1Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ahab.
1Josaphat eut en abondance des richesses et de la gloire, et il s'allia par mariage avec Achab.
1ויהי ליהושפט עשר וכבוד לרב ויתחתן לאחאב׃
2And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that were with him, and moved him to go up [with him] to Ramoth-gilead.
2Au bout de quelques années, il descendit auprès d'Achab à Samarie; et Achab tua pour lui et pour le peuple qui était avec lui un grand nombre de brebis et de boeufs, et il le sollicita de monter à Ramoth en Galaad.
2וירד לקץ שנים אל אחאב לשמרון ויזבח לו אחאב צאן ובקר לרב ולעם אשר עמו ויסיתהו לעלות אל רמות גלעד׃
3And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramoth-gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and [we will be] with thee in the war.
3Achab, roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: Veux-tu venir avec moi à Ramoth en Galaad? Josaphat lui répondit: Moi comme toi, et mon peuple comme ton peuple, nous irons l'attaquer avec toi.
3ויאמר אחאב מלך ישראל אל יהושפט מלך יהודה התלך עמי רמת גלעד ויאמר לו כמוני כמוך וכעמך עמי ועמך במלחמה׃
4And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the word of Jehovah.
4Puis Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: Consulte maintenant, je te prie, la parole de l'Eternel.
4ויאמר יהושפט אל מלך ישראל דרש נא כיום את דבר יהוה׃
5Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.
5Le roi d'Israël assembla les prophètes, au nombre de quatre cents, et leur dit: Irons-nous attaquer Ramoth en Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer? Et ils répondirent: Monte, et Dieu la livrera entre les mains du roi.
5ויקבץ מלך ישראל את הנבאים ארבע מאות איש ויאמר אלהם הנלך אל רמת גלעד למלחמה אם אחדל ויאמרו עלה ויתן האלהים ביד המלך׃
6But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him?
6Mais Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il plus ici aucun prophète de l'Eternel, par qui nous puissions le consulter?
6ויאמר יהושפט האין פה נביא ליהוה עוד ונדרשה מאתו׃
7And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah: but I hate him; for he never prophesieth good concerning me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
7Le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: Il y a encore un homme par qui l'on pourrait consulter l'Eternel; mais je le hais, car il ne me prophétise rien de bon, il ne prophétise jamais que du mal: c'est Michée, fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit: Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!
7ויאמר מלך ישראל אל יהושפט עוד איש אחד לדרוש את יהוה מאתו ואני שנאתיהו כי איננו מתנבא עלי לטובה כי כל ימיו לרעה הוא מיכיהו בן ימלא ויאמר יהושפט אל יאמר המלך כן׃
8Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.
8Alors le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque, et dit: Fais venir tout de suite Michée, fils de Jimla.
8ויקרא מלך ישראל אל סריס אחד ויאמר מהר מיכהו בן ימלא׃
9Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.
9Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs habits royaux; ils étaient assis dans la place à l'entrée de la porte de Samarie. Et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.
9ומלך ישראל ויהושפט מלך יהודה יושבים איש על כסאו מלבשים בגדים וישבים בגרן פתח שער שמרון וכל הנביאים מתנבאים לפניהם׃
10And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith Jehovah, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed.
10Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s'était fait des cornes de fer, et il dit: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Avec ces cornes, tu frapperas les Syriens jusqu'à les détruire.
10ויעש לו צדקיהו בן כנענה קרני ברזל ויאמר כה אמר יהוה באלה תנגח את ארם עד כלותם׃
11And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; for Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king.
11Et tous les prophètes prophétisèrent de même, en disant: Monte à Ramoth en Galaad! tu auras du succès, et l'Eternel la livrera entre les mains du roi.
11וכל הנבאים נבאים כן לאמר עלה רמת גלעד והצלח ונתן יהוה ביד המלך׃
12And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets [declare] good to the king with one mouth: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.
12Le messager qui était allé appeler Michée lui parla ainsi: Voici, les prophètes d'un commun accord prophétisent du bien au roi; que ta parole soit donc comme la parole de chacun d'eux! annonce du bien!
