¹Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in the whole of Achaia:

¹Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, et le frère Timothée, à l'Eglise de Dieu qui est à Corinthe, et à tous les saints qui sont dans toute l'Achaïe:

¹פולוס שליח ישוע המשיח ברצון אלהים וטימותיוס אחינו אל קהלת אלהים אשר בקורנתוס עם כל הקדשים אשר באכיא׃

²Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!

²חסד לכם ושלום מאת האלהים אבינו ואדנינו ישוע המשיח׃

³Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;

³Béni soit Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, le Père des miséricordes et le Dieu de toute consolation,

³ברוך האלהים ואבי אדנינו ישוע המשיח אב הרחמים ואלהי כל הנחמה׃

⁴who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

⁴qui nous console dans toutes nos afflictions, afin que, par la consolation dont nous sommes l'objet de la part de Dieu, nous puissions consoler ceux qui se trouvent dans quelque affliction!

⁴המנחם אתנו בכל לחצנו עד שנוכל לנחם הנלחצים בכל לחץ בנחמה אשר אנחנו מנחמים בה מאת האלהים׃

⁵For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.

⁵Car, de même que les souffrances de Christ abondent en nous, de même notre consolation abonde par Christ.

⁵כי כרב ענויי המשיח בנו כן תרבה נחמתנו על ידי המשיח׃

⁶But whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which worketh in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer:

⁶Si nous sommes affligés, c'est pour votre consolation et pour votre salut; si nous sommes consolés, c'est pour votre consolation, qui se réalise par la patience à supporter les mêmes souffrances que nous endurons.

⁶והנה אם נלחץ הוא לנחמתכם ולישועתכם אשר יראה כחה בסבלכם הענוים אשר נסבל אתן גם אנחנו ואם ננחם גם הוא לנחמתכם ולישועתכם׃

⁷and our hope for you is stedfast; knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort.

⁷Et notre espérance à votre égard est ferme, parce que nous savons que, si vous avez part aux souffrances, vous avez part aussi à la consolation.

⁷ותקותנו בעדכם נכונה היא באשר ידענו כי כאשר חלק לכם בענוים כן גם חלק לכם בנחמה׃

⁸For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell [us] in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

⁸Nous ne voulons pas, en effet, vous laisser ignorer, frères, au sujet de la tribulation qui nous est survenue en Asie, que nous avons été excessivement accablés, au delà de nos forces, de telle sorte que nous désespérions même de conserver la vie.

⁸כי לא נכחד מכם אחי את צרתנו אשר מצאתנו באסיא אשר כבדה עלינו עד למאד ויותר מכחנו עד כי נואשנו מן החיים׃

⁹yea, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead:

⁹Et nous regardions comme certain notre arrêt de mort, afin de ne pas placer notre confiance en nous-mêmes, mais de la placer en Dieu, qui ressuscite les morts.

⁹ואנחנו בלבבנו חרצנו לנו את המות למען לא נהיה בטחים בנפשנו כי אם באלהים המחיה את המתים׃

¹⁰who delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver: on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;

¹⁰C'est lui qui nous a délivrés et qui nous délivrera d'une telle mort, lui de qui nous espérons qu'il nous délivrera encore,

¹⁰אשר הצילנו ממות כזה ועודנו מציל ולו אנחנו מקוים כי יוסיף להצילנו׃

¹¹ye also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf.

¹¹vous-mêmes aussi nous assistant de vos prières, afin que la grâce obtenue pour nous par plusieurs soit pour plusieurs une occasion de rendre grâces à notre sujet.

¹¹בעזרכם אתנו בתפלתכם למען יודו רבים בעדנו על מתנת החסד שהיתה לנו על ידי רבים׃

¹²For our glorifying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

¹²Car ce qui fait notre gloire, c'est ce témoignage de notre conscience, que nous nous sommes conduits dans le monde, et surtout à votre égard, avec sainteté et pureté devant Dieu, non point avec une sagesse charnelle, mais avec la grâce de Dieu.

