¹Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he did not that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, like David his father;

¹Achaz avait vingt ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem. Il ne fit point ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel, comme avait fait David, son père.

¹בן עשרים שנה אחז במלכו ושש עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם ולא עשה הישר בעיני יהוה כדויד אביו׃

²but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for the Baalim.

²Il marcha dans les voies des rois d'Israël; et même il fit des images en fonte pour les Baals,

²וילך בדרכי מלכי ישראל וגם מסכות עשה לבעלים׃

³Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel.

³il brûla des parfums dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom, et il fit passer ses fils par le feu, suivant les abominations des nations que l'Eternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël.

³והוא הקטיר בגיא בן הנם ויבער את בניו באש כתעבות הגוים אשר הריש יהוה מפני בני ישראל׃

⁴And he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

⁴Il offrait des sacrifices et des parfums sur les hauts lieux, sur les collines et sous tout arbre vert.

⁴ויזבח ויקטר בבמות ועל הגבעות ותחת כל עץ רענן׃

⁵Wherefore Jehovah his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

⁵L'Eternel, son Dieu, le livra entre les mains du roi de Syrie; et les Syriens le battirent et lui firent un grand nombre de prisonniers, qu'ils emmenèrent à Damas. Il fut aussi livré entre les mains du roi d'Israël, qui lui fit éprouver une grande défaite.

⁵ויתנהו יהוה אלהיו ביד מלך ארם ויכו בו וישבו ממנו שביה גדולה ויביאו דרמשק וגם ביד מלך ישראל נתן ויך בו מכה גדולה׃

⁶For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

⁶Pékach, fils de Remalia, tua dans un seul jour en Juda cent vingt mille hommes, tous vaillants, parce qu'ils avaient abandonné l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.

⁶ויהרג פקח בן רמליהו ביהודה מאה ועשרים אלף ביום אחד הכל בני חיל בעזבם את יהוה אלהי אבותם׃

⁷And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.

⁷Zicri, guerrier d'Ephraïm, tua Maaséja, fils du roi, Azrikam, chef de la maison royale, et Elkana, le second après le roi.

⁷ויהרג זכרי גבור אפרים את מעשיהו בן המלך ואת עזריקם נגיד הבית ואת אלקנה משנה המלך׃

⁸And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

⁸Les enfants d'Israël firent parmi leurs frères deux cent mille prisonniers, femmes, fils et filles, et ils leur prirent beaucoup de butin, qu'ils emmenèrent à Samarie.

⁸וישבו בני ישראל מאחיהם מאתים אלף נשים בנים ובנות וגם שלל רב בזזו מהם ויביאו את השלל לשמרון׃

⁹But a prophet of Jehovah was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out to meet the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because Jehovah, the God of your fathers, was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage which hath reached up to heaven.

⁹Il y avait là un prophète de l'Eternel, nommé Oded. Il alla au-devant de l'armée qui revenait à Samarie, et il leur dit: C'est dans sa colère contre Juda que l'Eternel, le Dieu de vos pères, les a livrés entre vos mains, et vous les avez tués avec une fureur qui est montée jusqu'aux cieux.

⁹ושם היה נביא ליהוה עדד שמו ויצא לפני הצבא הבא לשמרון ויאמר להם הנה בחמת יהוה אלהי אבותיכם על יהודה נתנם בידכם ותהרגו בם בזעף עד לשמים הגיע׃

¹⁰And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: [but] are there not even with you trespasses of your own against Jehovah your God?

¹⁰Et vous pensez maintenant faire des enfants de Juda et de Jérusalem vos serviteurs et vos servantes! Mais vous, n'êtes-vous pas coupables envers l'Eternel, votre Dieu?

¹⁰ועתה בני יהודה וירושלם אתם אמרים לכבש לעבדים ולשפחות לכם הלא רק אתם עמכם אשמות ליהוה אלהיכם׃

¹¹Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives, that ye have taken captive of your brethren; for the fierce wrath of Jehovah is upon you.

¹¹Ecoutez-moi donc, et renvoyez ces captifs que vous avez faits parmi vos frères; car la colère ardente de l'Eternel est sur vous.

¹¹ועתה שמעוני והשיבו השביה אשר שביתם מאחיכם כי חרון אף יהוה עליכם׃

¹²Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,

¹²Quelques-uns d'entre les chefs des fils d'Ephraïm, Azaria, fils de Jochanan, Bérékia, fils de Meschillémoth, Ezéchias, fils de Schallum, et Amasa, fils de Hadlaï, s'élevèrent contre ceux qui revenaient de l'armée,

¹²ויקמו אנשים מראשי בני אפרים עזריהו בן יהוחנן ברכיהו בן משלמות ויחזקיהו בן שלם ועמשא בן חדלי על הבאים מן הצבא׃

¹³and said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for ye purpose that which will bring upon us a trespass against Jehovah, to add unto our sins and to our trespass; for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.

¹³et leur dirent: Vous ne ferez point entrer ici des captifs; car, pour nous rendre coupables envers l'Eternel, vous voulez ajouter à nos péchés et à nos fautes. Nous sommes déjà bien coupables, et la colère ardente de l'Eternel est sur Israël.

¹³ויאמרו להם לא תביאו את השביה הנה כי לאשמת יהוה עלינו אתם אמרים להסיף על חטאתינו ועל אשמתינו כי רבה אשמה לנו וחרון אף על ישראל׃

¹⁴So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the assembly.

¹⁴Les soldats abandonnèrent les captifs et le butin devant les chefs et devant toute l'assemblée.