12והמלאך אשר הלך לקרא למיכיהו דבר אליו לאמר הנה דברי הנבאים פה אחד טוב אל המלך ויהי נא דברך כאחד מהם ודברת טוב׃
13And Micaiah said, As Jehovah liveth, what my God saith, that will I speak.
13Michée répondit: L'Eternel est vivant! j'annoncerai ce que dira mon Dieu.
13ויאמר מיכיהו חי יהוה כי את אשר יאמר אלהי אתו אדבר׃
14And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and prosper; and they shall be delivered into your hand.
14Lorsqu'il fut arrivé auprès du roi, le roi lui dit: Michée, irons-nous attaquer Ramoth en Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer? Il répondit: Montez! vous aurez du succès, et ils seront livrés entre vos mains.
14ויבא אל המלך ויאמר המלך אליו מיכה הנלך אל רמת גלעד למלחמה אם אחדל ויאמר עלו והצליחו וינתנו בידכם׃
15And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of Jehovah?
15Et le roi lui dit: Combien de fois me faudra-t-il te faire jurer de ne me dire que la vérité au nom de l'Eternel?
15ויאמר אליו המלך עד כמה פעמים אני משביעך אשר לא תדבר אלי רק אמת בשם יהוה׃
16And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and Jehovah said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace.
16Michée répondit: Je vois tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes, comme des brebis qui n'ont point de berger; et l'Eternel dit: Ces gens n'ont point de maître, que chacun retourne en paix dans sa maison!
16ויאמר ראיתי את כל ישראל נפוצים על ההרים כצאן אשר אין להן רעה ויאמר יהוה לא אדנים לאלה ישובו איש לביתו בשלום׃
17And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?
17Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Ne te l'ai-je pas dit? Il ne prophétise sur moi rien de bon, il ne prophétise que du mal.
17ויאמר מלך ישראל אל יהושפט הלא אמרתי אליך לא יתנבא עלי טוב כי אם לרע׃
18And [Micaiah] said, Therefore hear ye the word of Jehovah: I saw Jehovah sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.
18Et Michée dit: Ecoutez donc la parole de l'Eternel! J'ai vu l'Eternel assis sur son trône, et toute l'armée des cieux se tenant à sa droite et à sa gauche.
18ויאמר לכן שמעו דבר יהוה ראיתי את יהוה יושב על כסאו וכל צבא השמים עמדים על ימינו ושמאלו׃
19And Jehovah said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
19Et l'Eternel dit: Qui séduira Achab, roi d'Israël, pour qu'il monte à Ramoth en Galaad et qu'il y périsse? Ils répondirent l'un d'une manière, l'autre d'une autre.
19ויאמר יהוה מי יפתה את אחאב מלך ישראל ויעל ויפל ברמות גלעד ויאמר זה אמר ככה וזה אמר ככה׃
20And there came forth a spirit, and stood before Jehovah, and said, I will entice him. And Jehovah said unto him, Wherewith?
20Et un esprit vint se présenter devant l'Eternel, et dit: Moi, je le séduirai. L'Eternel lui dit: Comment?
20ויצא הרוח ויעמד לפני יהוה ויאמר אני אפתנו ויאמר יהוה אליו במה׃
21And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also: go forth, and do so.
21Je sortirai, répondit-il, et je serai un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. L'Eternel dit: Tu le séduiras, et tu en viendras à bout; sors, et fais ainsi.
21ויאמר אצא והייתי לרוח שקר בפי כל נביאיו ויאמר תפתה וגם תוכל צא ועשה כן׃
22Now therefore, behold, Jehovah hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets; and Jehovah hath spoken evil concerning thee.
22Et maintenant, voici, l'Eternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes prophètes qui sont là. Et l'Eternel a prononcé du mal contre toi.
22ועתה הנה נתן יהוה רוח שקר בפי נביאיך אלה ויהוה דבר עליך רעה׃
23Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of Jehovah from me to speak unto thee?
