¹The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all they that know the truth;

¹L'ancien, à Kyria l'élue et à ses enfants, que j'aime dans la vérité, -et ce n'est pas moi seul qui les aime, mais aussi tous ceux qui ont connu la vérité, -

¹הזקן אל הגבירה הבחירה ואל בניה אשר אני אהב אתם באמת ולא אני לבדי כי אם גם כל ידעי האמת׃

²for the truth's sake which abideth in us, and it shall be with us for ever:

²cause de la vérité qui demeure en nous, et qui sera avec nous pour l'éternité:

²למען האמת העמדת בקרבנו וגם תהיה עמנו לעולם׃

³Grace, mercy, peace shall be with us, from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

³que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix soient avec vous de la part de Dieu le Père et de la part de Jésus-Christ, le Fils du Père, dans la vérité et la charité!

³יהי עמכם חסד ורחמים ושלום מאת האלהים אבינו ומאת אדנינו ישוע המשיח בן האב באמת ובאהבה׃

⁴I rejoice greatly that I have found [certain] of thy children walking in truth, even as we received commandment from the Father.

⁴J'ai été fort réjoui de trouver de tes enfants qui marchent dans la vérité, selon le commandement que nous avons reçu du Père.

⁴שמחתי למאד כי מצאתי מבניך מתהלכים באמת כמצוה אשר קבלנו מאת האב׃

⁵And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

⁵Et maintenant, ce que je te demande, Kyria, -non comme te prescrivant un commandement nouveau, mais celui que nous avons eu dès le commencement, -c'est que nous nous aimions les uns les autres.

⁵ועתה מבקש אני ממך הגבירה ולא ככתב אליך מצוה חדשה כי אם את אשר היתה לנו מראש לאהבה איש את רעהו׃

⁶And this is love, that we should walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, even as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it.

⁶Et l'amour consiste à marcher selon ses commandements. C'est là le commandement dans lequel vous devez marcher, comme vous l'avez appris dès le commencement.

⁶וזאת היא האהבה אשר נתהלך במצותיו זאת היא המצוה אשר שמעתם מראש להתהלך בה׃

⁷For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, [even] they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

⁷Car plusieurs séducteurs sont entrés dans le monde, qui ne confessent point que Jésus-Christ est venu en chair. Celui qui est tel, c'est le séducteur et l'antéchrist.

⁷כי מתעים רבים באו לעולם אשר אינם מודים בישוע המשיח כי בא בבשר זה הוא המתעה וצר המשיח׃

⁸Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which we have wrought, but that ye receive a full reward.

⁸Prenez garde à vous-mêmes, afin que vous ne perdiez pas le fruit de votre travail, mais que vous receviez une pleine récompense.

⁸השמרו לכם פן תאבד ממנו פעלתנו כי אם נקח משכרתנו שלמה׃

⁹Whosoever goeth onward and abideth not in the teaching of Christ, hath not God: he that abideth in the teaching, the same hath both the Father and the Son.

⁹Quiconque va plus loin et ne demeure pas dans la doctrine de Christ n'a point Dieu; celui qui demeure dans cette doctrine a le Père et le Fils.

⁹כל העבר על תורת המשיח ואיננו עמד בה אין לו אלהים והעמד בתורת המשיח יש לו גם האב גם הבן׃

¹⁰If any one cometh unto you, and bringeth not this teaching, receive him not into [your] house, and give him no greeting:

¹⁰Si quelqu'un vient à vous et n'apporte pas cette doctrine, ne le recevez pas dans votre maison, et ne lui dites pas: Salut!

¹⁰כל הבא אליכם ולא יביא את התורה הזאת לא תאספו אתו הביתה ולא תשאלו לו לשלום׃

¹¹for he that giveth him greeting partaketh in his evil works.

¹¹car celui qui lui dit: Salut! participe à ses mauvaises oeuvres.

¹¹כי השאל בשלומו הוא משתתף במעשיו הרעים׃

¹²Having many things to write unto you, I would not [write them] with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and to speak face to face, that your joy may be made full.

¹²Quoique j'eusse beaucoup de choses à vous écrire, je n'ai pas voulu le faire avec le papier et l'encre; mais j'espère aller chez vous, et vous parler bouche à bouche, afin que notre joie soit parfaite.

¹²הרבה לי לכתב אליכם ולא חפצתי בניר ובדיו כי אקוה לבוא אליכם ולדבר פה אל פה למען תהיה שמחתנו שלמה׃

¹³The children of thine elect sister salute thee.

¹³Les enfants de ta soeur l'élue te saluent.

¹³בני אחותך הבחירה שאלים לשלומך אמן׃
