1Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem.
1Josias avait huit ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem.
1בן שמונה שנים יאשיהו במלכו ושלשים ואחת שנה מלך בירושלם׃
2And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
2Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel, et il marcha dans les voies de David, son père; il ne s'en détourna ni à droite ni à gauche.
2ויעש הישר בעיני יהוה וילך בדרכי דויד אביו ולא סר ימין ושמאול׃
3For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherim, and the graven images, and the molten images.
3La huitième année de son règne, comme il était encore jeune, il commença à rechercher le Dieu de David, son père; et la douzième année, il commença à purifier Juda et Jérusalem des hauts lieux, des idoles, des images taillées et des images en fonte.
3ובשמונה שנים למלכו והוא עודנו נער החל לדרוש לאלהי דויד אביו ובשתים עשרה שנה החל לטהר את יהודה וירושלם מן הבמות והאשרים והפסלים והמסכות׃
4And they brake down the altars of the Baalim in his presence; and the sun-images that were on high above them he hewed down; and the Asherim, and the graven images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it upon the graves [of them] that had sacrificed unto them.
4On renversa devant lui les autels des Baals, et il abattit les statues consacrées au soleil qui étaient dessus; il brisa les idoles, les images taillées et les images en fonte, et les réduisit en poussière, et il répandit la poussière sur les sépulcres de ceux qui leur avaient sacrifié;
4וינתצו לפניו את מזבחות הבעלים והחמנים אשר למעלה מעליהם גדע והאשרים והפסלים והמסכות שבר והדק ויזרק על פני הקברים הזבחים להם׃
5And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.
5et il brûla les ossements des prêtres sur leurs autels. C'est ainsi qu'il purifia Juda et Jérusalem.
5ועצמות כהנים שרף על מזבחותים ויטהר את יהודה ואת ירושלם׃
6And [so did he] in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, in their ruins round about.
6Dans les villes de Manassé, d'Ephraïm, de Siméon, et même de Nephthali, partout au milieu de leurs ruines,
6ובערי מנשה ואפרים ושמעון ועד נפתלי בהר בתיהם סביב׃
7And he brake down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the graven images into powder, and hewed down all the sun-images throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.
7il renversa les autels, il mit en pièces les idoles et les images taillées et les réduisit en poussière, et il abattit toutes les statues consacrées au soleil dans tout le pays d'Israël. Puis il retourna à Jérusalem.
7וינתץ את המזבחות ואת האשרים והפסלים כתת להדק וכל החמנים גדע בכל ארץ ישראל וישב לירושלם׃
8Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of Jehovah his God.
8La dix-huitième année de son règne, après qu'il eut purifié le pays et la maison, il envoya Schaphan, fils d'Atsalia, Maaséja, chef de la ville, et Joach, fils de Joachaz, l'archiviste, pour réparer la maison de l'Eternel, son Dieu.
8ובשנת שמונה עשרה למלכו לטהר הארץ והבית שלח את שפן בן אצליהו ואת מעשיהו שר העיר ואת יואח בן יואחז המזכיר לחזק את בית יהוה אלהיו׃
9And they came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
9Ils se rendirent auprès du souverain sacrificateur Hilkija, et on livra l'argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de Dieu, et que les Lévites gardiens du seuil avaient recueilli de Manassé et d'Ephraïm et de tout le reste d'Israël, et de tout Juda et Benjamin et des habitants de Jérusalem.
9ויבאו אל חלקיהו הכהן הגדול ויתנו את הכסף המובא בית אלהים אשר אספו הלוים שמרי הסף מיד מנשה ואפרים ומכל שארית ישראל ומכל יהודה ובנימן וישבי ירושלם׃
10And they delivered it into the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and the workmen that wrought in the house of Jehovah gave it to mend and repair the house;
10On le remit entre les mains de ceux qui étaient chargés de faire exécuter l'ouvrage dans la maison de l'Eternel. Et ils l'employèrent pour ceux qui travaillaient aux réparations de la maison de l'Eternel,
10ויתנו על יד עשה המלאכה המפקדים בבית יהוה ויתנו אתו עושי המלאכה אשר עשים בבית יהוה לבדוק ולחזק הבית׃
11even to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
11pour les charpentiers et les maçons, pour les achats de pierres de taille et de bois destiné aux poutres et à la charpente des bâtiments qu'avaient détruits les rois de Juda.
11ויתנו לחרשים ולבנים לקנות אבני מחצב ועצים למחברות ולקרות את הבתים אשר השחיתו מלכי יהודה׃
12And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and [others of] the Levites, all that were skilful with instruments of music.
