¹Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.

¹Salomon ordonna que l'on bâtît une maison au nom de l'Eternel et une maison royale pour lui.

¹ויאמר שלמה לבנות בית לשם יהוה ובית למלכותו׃

²And Solomon counted out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand men that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.

²Salomon compta soixante-dix mille hommes pour porter les fardeaux, quatre-vingt mille pour tailler les pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents pour les surveiller.

²ויספר שלמה שבעים אלף איש סבל ושמונים אלף איש חצב בהר ומנצחים עליהם שלשת אלפים ושש מאות׃

³And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him a house to dwell therein, [even so deal with me].

³Salomon envoya dire à Huram, roi de Tyr: Fais pour moi comme tu as fait pour David, mon père, à qui tu as envoyé des cèdres afin qu'il se bâtît une maison d'habitation.

³וישלח שלמה אל חורם מלך צר לאמר כאשר עשית עם דויד אבי ותשלח לו ארזים לבנות לו בית לשבת בו׃

⁴Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of Jehovah my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him incense of sweet spices, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt-offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts of Jehovah our God. This is [an ordinance] for ever to Israel.

⁴Voici, j'élève une maison au nom de l'Eternel, mon Dieu, pour la lui consacrer, pour brûler devant lui le parfum odoriférant, pour présenter continuellement les pains de proposition, et pour offrir les holocaustes du matin et du soir, des sabbats, des nouvelles lunes, et des fêtes de l'Eternel, notre Dieu, suivant une loi perpétuelle pour Israël.

⁴הנה אני בונה בית לשם יהוה אלהי להקדיש לו להקטיר לפניו קטרת סמים ומערכת תמיד ועלות לבקר ולערב לשבתות ולחדשים ולמועדי יהוה אלהינו לעולם זאת על ישראל׃

⁵And the house which I build is great; for great is our God above all gods.

⁵La maison que je vais bâtir doit être grande, car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.

⁵והבית אשר אני בונה גדול כי גדול אלהינו מכל האלהים׃

⁶But who is able to build him a house, seeing heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him a house, save only to burn incense before him?

⁶Mais qui a le pouvoir de lui bâtir une maison, puisque les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne peuvent le contenir? Et qui suis-je pour lui bâtir une maison, si ce n'est pour faire brûler des parfums devant lui?

⁶ומי יעצר כח לבנות לו בית כי השמים ושמי השמים לא יכלכלהו ומי אני אשר אבנה לו בית כי אם להקטיר לפניו׃

⁷Now therefore send me a man skilful to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that knoweth how to grave [all manner of] gravings, [to be] with the skilful men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.

⁷Envoie-moi donc un homme habile pour les ouvrages en or, en argent, en airain et en fer, en étoffes teintes en pourpre, en cramoisi et en bleu, et connaissant la sculpture, afin qu'il travaille avec les hommes habiles qui sont auprès de moi en Juda et à Jérusalem et que David, mon père, a choisis.

⁷ועתה שלח לי איש חכם לעשות בזהב ובכסף ובנחשת ובברזל ובארגון וכרמיל ותכלת וידע לפתח פתוחים עם החכמים אשר עמי ביהודה ובירושלם אשר הכין דויד אבי׃

⁸Send me also cedar-trees, fir-trees, and algum-trees, out of Lebanon; for I know that thy servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon: and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,

⁸Envoie-moi aussi du Liban des bois de cèdre, de cyprès et de sandal; car je sais que tes serviteurs s'entendent à couper les bois du Liban. Voici, mes serviteurs seront avec les tiens.

⁸ושלח לי עצי ארזים ברושים ואלגומים מהלבנון כי אני ידעתי אשר עבדיך יודעים לכרות עצי לבנון והנה עבדי עם עבדיך׃

⁹even to prepare me timber in abundance; for the house which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.

⁹Que l'on me prépare du bois en abondance, car la maison que je vais bâtir sera grande et magnifique.

