¹And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

²And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

²il mit des troupes dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda, et des garnisons dans le pays de Juda et dans les villes d'Ephraïm dont Asa, son père, s'était emparé.

²ויתן חיל בכל ערי יהודה הבצרות ויתן נציבים בארץ יהודה ובערי אפרים אשר לכד אסא אביו׃

³And Jehovah was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baalim,

³L'Eternel fut avec Josaphat, parce qu'il marcha dans les premières voies de David, son père, et qu'il ne rechercha point les Baals;

³ויהי יהוה עם יהושפט כי הלך בדרכי דויד אביו הראשנים ולא דרש לבעלים׃

⁴but sought to the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

⁴car il eut recours au Dieu de son père, et il suivit ses commandements, sans imiter ce que faisait Israël.

⁴כי לאלהי אביו דרש ובמצותיו הלך ולא כמעשה ישראל׃

⁵Therefore Jehovah established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat tribute; and he had riches and honor in abundance.

⁵L'Eternel affermit la royauté entre les mains de Josaphat, à qui tout Juda apportait des présents, et qui eut en abondance des richesses et de la gloire.

⁵ויכן יהוה את הממלכה בידו ויתנו כל יהודה מנחה ליהושפט ויהי לו עשר וכבוד לרב׃

⁶And his heart was lifted up in the ways of Jehovah: and furthermore he took away the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.

⁶Son coeur grandit dans les voies de l'Eternel, et il fit encore disparaître de Juda les hauts lieux et les idoles.

⁶ויגבה לבו בדרכי יהוה ועוד הסיר את הבמות ואת האשרים מיהודה׃

⁷Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;

⁷La troisième année de son règne, il chargea ses chefs Ben-Haïl, Abdias, Zacharie, Nethaneel et Michée, d'aller enseigner dans les villes de Juda.

⁷ובשנת שלוש למלכו שלח לשריו לבן חיל ולעבדיה ולזכריה ולנתנאל ולמיכיהו ללמד בערי יהודה׃

⁸and with them the Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

⁸Il envoya avec eux les Lévites Schemaeja, Nethania, Zebadia, Asaël, Schemiramoth, Jonathan, Adonija, Tobija et Tob-Adonija, Lévites, et les sacrificateurs Elischama et Joram.

⁸ועמהם הלוים שמעיהו ונתניהו וזבדיהו ועשהאל ושמרימות ויהונתן ואדניהו וטוביהו וטוב אדוניה הלוים ועמהם אלישמע ויהורם הכהנים׃

⁹And they taught in Judah, having the book of the law of Jehovah with them; and they went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

⁹Ils enseignèrent dans Juda, ayant avec eux le livre de la loi de l'Eternel. Ils parcoururent toutes les villes de Juda, et ils enseignèrent parmi le peuple.

⁹וילמדו ביהודה ועמהם ספר תורת יהוה ויסבו בכל ערי יהודה וילמדו בעם׃

¹⁰And the fear of Jehovah fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

¹⁰La terreur de l'Eternel s'empara de tous les royaumes des pays qui environnaient Juda, et ils ne firent point la guerre à Josaphat.

¹⁰ויהי פחד יהוה על כל ממלכות הארצות אשר סביבות יהודה ולא נלחמו עם יהושפט׃

¹¹And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and silver for tribute; the Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats.

¹¹Des Philistins apportèrent à Josaphat des présents et un tribut en argent; et les Arabes lui amenèrent aussi du bétail, sept mille sept cents béliers et sept mille sept cents boucs.

¹¹ומן פלשתים מביאים ליהושפט מנחה וכסף משא גם הערביאים מביאים לו צאן אילים שבעת אלפים ושבע מאות ותישים שבעת אלפים ושבע מאות׃

¹²And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles and cities of store.

¹²Josaphat s'élevait au plus haut degré de grandeur. Il bâtit en Juda des châteaux et des villes pour servir de magasins.

¹²ויהי יהושפט הלך וגדל עד למעלה ויבן ביהודה בירניות וערי מסכנות׃

¹³And he had many works in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.

¹³Il fit exécuter beaucoup de travaux dans les villes de Juda, et il avait à Jérusalem de vaillants hommes pour soldats.

¹³ומלאכה רבה היה לו בערי יהודה ואנשי מלחמה גבורי חיל בירושלם׃

¹⁴And this was the numbering of them according to their fathers' houses: Of Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand;

¹⁴Voici leur dénombrement, selon les maisons de leurs pères. De Juda, chefs de milliers: Adna, le chef, avec trois cent mille vaillants hommes;

¹⁴ואלה פקדתם לבית אבותיהם ליהודה שרי אלפים עדנה השר ועמו גבורי חיל שלש מאות אלף׃

¹⁵and next to him Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand;

¹⁵et à ses côtés, Jochanan, le chef, avec deux cent quatre-vingt mille hommes;

¹⁵ועל ידו יהוחנן השר ועמו מאתים ושמונים אלף׃

¹⁶and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto Jehovah; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.

¹⁶et à ses côtés, Amasia, fils de Zicri, qui s'était volontairement consacré à l'Eternel, avec deux cent mille vaillants hommes.

¹⁶ועל ידו עמסיה בן זכרי המתנדב ליהוה ועמו מאתים אלף גבור חיל׃

¹⁷And of Benjamin: Eliada a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield;

¹⁷De Benjamin: Eliada, vaillant homme, avec deux cent mille hommes armés de l'arc et du bouclier,

¹⁷ומן בנימן גבור חיל אלידע ועמו נשקי קשת ומגן מאתים אלף׃

¹⁸and next to him Jehozabad and with him a hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for war.

¹⁸et à ses côtés, Zozabad, avec cent quatre-vingt mille hommes armés pour la guerre.

¹⁸ועל ידו יהוזבד ועמו מאה ושמונים אלף חלוצי צבא׃

¹⁹These were they that waited on the king, besides those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.

¹⁹Tels sont ceux qui étaient au service du roi, outre ceux que le roi avait placés dans toutes les villes fortes de Juda.

¹⁹אלה המשרתים את המלך מלבד אשר נתן המלך בערי המבצר בכל יהודה׃
