¹Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

¹Josias avait huit ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Jedida, fille d'Adaja, de Botskath.

¹בן שמנה שנה יאשיהו במלכו ושלשים ואחת שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו ידידה בת עדיה מבצקת׃

²And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

²Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Eternel, et il marcha dans toute la voie de David, son père; il ne s'en détourna ni à droite ni à gauche.

²ויעש הישר בעיני יהוה וילך בכל דרך דוד אביו ולא סר ימין ושמאול׃

³And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying,

³La dix-huitième année du roi Josias, le roi envoya dans la maison de l'Eternel Schaphan, le secrétaire, fils d'Atsalia, fils de Meschullam. Il lui dit:

³ויהי בשמנה עשרה שנה למלך יאשיהו שלח המלך את שפן בן אצליהו בן משלם הספר בית יהוה לאמר׃

⁴Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the money which is brought into the house of Jehovah, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people:

⁴Monte vers Hilkija, le souverain sacrificateur, et qu'il amasse l'argent qui a été apporté dans la maison de l'Eternel et que ceux qui ont la garde du seuil ont recueilli du peuple.

⁴עלה אל חלקיהו הכהן הגדול ויתם את הכסף המובא בית יהוה אשר אספו שמרי הסף מאת העם׃

⁵and let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and let them give it to the workmen that are in the house of Jehovah, to repair the breaches of the house,

⁵On remettra cet argent entre les mains de ceux qui sont chargés de faire exécuter l'ouvrage dans la maison de l'Eternel. Et ils l'emploieront pour ceux qui travaillent aux réparations de la maison de l'Eternel,

⁵ויתנה על יד עשי המלאכה המפקדים בבית יהוה ויתנו אתו לעשי המלאכה אשר בבית יהוה לחזק בדק הבית׃

⁶unto the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

⁶pour les charpentiers, les manoeuvres et les maçons, pour les achats de bois et de pierres de taille nécessaires aux réparations de la maison.

⁶לחרשים ולבנים ולגדרים ולקנות עצים ואבני מחצב לחזק את הבית׃

⁷Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.

⁷Mais on ne leur demandera pas de compte pour l'argent remis entre leurs mains, car ils agissent avec probité.

⁷אך לא יחשב אתם הכסף הנתן על ידם כי באמונה הם עשים׃

⁸And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

⁸Alors Hilkija, le souverain sacrificateur, dit à Schaphan, le secrétaire: J'ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison de l'Eternel. Et Hilkija donna le livre à Schaphan, et Schaphan le lut.

⁸ויאמר חלקיהו הכהן הגדול על שפן הספר ספר התורה מצאתי בבית יהוה ויתן חלקיה את הספר אל שפן ויקראהו׃

⁹And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah.

⁹Puis Schaphan, le secrétaire, alla rendre compte au roi, et dit: Tes serviteurs ont amassé l'argent qui se trouvait dans la maison, et l'ont remis entre les mains de ceux qui sont chargés de faire exécuter l'ouvrage dans la maison de l'Eternel.

⁹ויבא שפן הספר אל המלך וישב את המלך דבר ויאמר התיכו עבדיך את הכסף הנמצא בבית ויתנהו על יד עשי המלאכה המפקדים בית יהוה׃

¹⁰And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

¹⁰Schaphan, le secrétaire, dit encore au roi: Le sacrificateur Hilkija m'a donné un livre. Et Schaphan le lut devant le roi.

¹⁰ויגד שפן הספר למלך לאמר ספר נתן לי חלקיה הכהן ויקראהו שפן לפני המלך׃

¹¹And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

¹¹Lorsque le roi entendit les paroles du livre de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements.