⁹ולהכין לי עצים לרב כי הבית אשר אני בונה גדול והפלא׃

¹⁰And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

¹⁰Je donnerai à tes serviteurs qui couperont, qui abattront les bois, vingt mille cors de froment foulé, vingt mille cors d'orge, vingt mille baths de vin, et vingt mille baths d'huile.

¹⁰והנה לחטבים לכרתי העצים נתתי חטים מכות לעבדיך כרים עשרים אלף ושערים כרים עשרים אלף ויין בתים עשרים אלף ושמן בתים עשרים אלף׃

¹¹Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because Jehovah loveth his people, he hath made thee king over them.

¹¹Huram, roi de Tyr, répondit dans une lettre qu'il envoya à Salomon: C'est parce que l'Eternel aime son peuple qu'il t'a établi roi sur eux.

¹¹ויאמר חורם מלך צר בכתב וישלח אל שלמה באהבת יהוה את עמו נתנך עליהם מלך׃

¹²Huram said moreover, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.

¹²Huram dit encore: Béni soit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, qui a fait les cieux et la terre, de ce qu'il a donné au roi David un fils sage, prudent et intelligent, qui va bâtir une maison à l'Eternel et une maison royale pour lui!

¹²ויאמר חורם ברוך יהוה אלהי ישראל אשר עשה את השמים ואת הארץ אשר נתן לדויד המלך בן חכם יודע שכל ובינה אשר יבנה בית ליהוה ובית למלכותו׃

¹³And now I have sent a skilful man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's,

¹³Je t'envoie donc un homme habile et intelligent, Huram-Abi,

¹³ועתה שלחתי איש חכם יודע בינה לחורם אבי׃

¹⁴the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan; and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, also to grave any manner of graving, and to devise any device; that there may be [a place] appointed unto him with thy skilful men, and with the skilful men of my lord David thy father.

¹⁴fils d'une femme d'entre les filles de Dan, et d'un père Tyrien. Il est habile pour les ouvrages en or, en argent, en airain et en fer, en pierre et en bois, en étoffes teintes en pourpre et en bleu, en étoffes de byssus et de carmin, et pour toute espèce de sculptures et d'objets d'art qu'on lui donne à exécuter. Il travaillera avec tes hommes habiles et avec les hommes habiles de mon seigneur David, ton père.

¹⁴בן אשה מן בנות דן ואביו איש צרי יודע לעשות בזהב ובכסף בנחשת בברזל באבנים ובעצים בארגמן בתכלת ובבוץ ובכרמיל ולפתח כל פתוח ולחשב כל מחשבת אשר ינתן לו עם חכמיך וחכמי אדני דויד אביך׃

¹⁵Now therefore the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:

¹⁵Maintenant, que mon seigneur envoie à ses serviteurs le froment, l'orge, l'huile et le vin dont il a parlé.

¹⁵ועתה החטים והשערים השמן והיין אשר אמר אדני ישלח לעבדיו׃

¹⁶and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need; and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.

¹⁶Et nous, nous couperons des bois du Liban autant que tu en auras besoin; nous te les expédierons par mer en radeaux jusqu'à Japho, et tu les feras monter à Jérusalem.

¹⁶ואנחנו נכרת עצים מן הלבנון ככל צרכך ונביאם לך רפסדות על ים יפו ואתה תעלה אתם ירושלם׃

¹⁷And Solomon numbered all the sojourners that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found a hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.

¹⁷Salomon compta tous les étrangers qui étaient dans le pays d'Israël, et dont le dénombrement avait été fait par David, son père. On en trouva cent cinquante-trois mille six cents.

¹⁷ויספר שלמה כל האנשים הגירים אשר בארץ ישראל אחרי הספר אשר ספרם דויד אביו וימצאו מאה וחמשים אלף ושלשת אלפים ושש מאות׃

¹⁸And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people at work.

¹⁸Et il en prit soixante-dix mille pour porter les fardeaux, quatre-vingt mille pour tailler les pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents pour surveiller et faire travailler le peuple.

¹⁸ויעש מהם שבעים אלף סבל ושמנים אלף חצב בהר ושלשת אלפים ושש מאות מנצחים להעביד את העם׃
