of them that hear.

¹⁴Rappelle ces choses, en conjurant devant Dieu qu'on évite les disputes de mots, qui ne servent qu'à la ruine de ceux qui écoutent.

¹⁴זאת הזכר להם והעד לפני האדון שלא לעשק במחלקת מלים אשר לא להועיל רק לעות דעת השמעים׃

¹⁵Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth.

¹⁵Efforce-toi de te présenter devant Dieu comme un homme éprouvé, un ouvrier qui n'a point à rougir, qui dispense droitement la parole de la vérité.

¹⁵היה שקוד להתיצב נאמן לפני אלהים וכפעל אשר לא יבוש המחלק על נכון דבר האמת׃

¹⁶But shun profane babblings: for they will proceed further in ungodliness,

¹⁶Evite les discours vains et profanes; car ceux qui les tiennent avanceront toujours plus dans l'impiété,

¹⁶אבל תרחק מדברי הבל הפסולים כי יוסיפו הרבות רשע׃

¹⁷and their word will eat as doth a gangrene: or whom is Hymenaeus an Philetus;

¹⁷et leur parole rongera comme la gangrène. De ce nombre sont Hyménée et Philète,

¹⁷ושיחתם כרקב תאכל סביב אשר מהם הומניוס ופיליטוס׃

¹⁸men who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already, and overthrow the faith of some.

¹⁸qui se sont détournés de la vérité, disant que la résurrection est déjà arrivée, et qui renversent la foi de quelques uns.

¹⁸אשר תעו מן האמת באמרם כי תחית המתים כבר היתה ויבלבלו אמונת קצת אנשים׃

¹⁹Howbeit the firm foundation of God standeth, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his: and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.

¹⁹Néanmoins, le solide fondement de Dieu reste debout, avec ces paroles qui lui servent de sceau: Le Seigneur connaît ceux qui lui appartiennent; et: Quiconque prononce le nom du Seigneur, qu'il s'éloigne de l'iniquité.

¹⁹אך איתן הוא יסוד האלהים וזה חותמו ידע יהוה את אשר לו ועוד יסור מעול כל הקורא את שם המשיח׃

²⁰Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some unto honor, and some unto dishonor.

²⁰Dans une grande maison, il n'y a pas seulement des vases d'or et d'argent, mais il y en a aussi de bois et de terre; les uns sont des vases d'honneur, et les autres sont d'un usage vil.

²⁰כי בבית גדול לא כלי זהב וכסף בלבד אלא גם של עץ ושל חרש ומהם לכבוד ומהם לבזיון׃

²¹If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, meet for the master's use, prepared unto every good work.

²¹Si donc quelqu'un se conserve pur, en s'abstenant de ces choses, il sera un vase d'honneur, sanctifié, utile à son maître, propre à toute bonne oeuvre.

²¹והנה אם טהר איש את נפשו מאלה יהיה כלי לכבוד מקדש ומועיל לבעל הבית מוכן לכל מעשה טוב׃

²²after righteousness, faith, love, pace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

²²Fuis les passions de la jeunesse, et recherche la justice, la foi, la charité, la paix, avec ceux qui invoquent le Seigneur d'un coeur pur.

²²ברח לך מתאות הנעורים ורדף צדק ואמונה ואהבה ושלום עם כל הקראים אל יהוה בלב טהור׃

²³But foolish and ignorant questionings refuse, knowing that they gender strifes.

²³Repousse les discussions folles et inutiles, sachant qu'elles font naître des querelles.

²³ותרחק מן השאלות התפלות באין מוסר באשר תדע כי אך קטטה מולידות הנה׃

²⁴And the Lord's servant must not strive, but be gentle towards all, apt to teach, forbearing,

²⁴Or, il ne faut pas qu'un serviteur du Seigneur ait des querelles; il doit, au contraire, avoir de la condescendance pour tous, être propre à enseigner, doué de patience;

²⁴ועבד האדון לא יתקוטט אלא יהי נוח לכל ומבין ללמד וסבלן׃

²⁵in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,

²⁵il doit redresser avec douceur les adversaires, dans l'espérance que Dieu leur donnera la repentance pour arriver à la connaissance de la vérité,

²⁵ומיסר בנמיכות רוח את המתנגדים אולי יתן האלהים בלבבם לשוב להכרת האמת׃

²⁶and they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him unto his will.

²⁶et que, revenus à leur bon sens, ils se dégageront des pièges du diable, qui s'est emparé d'eux pour les soumettre à sa volonté.

²⁶ויעירו ממוקשי השטן אשר צדם בהם לרצונו׃