12Ces hommes agirent avec probité dans leur travail. Ils étaient placés sous l'inspection de Jachath et Abdias, Lévites d'entre les fils de Merari, et de Zacharie et Meschullam, d'entre les fils des Kehathites; tous ceux des Lévites qui étaient habiles musiciens surveillaient les manoeuvres
12והאנשים עשים באמונה במלאכה ועליהם מפקדים יחת ועבדיהו הלוים מן בני מררי וזכריה ומשלם מן בני הקהתים לנצח והלוים כל מבין בכלי שיר׃
13Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all that did the work in every manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.
13et dirigeaient tous les ouvriers occupés aux divers travaux; il y avait encore d'autres Lévites secrétaires, commissaires et portiers.
13ועל הסבלים ומנצחים לכל עשה מלאכה לעבודה ועבודה ומהלוים סופרים ושטרים ושוערים׃
14And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of Jehovah, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of Jehovah [given] by Moses.
14Au moment où l'on sortit l'argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de l'Eternel, le sacrificateur Hilkija trouva le livre de la loi de l'Eternel donnée par Moïse.
14ובהוציאם את הכסף המובא בית יהוה מצא חלקיהו הכהן את ספר תורת יהוה ביד משה׃
15And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
15Alors Hilkija prit la parole et dit à Schaphan, le secrétaire: J'ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison de l'Eternel. Et Hilkija donna le livre à Schaphan.
15ויען חלקיהו ויאמר אל שפן הסופר ספר התורה מצאתי בבית יהוה ויתן חלקיהו את הספר אל שפן׃
16And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they are doing.
16Schaphan apporta le livre au roi, et lui rendit aussi compte, en disant: Tes serviteurs ont fait tout ce qui leur a été commandé;
16ויבא שפן את הספר אל המלך וישב עוד את המלך דבר לאמר כל אשר נתן ביד עבדיך הם עשים׃
17And they have emptied out the money that was found in the house of Jehovah, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.
17ils ont amassé l'argent qui se trouvait dans la maison de l'Eternel, et l'ont remis entre les mains des inspecteurs et des ouvriers.
17ויתיכו את הכסף הנמצא בבית יהוה ויתנוהו על יד המפקדים ועל יד עושי המלאכה׃
18And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read therein before the king.
18Schaphan, le secrétaire, dit encore au roi: Le sacrificateur Hilkija m'a donné un livre. Et Schaphan le lut devant le roi.
18ויגד שפן הסופר למלך לאמר ספר נתן לי חלקיהו הכהן ויקרא בו שפן לפני המלך׃
19And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
19Lorsque le roi entendit les paroles de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements.
19ויהי כשמע המלך את דברי התורה ויקרע את בגדיו׃
20And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,
20Et le roi donna cet ordre à Hilkija, à Achikam, fils de Schaphan, à Abdon, fils de Michée, à Schaphan, le secrétaire, et à Asaja, serviteur du roi:
20ויצו המלך את חלקיהו ואת אחיקם בן שפן ואת עבדון בן מיכה ואת שפן הסופר ואת עשיה עבד המלך לאמר׃
21Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Jehovah, to do according unto all that is written in this book.
21Allez, consultez l'Eternel pour moi et pour ce qui reste en Israël et en Juda, au sujet des paroles de ce livre qu'on a trouvé; car grande est la colère de l'Eternel qui s'est répandue sur nous, parce que nos pères n'ont point observé la parole de l'Eternel et n'ont point mis en pratique tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre.
21לכו דרשו את יהוה בעדי ובעד הנשאר בישראל וביהודה על דברי הספר אשר נמצא כי גדולה חמת יהוה אשר נתכה בנו על אשר לא שמרו אבותינו את דבר יהוה לעשות ככל הכתוב על הספר הזה׃
22So Hilkiah, and they whom the king [had commanded], went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter;) and they spake to her to that effect.
22Hilkija et ceux qu'avait désignés le roi allèrent auprès de la prophétesse Hulda, femme de Schallum, fils de Thokehath, fils de Hasra, gardien des vêtements. Elle habitait à Jérusalem, dans l'autre quartier de la ville. Après qu'ils eurent exprimé ce qu'ils avaient à lui dire,
22וילך חלקיהו ואשר המלך אל חלדה הנביאה אשת שלם בן תוקהת בן חסרה שומר הבגדים והיא יושבת בירושלם במשנה וידברו אליה כזאת׃
23And she said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Tell ye the man that sent you unto me,
23elle leur répondit: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi:
23ותאמר להם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל אמרו לאיש אשר שלח אתכם אלי׃
24Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.
24Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je vais faire venir des malheurs sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, toutes les malédictions écrites dans le livre qu'on a lu devant le roi de Juda.
24כה אמר יהוה הנני מביא רעה על המקום הזה ועל יושביו את כל האלות הכתובות על הספר אשר קראו לפני מלך יהודה׃
25Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out upon this place, and it shall not be quenched.
25Parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et qu'ils ont offert des parfums à d'autres dieux, afin de m'irriter par tous les ouvrages de leurs mains, ma colère s'est répandue sur ce lieu, et elle ne s'éteindra point.
25תחת אשר עזבוני ויקטירו לאלהים אחרים למען הכעיסני בכל מעשי ידיהם ותתך חמתי במקום הזה ולא תכבה׃
26But unto the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: As touching the words which thou hast heard,
26Mais vous direz au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés pour consulter l'Eternel: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, au sujet des paroles que tu as entendues:
26ואל מלך יהודה השלח אתכם לדרוש ביהוה כה תאמרו אליו כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל הדברים אשר שמעת׃
27because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and hast humbled thyself before me, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith Jehovah.
27Parce que ton coeur a été touché, parce que tu t'es humilié devant Dieu en entendant ses paroles contre ce lieu et contre ses habitants, parce que tu t'es humilié devant moi, parce que tu as déchiré tes vêtements et que tu as pleuré devant moi, moi aussi, j'ai entendu, dit l'Eternel.
27יען רך לבבך ותכנע מלפני אלהים בשמעך את דבריו על המקום הזה ועל ישביו ותכנע לפני ותקרע את בגדיך ותבך לפני וגם אני שמעתי נאם יהוה׃
28Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof. And they brought back word to the king.
28Voici, je te recueillerai auprès de tes pères, tu seras recueilli en paix dans ton sépulcre, et tes yeux ne verront pas tous les malheurs que je ferai venir sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants. Ils rapportèrent au roi cette réponse.
28הנני אספך אל אבתיך ונאספת אל קברתיך בשלום ולא תראינה עיניך בכל הרעה אשר אני מביא על המקום הזה ועל ישביו וישיבו את המלך דבר׃
29Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
29Le roi fit assembler tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem.
29וישלח המלך ויאסף את כל זקני יהודה וירושלם׃
30And the king went up to the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of Jehovah.
30Puis il monta à la maison de l'Eternel avec tous les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, les sacrificateurs et les Lévites, et tout le peuple, depuis le plus grand jusqu'au plus petit. Il lut devant eux toutes les paroles du livre de l'alliance, qu'on avait trouvé dans la maison de l'Eternel.
30ויעל המלך בית יהוה וכל איש יהודה וישבי ירושלם והכהנים והלוים וכל העם מגדול ועד קטן ויקרא באזניהם את כל דברי ספר הברית הנמצא בית יהוה׃
31And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
31Le roi se tenait sur son estrade, et il traita alliance devant l'Eternel, s'engageant à suivre l'Eternel, et à observer ses ordonnances, ses préceptes et ses lois, de tout son coeur et de toute son âme, afin de mettre en pratique les paroles de l'alliance écrites dans ce livre.
31ויעמד המלך על עמדו ויכרת את הברית לפני יהוה ללכת אחרי יהוה ולשמור את מצותיו ועדותיו וחקיו בכל לבבו ובכל נפשו לעשות את דברי הברית הכתובים על הספר הזה׃
32And he caused all that were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand [to it]. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
32Et il fit entrer dans l'alliance tous ceux qui se trouvaient à Jérusalem et en Benjamin; et les habitants de Jérusalem agirent selon l'alliance de Dieu, du Dieu de leurs pères.
32ויעמד את כל הנמצא בירושלם ובנימן ויעשו ישבי ירושלם כברית אלהים אלהי אבותיהם׃
33And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Jehovah their God. All his days they departed not from following Jehovah, the God of their fathers.
33Josias fit disparaître toutes les abominations de tous les pays appartenant aux enfants d'Israël, et il obligea tous ceux qui se trouvaient en Israël à servir l'Eternel, leur Dieu. Pendant toute sa vie, ils ne se détournèrent point de l'Eternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.
33ויסר יאשיהו את כל התועבות מכל הארצות אשר לבני ישראל ויעבד את כל הנמצא בישראל לעבוד את יהוה אלהיהם כל ימיו לא סרו מאחרי יהוה אלהי אבותיהם׃