¹⁴ויעזב החלוץ את השביה ואת הבזה לפני השרים וכל הקהל׃

¹⁵And the men that have been mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm-trees, unto their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.

¹⁵Et les hommes dont les noms viennent d'être mentionnés se levèrent et prirent les captifs; ils employèrent le butin à vêtir tous ceux qui étaient nus, ils leur donnèrent des habits et des chaussures, ils les firent manger et boire, ils les oignirent, ils conduisirent sur des ânes tous ceux qui étaient fatigués, et ils les menèrent à Jéricho, la ville des palmiers, auprès de leurs frères. Puis ils retournèrent à Samarie.

¹⁵ויקמו האנשים אשר נקבו בשמות ויחזיקו בשביה וכל מערמיהם הלבישו מן השלל וילבשום וינעלום ויאכלום וישקום ויסכום וינהלום בחמרים לכל כושל ויביאום ירחו עיר התמרים אצל אחיהם וישובו שמרון׃

¹⁶At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

¹⁶En ce temps-là, le roi Achaz envoya demander du secours aux rois d'Assyrie.

¹⁶בעת ההיא שלח המלך אחז על מלכי אשור לעזר לו׃

¹⁷For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.

¹⁷Les Edomites vinrent encore, battirent Juda, et emmenèrent des captifs.

¹⁷ועוד אדומים באו ויכו ביהודה וישבו שבי׃

¹⁸The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland, and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco with the towns thereof, and Timnah with the towns thereof, Gimzo also and the towns thereof: and they dwelt there.

¹⁸Les Philistins firent une invasion dans les villes de la plaine et du midi de Juda; ils prirent Beth-Schémesch, Ajalon, Guedéroth, Soco et les villes de son ressort, Thimna et les villes de son ressort Guimzo et les villes de son ressort, et ils s'y établirent.

¹⁸ופלשתים פשטו בערי השפלה והנגב ליהודה וילכדו את בית שמש ואת אילון ואת הגדרות ואת שוכו ובנותיה ואת תמנה ובנותיה ואת גמזו ואת בנתיה וישבו שם׃

¹⁹For Jehovah brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he had dealt wantonly in Judah, and trespassed sore against Jehovah.

¹⁹Car l'Eternel humilia Juda, à cause d'Achaz, roi d'Israël, qui avait jeté le désordre dans Juda et commis des péchés contre l'Eternel.

¹⁹כי הכניע יהוה את יהודה בעבור אחז מלך ישראל כי הפריע ביהודה ומעול מעל ביהוה׃

²⁰And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.

²⁰Tilgath-Pilnéser, roi d'Assyrie, vint contre lui, le traita en ennemi, et ne le soutint pas.

²⁰ויבא עליו תלגת פלנאסר מלך אשור ויצר לו ולא חזקו׃

²¹For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of Jehovah, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but it helped him not.

²¹Car Achaz dépouilla la maison de l'Eternel, la maison du roi et celle des chefs, pour faire des présents au roi d'Assyrie; ce qui ne lui fut d'aucun secours.

²¹כי חלק אחז את בית יהוה ואת בית המלך והשרים ויתן למלך אשור ולא לעזרה לו׃

²²And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same king Ahaz.

²²Pendant qu'il était dans la détresse, il continuait à pécher contre l'Eternel, lui, le roi Achaz.

²²ובעת הצר לו ויוסף למעול ביהוה הוא המלך אחז׃

²³For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him; and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, [therefore] will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

²³Il sacrifia aux dieux de Damas, qui l'avaient frappé, et il dit: Puisque les dieux des rois de Syrie leur viennent en aide, je leur sacrifierai pour qu'ils me secourent. Mais ils furent l'occasion de sa chute et de celle de tout Israël.

²³ויזבח לאלהי דרמשק המכים בו ויאמר כי אלהי מלכי ארם הם מעזרים אותם להם אזבח ויעזרוני והם היו לו להכשילו ולכל ישראל׃

²⁴And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of Jehovah; and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

²⁴Achaz rassembla les ustensiles de la maison de Dieu, et il mit en pièces les ustensiles de la maison de Dieu. Il ferma les portes de la maison de l'Eternel, il se fit des autels à tous les coins de Jérusalem,

²⁴ויאסף אחז את כלי בית האלהים ויקצץ את כלי בית האלהים ויסגר את דלתות בית יהוה ויעש לו מזבחות בכל פנה בירושלם׃

²⁵And in every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger Jehovah, the God of his fathers.

²⁵et il établit des hauts lieux dans chacune des villes de Juda pour offrir des parfums à d'autres dieux. Il irrita ainsi l'Eternel, le Dieu de ses pères.

²⁵ובכל עיר ועיר ליהודה עשה במות לקטר לאלהים אחרים ויכעס את יהוה אלהי אבתיו׃

²⁶Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

²⁶Le reste de ses actions et toutes ses voies, les premières et les dernières, cela est écrit dans le livre des rois de Juda et d'Israël.

²⁶ויתר דבריו וכל דרכיו הראשנים והאחרונים הנם כתובים על ספר מלכי יהודה וישראל׃

²⁷And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem; for they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

²⁷Achaz se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra dans la ville de Jérusalem, car on ne le mit point dans les sépulcres des rois d'Israël. Et Ezéchias, son fils, régna à sa place.

²⁷וישכב אחז עם אבתיו ויקברהו בעיר בירושלם כי לא הביאהו לקברי מלכי ישראל וימלך יחזקיהו בנו תחתיו׃