¹¹ויהי כשמע המלך את דברי ספר התורה ויקרע את בגדיו׃

¹²And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,

¹²Et le roi donna cet ordre au sacrificateur Hilkija, à Achikam, fils de Schaphan, à Acbor, fils de Michée, à Schaphan, le secrétaire, et à Asaja, serviteur du roi:

¹²ויצו המלך את חלקיה הכהן ואת אחיקם בן שפן ואת עכבור בן מיכיה ואת שפן הספר ואת עשיה עבד המלך לאמר׃

¹³Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

¹³Allez, consultez l'Eternel pour moi, pour le peuple, et pour tout Juda, au sujet des paroles de ce livre qu'on a trouvé; car grande est la colère de l'Eternel, qui s'est enflammée contre nous, parce que nos pères n'ont point obéi aux paroles de ce livre et n'ont point mis en pratique tout ce qui nous y est prescrit.

¹³לכו דרשו את יהוה בעדי ובעד העם ובעד כל יהודה על דברי הספר הנמצא הזה כי גדולה חמת יהוה אשר היא נצתה בנו על אשר לא שמעו אבתינו על דברי הספר הזה לעשות ככל הכתוב עלינו׃

¹⁴So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they communed with her.

¹⁴Le sacrificateur Hilkija, Achikam, Acbor, Schaphan et Asaja, allèrent auprès de la prophétesse Hulda, femme de Schallum, fils de Thikva, fils de Harhas, gardien des vêtements. Elle habitait à Jérusalem, dans l'autre quartier de la ville. Après qu'ils lui eurent parlé,

¹⁴וילך חלקיהו הכהן ואחיקם ועכבור ושפן ועשיה אל חלדה הנביאה אשת שלם בן תקוה בן חרחס שמר הבגדים והיא ישבת בירושלם במשנה וידברו אליה׃

¹⁵And she said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Tell ye the man that sent you unto me,

¹⁵elle leur dit: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi:

¹⁵ותאמר אליהם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל אמרו לאיש אשר שלח אתכם אלי׃

¹⁶Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read.

¹⁶Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je vais faire venir des malheurs sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, selon toutes les paroles du livre qu'a lu le roi de Juda.

¹⁶כה אמר יהוה הנני מביא רעה אל המקום הזה ועל ישביו את כל דברי הספר אשר קרא מלך יהודה׃

¹⁷Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.

¹⁷Parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et qu'ils ont offert des parfums à d'autres dieux, afin de m'irriter par tous les ouvrages de leurs mains, ma colère s'est enflammée contre ce lieu, et elle ne s'éteindra point.

¹⁷תחת אשר עזבוני ויקטרו לאלהים אחרים למען הכעיסני בכל מעשה ידיהם ונצתה חמתי במקום הזה ולא תכבה׃

¹⁸But unto the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: As touching the words which thou hast heard,

¹⁸Mais vous direz au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyés pour consulter l'Eternel: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, au sujet des paroles que tu as entendues:

¹⁸ואל מלך יהודה השלח אתכם לדרש את יהוה כה תאמרו אליו כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל הדברים אשר שמעת׃

¹⁹because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before Jehovah, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith Jehovah.

¹⁹Parce que ton coeur a été touché, parce que tu t'es humilié devant l'Eternel en entendant ce que j'ai prononcé contre ce lieu et contre ses habitants, qui seront un objet d'épouvante et de malédiction, et parce que tu as déchiré tes vêtements et que tu as pleuré devant moi, moi aussi, j'ai entendu, dit l'Eternel.

¹⁹יען רך לבבך ותכנע מפני יהוה בשמעך אשר דברתי על המקום הזה ועל ישביו להיות לשמה ולקללה ותקרע את בגדיך ותבכה לפני וגם אנכי שמעתי נאם יהוה׃

²⁰Therefore, behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

²⁰C'est pourquoi, voici, je te recueillerai auprès de tes pères, tu seras recueilli en paix dans ton sépulcre, et tes yeux ne verront pas tous les malheurs que je ferai venir sur ce lieu. Ils rapportèrent au roi cette réponse.

²⁰לכן הנני אספך על אבתיך ונאספת אל קברתיך בשלום ולא תראינה עיניך בכל הרעה אשר אני מביא על המקום הזה וישיבו את המלך דבר׃
