¹In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

¹La trente-sixième année du règne d'Asa, Baescha, roi d'Israël, monta contre Juda; et il bâtit Rama, pour empêcher ceux d'Asa, roi de Juda, de sortir et d'entrer.

¹בשנת שלשים ושש למלכות אסא עלה בעשא מלך ישראל על יהודה ויבן את הרמה לבלתי תת יוצא ובא לאסא מלך יהודה׃

²Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

²Asa sortit de l'argent et de l'or des trésors de la maison de l'Eternel et de la maison du roi, et il envoya des messagers vers Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, qui habitait à Damas.

²ויצא אסא כסף וזהב מאצרות בית יהוה ובית המלך וישלח אל בן הדד מלך ארם היושב בדרמשק לאמר׃

³[There is] a league between me and thee, as [there was] between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

³Il lui fit dire: Qu'il y ait une alliance entre moi et toi, comme il y en eut une entre mon père et ton père. Voici, je t'envoie de l'argent et de l'or. Va, romps ton alliance avec Baescha, roi d'Israël, afin qu'il s'éloigne de moi.

³ברית ביני ובינך ובין אבי ובין אביך הנה שלחתי לך כסף וזהב לך הפר בריתך את בעשא מלך ישראל ויעלה מעלי׃

⁴And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store-cities of Naphtali.

⁴Ben-Hadad écouta le roi Asa; il envoya les chefs de son armée contre les villes d'Israël, et ils frappèrent Ijjon, Dan, Abel-Maïm, et tous les magasins des villes de Nephthali.

⁴וישמע בן הדד אל המלך אסא וישלח את שרי החילים אשר לו אל ערי ישראל ויכו את עיון ואת דן ואת אבל מים ואת כל מסכנות ערי נפתלי׃

⁵And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building Ramah, and let his work cease.

⁵Lorsque Baescha l'apprit, il cessa de bâtir Rama et interrompit ses travaux.

⁵ויהי כשמע בעשא ויחדל מבנות את הרמה וישבת את מלאכתו׃

⁶Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

⁶Le roi Asa occupa tout Juda à emporter les pierres et le bois que Baescha employait à la construction de Rama, et il s'en servit pour bâtir Guéba et Mitspa.

⁶ואסא המלך לקח את כל יהודה וישאו את אבני הרמה ואת עציה אשר בנה בעשא ויבן בהם את גבע ואת המצפה׃

⁷And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on Jehovah thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.

⁷Dans ce temps-là, Hanani, le voyant, alla auprès d'Asa, roi de Juda, et lui dit: Parce que tu t'es appuyé sur le roi de Syrie et que tu ne t'es pas appuyé sur l'Eternel, ton Dieu, l'armée du roi de Syrie s'est échappée de tes mains.

⁷ובעת ההיא בא חנני הראה אל אסא מלך יהודה ויאמר אליו בהשענך על מלך ארם ולא נשענת על יהוה אלהיך על כן נמלט חיל מלך ארם מידך׃

⁸Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge host, with chariots and horsemen exceeding many? yet, because thou didst rely on Jehovah, he delivered them into thy hand.

⁸Les Ethiopiens et les Libyens ne formaient-ils pas une grande armée, avec des chars et une multitude de cavaliers? Et cependant l'Eternel les a livrés entre tes mains, parce que tu t'étais appuyé sur lui.

⁸הלא הכושים והלובים היו לחיל לרב לרכב ולפרשים להרבה מאד ובהשענך על יהוה נתנם בידך׃

⁹For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

⁹Car l'Eternel étend ses regards sur toute la terre, pour soutenir ceux dont le coeur est tout entier à lui. Tu as agi en insensé dans cette affaire, car dès à présent tu auras des guerres.

⁹כי יהוה עיניו משטטות בכל הארץ להתחזק עם לבבם שלם אליו נסכלת על זאת כי מעתה יש עמך מלחמות׃

¹⁰Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

¹⁰Asa fut irrité contre le voyant, et il le fit mettre en prison, parce qu'il était en colère contre lui. Et dans le même temps Asa opprima aussi quelques-uns du peuple.

¹⁰ויכעס אסא אל הראה ויתנהו בית המהפכת כי בזעף עמו על זאת וירצץ אסא מן העם בעת ההיא׃

¹¹And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

¹¹Les actions d'Asa, les premières et les dernières, sont écrites dans le livre des rois de Juda et d'Israël.

¹¹והנה דברי אסא הראשונים והאחרונים הנם כתובים על ספר המלכים ליהודה וישראל׃

¹²And in the thirty and ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to Jehovah, but to the physicians.

¹²La trente-neuvième année de son règne, Asa eut les pieds malades au point d'éprouver de grandes souffrances; même pendant sa maladie, il ne chercha pas l'Eternel, mais il consulta les médecins.

¹²ויחלא אסא בשנת שלושים ותשע למלכותו ברגליו עד למעלה חליו וגם בחליו לא דרש את יהוה כי ברפאים׃

¹³And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

¹³Asa se coucha avec ses pères, et il mourut la quarante et unième année de son règne;

¹³וישכב אסא עם אבתיו וימת בשנת ארבעים ואחת למלכו׃

¹⁴And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds [of spices] prepared by the perfumers' art: and they made a very great burning for him.

¹⁴on l'enterra dans le sépulcre qu'il s'était creusé dans la ville de David. On le coucha sur un lit qu'on avait garni d'aromates et de parfums préparés selon l'art du parfumeur, et l'on en brûla en son honneur une quantité très considérable.

¹⁴ויקברהו בקברתיו אשר כרה לו בעיר דויד וישכיבהו במשכב אשר מלא בשמים וזנים מרקחים במרקחת מעשה וישרפו לו שרפה גדולה עד למאד׃
