¹And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

¹Josaphat, roi de Juda, revint en paix dans sa maison à Jérusalem.

¹וישב יהושפט מלך יהודה אל ביתו בשלום לירושלם׃

²And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the wicked, and love them that hate Jehovah? for this thing wrath is upon thee from before Jehovah.

²Jéhu, fils de Hanani, le prophète, alla au-devant de lui. Et il dit au roi Josaphat: Doit-on secourir le méchant, et aimes-tu ceux qui haïssent l'Eternel? A cause de cela, l'Eternel est irrité contre toi.

²ויצא אל פניו יהוא בן חנני החזה ויאמר אל המלך יהושפט הלרשע לעזר ולשנאי יהוה תאהב ובזאת עליך קצף מלפני יהוה׃

³Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast put away the Asheroth out of the land, and hast set thy heart to seek God.

³Mais il s'est trouvé de bonnes choses en toi, car tu as fait disparaître du pays les idoles, et tu as appliqué ton coeur à chercher Dieu.

³אבל דברים טובים נמצאו עמך כי בערת האשרות מן הארץ והכינות לבבך לדרש האלהים׃

⁴And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again among the people from Beer-sheba to the hill-country of Ephraim, and brought them back unto Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

⁴Josaphat resta à Jérusalem. Puis il fit encore une tournée parmi le peuple, depuis Beer-Schéba jusqu'à la montagne d'Ephraïm, et il les ramena à l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.

⁴וישב יהושפט בירושלם וישב ויצא בעם מבאר שבע עד הר אפרים וישיבם אל יהוה אלהי אבותיהם׃

⁵And he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,

⁵Il établit des juges dans toutes les villes fortes du pays de Juda, dans chaque ville.

⁵ויעמד שפטים בארץ בכל ערי יהודה הבצרות לעיר ועיר׃

⁶and said to the judges, Consider what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for Jehovah; and [he is] with you in the judgment.

⁶Et il dit aux juges: Prenez garde à ce que vous ferez, car ce n'est pas pour les hommes que vous prononcerez des jugements; c'est pour l'Eternel, qui sera près de vous quand vous les prononcerez.

⁶ויאמר אל השפטים ראו מה אתם עשים כי לא לאדם תשפטו כי ליהוה ועמכם בדבר משפט׃

⁷Now therefore let the fear of Jehovah be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with Jehovah our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

⁷Maintenant, que la crainte de l'Eternel soit sur vous; veillez sur vos actes, car il n'y a chez l'Eternel, notre Dieu, ni iniquité, ni égards pour l'apparence des personnes, ni acceptation de présents.

⁷ועתה יהי פחד יהוה עליכם שמרו ועשו כי אין עם יהוה אלהינו עולה ומשא פנים ומקח שחד׃

⁸Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites and the priests, and of the heads of the fathers' [houses] of Israel, for the judgment of Jehovah, and for controversies. And they returned to Jerusalem.

⁸Quand on fut de retour à Jérusalem, Josaphat y établit aussi, pour les jugements de l'Eternel et pour les contestations, des Lévites, des sacrificateurs et des chefs de maisons paternelles d'Israël.

⁸וגם בירושלם העמיד יהושפט מן הלוים והכהנים ומראשי האבות לישראל למשפט יהוה ולריב וישבו ירושלם׃

⁹And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of Jehovah, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

⁹Et voici les ordres qu'il leur donna: Vous agirez de la manière suivante dans la crainte de l'Eternel, avec fidélité et avec intégrité de coeur.

⁹ויצו עליהם לאמר כה תעשון ביראת יהוה באמונה ובלבב שלם׃

¹⁰And whensoever any controversy shall come to you from your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, ye shall warn them, that they be not guilty towards Jehovah, and so wrath come upon you and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not be guilty.

¹⁰Dans toute contestation qui vous sera soumise par vos frères, établis dans leurs villes, relativement à un meurtre, à une loi, à un commandement, à des préceptes et à des ordonnances, vous les éclairerez, afin qu'ils ne se rendent pas coupables envers l'Eternel, et que sa colère n'éclate pas sur vous et sur vos frères. C'est ainsi que vous agirez, et vous ne serez point coupables.

¹⁰וכל ריב אשר יבוא עליכם מאחיכם הישבים בעריהם בין דם לדם בין תורה למצוה לחקים ולמשפטים והזהרתם אתם ולא יאשמו ליהוה והיה קצף עליכם ועל אחיכם כה תעשון ולא תאשמו׃

¹¹And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of Jehovah; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and Jehovah be with the good.

¹¹Et voici, vous avez à votre tête Amaria, le souverain sacrificateur, pour toutes les affaires de l'Eternel, et Zebadia, fils d'Ismaël, chef de la maison de Juda, pour toutes les affaires du roi, et vous avez devant vous des Lévites comme magistrats. Fortifiez-vous et agissez, et que l'Eternel soit avec celui qui fera le bien!

¹¹והנה אמריהו כהן הראש עליכם לכל דבר יהוה וזבדיהו בן ישמעאל הנגיד לבית יהודה לכל דבר המלך ושטרים הלוים לפניכם חזקו ועשו ויהי יהוה עם הטוב׃
