¹And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:

¹L'esprit de Dieu fut sur Azaria, fils d'Obed,

¹ועזריהו בן עודד היתה עליו רוח אלהים׃

²and he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you, while ye are with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

²et Azaria alla au-devant d'Asa et lui dit: Ecoutez-moi, Asa, et tout Juda et Benjamin! L'Eternel est avec vous quand vous êtes avec lui; si vous le cherchez, vous le trouverez; mais si vous l'abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.

²ויצא לפני אסא ויאמר לו שמעוני אסא וכל יהודה ובנימן יהוה עמכם בהיותכם עמו ואם תדרשהו ימצא לכם ואם תעזבהו יעזב אתכם׃

³Now for a long season Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law:

³Pendant longtemps il n'y a eu pour Israël ni vrai Dieu, ni sacrificateur qui enseignât, ni loi.

³וימים רבים לישראל ללא אלהי אמת וללא כהן מורה וללא תורה׃

⁴But when in their distress they turned unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.

⁴Mais au sein de leur détresse ils sont retournés à l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, ils l'ont cherché, et ils l'ont trouvé.

⁴וישב בצר לו על יהוה אלהי ישראל ויבקשהו וימצא להם׃

⁵And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in; but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the lands.

⁵Dans ces temps-là, point de sécurité pour ceux qui allaient et venaient, car il y avait de grands troubles parmi tous les habitants du pays;

⁵ובעתים ההם אין שלום ליוצא ולבא כי מהומת רבות על כל יושבי הארצות׃

⁶And they were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God did vex them with all adversity.

⁶on se heurtait peuple contre peuple, ville contre ville, parce que Dieu les agitait par toutes sortes d'angoisses.

⁶וכתתו גוי בגוי ועיר בעיר כי אלהים הממם בכל צרה׃

⁷But be ye strong, and let not your hands be slack; for your work shall be rewarded.

⁷Vous donc, fortifiez-vous, et ne laissez pas vos mains s'affaiblir, car il y aura un salaire pour vos oeuvres.

⁷ואתם חזקו ואל ירפו ידיכם כי יש שכר לפעלתכם׃

⁸And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill-country of Ephraim; and he renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah.

⁸Après avoir entendu ces paroles et la prophétie d'Obed le prophète, Asa se fortifia et fit disparaître les abominations de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin et des villes qu'il avait prises dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, et il restaura l'autel de l'Eternel qui était devant le portique de l'Eternel.

⁸וכשמע אסא הדברים האלה והנבואה עדד הנביא התחזק ויעבר השקוצים מכל ארץ יהודה ובנימן ומן הערים אשר לכד מהר אפרים ויחדש את מזבח יהוה אשר לפני אולם יהוה׃

⁹And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and them that sojourned with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him.

⁹Il rassembla tout Juda et Benjamin, et ceux d'Ephraïm, de Manassé et de Siméon qui habitaient parmi eux, car un grand nombre de gens d'Israël se joignirent à lui lorsqu'ils virent que l'Eternel, son Dieu, était avec lui.

⁹ויקבץ את כל יהודה ובנימן והגרים עמהם מאפרים ומנשה ומשמעון כי נפלו עליו מישראל לרב בראתם כי יהוה אלהיו עמו׃

¹⁰So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

¹⁰Ils s'assemblèrent à Jérusalem le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d'Asa.

¹⁰ויקבצו ירושלם בחדש השלישי לשנת חמש עשרה למלכות אסא׃

¹¹And they sacrificed unto Jehovah in that day, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.

¹¹Ce jour-là, ils sacrifièrent à l'Eternel, sur le butin qu'ils avaient amené, sept cents boeufs et sept mille brebis.

¹¹ויזבחו ליהוה ביום ההוא מן השלל הביאו בקר שבע מאות וצאן שבעת אלפים׃

¹²And they entered into the covenant to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul;

¹²Ils prirent l'engagement de chercher l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur coeur et de toute leur âme;

¹²ויבאו בברית לדרוש את יהוה אלהי אבותיהם בכל לבבם ובכל נפשם׃

¹³and that whosoever would not seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

¹³et quiconque ne chercherait pas l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, devait être mis à mort, petit ou grand, homme ou femme.

¹³וכל אשר לא ידרש ליהוה אלהי ישראל יומת למן קטן ועד גדול למאיש ועד אשה׃

¹⁴And they sware unto Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.

¹⁴Ils jurèrent fidélité à l'Eternel à voix haute, avec des cris de joie, et au son des trompettes et des cors;

¹⁴וישבעו ליהוה בקול גדול ובתרועה ובחצצרות ובשופרות׃

¹⁵And all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and Jehovah gave them rest round about.

¹⁵tout Juda se réjouit de ce serment, car ils avaient juré de tout leur coeur, ils avaient cherché l'Eternel de plein gré, et ils l'avaient trouvé, et l'Eternel leur donna du repos de tous côtés.

¹⁵וישמחו כל יהודה על השבועה כי בכל לבבם נשבעו ובכל רצונם בקשהו וימצא להם וינח יהוה להם מסביב׃

¹⁶And also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

¹⁶Le roi Asa enleva même à Maaca, sa mère, la dignité de reine, parce qu'elle avait fait une idole pour Astarté. Asa abattit son idole, qu'il réduisit en poussière, et la brûla au torrent de Cédron.

¹⁶וגם מעכה אם אסא המלך הסירה מגבירה אשר עשתה לאשרה מפלצת ויכרת אסא את מפלצתה וידק וישרף בנחל קדרון׃

¹⁷But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

¹⁷Mais les hauts lieux ne disparurent point d'Israël, quoique le coeur d'Asa fût en entier à l'Eternel pendant toute sa vie.

¹⁷והבמות לא סרו מישראל רק לבב אסא היה שלם כל ימיו׃

¹⁸And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

¹⁸Il mit dans la maison de Dieu les choses consacrées par son père et par lui-même, de l'argent, de l'or et des vases.

¹⁸ויבא את קדשי אביו וקדשיו בית האלהים כסף וזהב וכלים׃

¹⁹And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.

¹⁹Il n'y eut point de guerre jusqu'à la trente-cinquième année du règne d'Asa.

¹⁹ומלחמה לא היתה עד שנת שלשים וחמש למלכות אסא׃
