¹And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and Jehovah his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.

¹Salomon, fils de David, s'affermit dans son règne; l'Eternel, son Dieu, fut avec lui, et l'éleva à un haut degré.

¹ויתחזק שלמה בן דויד על מלכותו ויהוה אלהיו עמו ויגדלהו למעלה׃

²And Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every prince in all Israel, the heads of the fathers' [houses].

²Salomon donna des ordres à tout Israël, aux chefs de milliers et de centaines, aux juges, aux princes de tout Israël, aux chefs des maisons paternelles;

²ויאמר שלמה לכל ישראל לשרי האלפים והמאות ולשפטים ולכל נשיא לכל ישראל ראשי האבות׃

³So Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tent of meeting of God, which Moses the servant of Jehovah had made in the wilderness.

³et Salomon se rendit avec toute l'assemblée au haut lieu qui était à Gabaon. Là se trouvait la tente d'assignation de Dieu, faite dans le désert par Moïse, serviteur de l'Eternel;

³וילכו שלמה וכל הקהל עמו לבמה אשר בגבעון כי שם היה אהל מועד האלהים אשר עשה משה עבד יהוה במדבר׃

⁴But the ark of God had David brought up from Kiriath-jearim to [the place] that David had prepared for it; for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

⁴mais l'arche de Dieu avait été transportée par David de Kirjath-Jearim à la place qu'il lui avait préparée, car il avait dressé pour elle une tente à Jérusalem.

⁴אבל ארון האלהים העלה דויד מקרית יערים בהכין לו דויד כי נטה לו אהל בירושלם׃

⁵Moreover the brazen altar, that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of Jehovah: and Solomon and the assembly sought unto it.

⁵Là se trouvait aussi, devant le tabernacle de l'Eternel, l'autel d'airain qu'avait fait Betsaleel, fils d'Uri, fils de Hur. Salomon et l'assemblée cherchèrent l'Eternel.

⁵ומזבח הנחשת אשר עשה בצלאל בן אורי בן חור שם לפני משכן יהוה וידרשהו שלמה והקהל׃

⁶And Solomon went up thither to the brazen altar before Jehovah, which was at the tent of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt-offerings upon it.

⁶Et ce fut là, sur l'autel d'airain qui était devant la tente d'assignation, que Salomon offrit à l'Eternel mille holocaustes.

⁶ויעל שלמה שם על מזבח הנחשת לפני יהוה אשר לאהל מועד ויעל עליו עלות אלף׃

⁷In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.

⁷Pendant la nuit, Dieu apparut à Salomon et lui dit: Demande ce que tu veux que je te donne.

⁷בלילה ההוא נראה אלהים לשלמה ויאמר לו שאל מה אתן לך׃

⁸And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast showed great lovingkindness unto David my father, and hast made me king in his stead.

⁸Salomon répondit à Dieu: Tu as traité David, mon père, avec une grande bienveillance, et tu m'as fait régner à sa place.

⁸ויאמר שלמה לאלהים אתה עשית עם דויד אבי חסד גדול והמלכתני תחתיו׃

⁹Now, O Jehovah God, let thy promise unto David my father be established; for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.

⁹Maintenant, Eternel Dieu, que ta promesse à David, mon père, s'accomplisse, puisque tu m'as fait régner sur un peuple nombreux comme la poussière de la terre!

⁹עתה יהוה אלהים יאמן דברך עם דויד אבי כי אתה המלכתני על עם רב כעפר הארץ׃

¹⁰Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?

¹⁰Accorde-moi donc de la sagesse et de l'intelligence, afin que je sache me conduire à la tête de ce peuple! Car qui pourrait juger ton peuple, ce peuple si grand?

¹⁰עתה חכמה ומדע תן לי ואצאה לפני העם הזה ואבואה כי מי ישפט את עמך הזה הגדול׃

¹¹And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honor, nor the life of them that hate thee, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

¹¹Dieu dit à Salomon: Puisque c'est là ce qui est dans ton coeur, puisque tu ne demandes ni des richesses, ni des biens, ni de la gloire, ni la mort de tes ennemis, ni même une longue vie, et que tu demandes pour toi de la sagesse et de l'intelligence afin de juger mon peuple sur lequel je t'ai fait régner,

¹¹ויאמר אלהים לשלמה יען אשר היתה זאת עם לבבך ולא שאלת עשר נכסים וכבוד ואת נפש שנאיך וגם ימים רבים לא שאלת ותשאל לך חכמה ומדע אשר תשפוט את עמי אשר המלכתיך עליו׃

¹²wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee; neither shall there any after thee have the like.

¹²la sagesse et l'intelligence te sont accordées. Je te donnerai, en outre, des richesses, des biens et de la gloire, comme n'en a jamais eu aucun roi avant toi et comme n'en aura aucun après toi.

¹²החכמה והמדע נתון לך ועשר ונכסים וכבוד אתן לך אשר לא היה כן למלכים אשר לפניך ואחריך לא יהיה כן׃

¹³So Solomon came from the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the tent of meeting, unto Jerusalem; and he reigned over Israel.

¹³Salomon revint à Jérusalem, après avoir quitté le haut lieu qui était à Gabaon et la tente d'assignation. Et il régna sur Israël.

¹³ויבא שלמה לבמה אשר בגבעון ירושלם מלפני אהל מועד וימלך על ישראל׃

¹⁴And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

¹⁴Salomon rassembla des chars et de la cavalerie; il avait quatorze cents chars et douze mille cavaliers, qu'il plaça dans les villes où il tenait ses chars et à Jérusalem près du roi.

¹⁴ויאסף שלמה רכב ופרשים ויהי לו אלף וארבע מאות רכב ושנים עשר אלף פרשים ויניחם בערי הרכב ועם המלך בירושלם׃

¹⁵And the king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycomore-trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.

¹⁵Le roi rendit l'argent et l'or aussi communs à Jérusalem que les pierres, et les cèdres aussi communs que les sycomores qui croissent dans la plaine.

¹⁵ויתן המלך את הכסף ואת הזהב בירושלם כאבנים ואת הארזים נתן כשקמים אשר בשפלה לרב׃

¹⁶And the horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt; the king's merchants received them in droves, each drove at a price.

¹⁶C'était de l'Egypte que Salomon tirait ses chevaux; une caravane de marchands du roi allait les chercher par troupes à un prix fixe;

¹⁶ומוצא הסוסים אשר לשלמה ממצרים ומקוא סחרי המלך מקוא יקחו במחיר׃

¹⁷And they fetched up and brought out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred [shekels] of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Syria, did they bring them out by their means.

¹⁷on faisait monter et sortir d'Egypte un char pour six cents sicles d'argent, et un cheval pour cent cinquante sicles. Ils en amenaient de même avec eux pour tous les rois des Héthiens et pour les rois de Syrie.

¹⁷ויעלו ויוציאו ממצרים מרכבה בשש מאות כסף וסוס בחמשים ומאה וכן לכל מלכי החתים ומלכי ארם בידם יוציאו׃