23Alors Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s'étant approché, frappa Michée sur la joue, et dit: Par quel chemin l'esprit de l'Eternel est-il sorti de moi pour te parler?
23ויגש צדקיהו בן כנענה ויך את מיכיהו על הלחי ויאמר אי זה הדרך עבר רוח יהוה מאתי לדבר אתך׃
24And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.
24Michée répondit: Tu le verras au jour où tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.
24ויאמר מיכיהו הנך ראה ביום ההוא אשר תבוא חדר בחדר להחבא׃
25And the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
25Le roi d'Israël dit: Prenez Michée et emmenez-le vers Amon, chef de la ville, et vers Joas, fils du roi.
25ויאמר מלך ישראל קחו את מיכיהו והשיבהו אל אמון שר העיר ואל יואש בן המלך׃
26and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.
26Vous direz: Ainsi parle le roi: Mettez cet homme en prison, et nourrissez-le du pain et de l'eau d'affliction, jusqu'à ce que je revienne en paix.
26ואמרתם כה אמר המלך שימו זה בית הכלא והאכלהו לחם לחץ ומים לחץ עד שובי בשלום׃
27And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, Jehovah hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, ye peoples, all of you.
27Et Michée dit: Si tu reviens en paix, l'Eternel n'a point parlé par moi. Il dit encore: Vous tous, peuples, entendez!
27ויאמר מיכיהו אם שוב תשוב בשלום לא דבר יהוה בי ויאמר שמעו עמים כלם׃
28So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.
28Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, montèrent à Ramoth en Galaad.
28ויעל מלך ישראל ויהושפט מלך יהודה אל רמת גלעד׃
29And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle.
29Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Je veux me déguiser pour aller au combat; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes habits. Et le roi d'Israël se déguisa, et ils allèrent au combat.
29ויאמר מלך ישראל אל יהושפט התחפש ובוא במלחמה ואתה לבש בגדיך ויתחפש מלך ישראל ויבאו במלחמה׃
30Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.
30Le roi de Syrie avait donné cet ordre aux chefs de ses chars: Vous n'attaquerez ni petit ni grand, mais vous attaquerez seulement le roi d'Israël.
30ומלך ארם צוה את שרי הרכב אשר לו לאמר לא תלחמו את הקטן את הגדול כי אם את מלך ישראל לבדו׃
31And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they turned about to fight against him: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and Jehovah helped him; and God moved them [to depart] from him.
31Quand les chefs des chars aperçurent Josaphat, ils dirent: C'est le roi d'Israël. Et ils l'entourèrent pour l'attaquer. Josaphat poussa un cri, et l'Eternel le secourut, et Dieu les écarta de lui.
31ויהי כראות שרי הרכב את יהושפט והמה אמרו מלך ישראל הוא ויסבו עליו להלחם ויזעק יהושפט ויהוה עזרו ויסיתם אלהים ממנו׃
32And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.
32Les chefs des chars, voyant que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, s'éloignèrent de lui.
32ויהי כראות שרי הרכב כי לא היה מלך ישראל וישבו מאחריו׃
33And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the armor: wherefore he said to the driver of the chariot, Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.
33Alors un homme tira de son arc au hasard, et frappa le roi d'Israël au défaut de la cuirasse. Le roi dit à celui qui dirigeait son char: Tourne, et fais-moi sortir du champ de bataille, car je suis blessé.
33ואיש משך בקשת לתמו ויך את מלך ישראל בין הדבקים ובין השרין ויאמר לרכב הפך ידיך והוצאתני מן המחנה כי החליתי׃
34And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even; and about the time of the going down of the sun he died.
34Le combat devint acharné ce jour-là. Le roi d'Israël fut retenu dans son char, en face des Syriens, jusqu'au soir, et il mourut vers le coucher du soleil.
34ותעל המלחמה ביום ההוא ומלך ישראל היה מעמיד במרכבה נכח ארם עד הערב וימת לעת בוא השמש׃