¹²כי זאת היא תהלתנו עדות לבבנו אשר בתם וישר אלהים התהלכנו בעולם וביותר אתכם ולא בחכמת הבשר כי אם בחסד אלהים׃

¹³For we write no other things unto you, than what ye read or even acknowledge, and I hope ye will acknowledge unto the end:

¹³Nous ne vous écrivons pas autre chose que ce que vous lisez, et ce que vous reconnaissez. Et j'espère que vous le reconnaîtrez jusqu'à la fin,

¹³כי לא נכתב לכם כי אם מה שאתם קראים או גם ידעים׃

¹⁴as also ye did acknowledge us in part, that we are your glorying, even as ye also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.

¹⁴comme vous avez déjà reconnu en partie que nous sommes votre gloire, de même que vous serez aussi la nôtre au jour du Seigneur Jésus.

¹⁴ואקוה כי כאשר ידעתם אתנו למקצת אף תדעו עד תכלית כי אנחנו תהלתכם כאשר גם אתם תהלתנו ביום אדנינו ישוע׃

¹⁵And in this confidence I was minded to come first unto you, that ye might have a second benefit;

¹⁵Dans cette persuasion, je voulais aller d'abord vers vous, afin que vous eussiez une double grâce;

¹⁵ובבטחון הזה חפצתי לבוא אליכם מראש למען תקבלו טובה פעמים׃

¹⁶and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judaea.

¹⁶je voulais passer chez vous pour me rendre en Macédoine, puis revenir de la Macédoine chez vous, et vous m'auriez fait accompagner en Judée.

¹⁶ולעבר בתוככם אל מקדוניא ולשוב ממקדוניא אליכם ואתם תשלחוני אל ארץ יהודה׃

¹⁷When I therefore was thus minded, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay?

¹⁷Est-ce que, en voulant cela, j'ai donc usé de légèreté? Ou bien, mes résolutions sont-elles des résolutions selon la chair, de sorte qu'il y ait en moi le oui et le non?

¹⁷ועתה הכי נמהר הייתי בעצתי אם אשר יעצתי לפי הבשר יעצתי והיה אצלי פעם הן הן ופעם לא לא׃

¹⁸But as God is faithful, our word toward you is not yea and nay.

¹⁸Aussi vrai que Dieu est fidèle, la parole que nous vous avons adressée n'a pas été oui et non.

¹⁸אכן נאמן האלהים כי דברנו אליכם לא היה הן ולא׃

¹⁹For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, [even] by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea.

¹⁹Car le Fils de Dieu, Jésus-Christ, qui a été prêché par nous au milieu de vous, par moi, et par Silvain, et par Timothée, n'a pas été oui et non, mais c'est oui qui a été en lui;

¹⁹כי בן האלהים ישוע המשיח הנקרא בתוככם על ידינו על ידי ועל ידי סלונוס וטימותיוס הוא לא היה הן ולא כי היו היה בו רק הן׃

²⁰For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us.

²⁰car, pour ce qui concerne toutes les promesses de Dieu, c'est en lui qu'est le oui; c'est pourquoi encore l'Amen par lui est prononcé par nous à la gloire de Dieu.

²⁰כי כל הבטחות האלהים כלן בו היו הן ובו היו אמן לכבוד האלהים על ידינו׃

²¹Now he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;

²¹Et celui qui nous affermit avec vous en Christ, et qui nous a oints, c'est Dieu,

²¹והמכונן אותנו אתכם במשיח ואשר משחנו הוא האלהים׃

²²who also sealed us, and gave [us] the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

²²lequel nous a aussi marqués d'un sceau et a mis dans nos coeurs les arrhes de l'Esprit.

²²אשר גם חתמנו ואשר נתן בלבנו את ערבון הרוח׃

²³But I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth.

²³Or, je prends Dieu à témoin sur mon âme, que c'est pour vous épargner que je ne suis plus allé à Corinthe;

²³ואני את אלהים אקרא להיות עד לנפשי כי בעבור היותי חס עליכם לא באתי עוד לקורנתוס׃

²⁴Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for in faith ye stand fast.

²⁴non pas que nous dominions sur votre foi, mais nous contribuons à votre joie, car vous êtes fermes dans la foi.

²⁴לא שנמשל באמונתכם כי אם עזרים אנחנו לשמחתכם כי באמונה עמדתם׃
