1And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.
1Le roi Josias fit assembler auprès de lui tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem.
1וישלח המלך ויאספו אליו כל זקני יהודה וירושלם׃
2And the king went up to the house of Jehovah, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of Jehovah.
2Puis il monta à la maison de l'Eternel, avec tous les hommes de Juda et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, les sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tout le peuple, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand. Il lut devant eux toutes les paroles du livre de l'alliance, qu'on avait trouvé dans la maison de l'Eternel.
2ויעל המלך בית יהוה וכל איש יהודה וכל ישבי ירושלם אתו והכהנים והנביאים וכל העם למקטן ועד גדול ויקרא באזניהם את כל דברי ספר הברית הנמצא בבית יהוה׃
3And the king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all [his] heart, and all [his] soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book: and all the people stood to the covenant.
3Le roi se tenait sur l'estrade, et il traita alliance devant l'Eternel, s'engageant à suivre l'Eternel, et à observer ses ordonnances, ses préceptes et ses lois, de tout son coeur et de toute son âme, afin de mettre en pratique les paroles de cette alliance, écrites dans ce livre. Et tout le peuple entra dans l'alliance.
3ויעמד המלך על העמוד ויכרת את הברית לפני יהוה ללכת אחר יהוה ולשמר מצותיו ואת עדותיו ואת חקתיו בכל לב ובכל נפש להקים את דברי הברית הזאת הכתבים על הספר הזה ויעמד כל העם בברית׃
4And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the host of heaven, and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beth-el.
4Le roi ordonna à Hilkija, le souverain sacrificateur, aux sacrificateurs du second ordre, et à ceux qui gardaient le seuil, de sortir du temple de l'Eternel tous les ustensiles qui avaient été faits pour Baal, pour Astarté, et pour toute l'armée des cieux; et il les brûla hors de Jérusalem, dans les champs du Cédron, et en fit porter la poussière à Béthel.
4ויצו המלך את חלקיהו הכהן הגדול ואת כהני המשנה ואת שמרי הסף להוציא מהיכל יהוה את כל הכלים העשוים לבעל ולאשרה ולכל צבא השמים וישרפם מחוץ לירושלם בשדמות קדרון ונשא את עפרם בית אל׃
5And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
5Il chassa les prêtres des idoles, établis par les rois de Juda pour brûler des parfums sur les hauts lieux dans les villes de Juda et aux environs de Jérusalem, et ceux qui offraient des parfums à Baal, au soleil, à la lune, au zodiaque et à toute l'armée des cieux.
5והשבית את הכמרים אשר נתנו מלכי יהודה ויקטר בבמות בערי יהודה ומסבי ירושלם ואת המקטרים לבעל לשמש ולירח ולמזלות ולכל צבא השמים׃
6And he brought out the Asherah from the house of Jehovah, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast the dust thereof upon the graves of the common people.
6Il sortit de la maison de l'Eternel l'idole d'Astarté, qu'il transporta hors de Jérusalem vers le torrent de Cédron; il la brûla au torrent de Cédron et la réduisit en poussière, et il en jeta la poussière sur les sépulcres des enfants du peuple.
6ויצא את האשרה מבית יהוה מחוץ לירושלם אל נחל קדרון וישרף אתה בנחל קדרון וידק לעפר וישלך את עפרה על קבר בני העם׃
7And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were in the house of Jehovah, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.
7Il abattit les maisons des prostitués qui étaient dans la maison de l'Eternel, et où les femmes tissaient des tentes pour Astarté.
7ויתץ את בתי הקדשים אשר בבית יהוה אשר הנשים ארגות שם בתים לאשרה׃
8And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-sheba; and he brake down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.
8Il fit venir tous les prêtres des villes de Juda; il souilla les hauts lieux où les prêtres brûlaient des parfums, depuis Guéba jusqu'à Beer-Schéba; et il renversa les hauts lieux des portes, celui qui était à l'entrée de la porte de Josué, chef de la ville, et celui qui était à gauche de la porte de la ville.
8ויבא את כל הכהנים מערי יהודה ויטמא את הבמות אשר קטרו שמה הכהנים מגבע עד באר שבע ונתץ את במות השערים אשר פתח שער יהושע שר העיר אשר על שמאול איש בשער העיר׃
9Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they did eat unleavened bread among their brethren.
9Toutefois les prêtres des hauts lieux ne montaient pas à l'autel de l'Eternel à Jérusalem, mais ils mangeaient des pains sans levain au milieu de leurs frères.
9אך לא יעלו כהני הבמות אל מזבח יהוה בירושלם כי אם אכלו מצות בתוך אחיהם׃
10And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.
10Le roi souilla Topheth dans la vallée des fils de Hinnom, afin que personne ne fît plus passer son fils ou sa fille par le feu en l'honneur de Moloc.
10וטמא את התפת אשר בגי בני הנם לבלתי להעביר איש את בנו ואת בתו באש למלך׃
11And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the precincts; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.
11Il fit disparaître de l'entrée de la maison de l'Eternel les chevaux que les rois de Juda avaient consacrés au soleil, près de la chambre de l'eunuque Nethan-Mélec, qui demeurait dans le faubourg; et il brûla au feu les chars du soleil.
11וישבת את הסוסים אשר נתנו מלכי יהודה לשמש מבא בית יהוה אל לשכת נתן מלך הסריס אשר בפרורים ואת מרכבות השמש שרף באש׃
12And the altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Jehovah, did the king break down, and beat [them] down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.
12Le roi démolit les autels qui étaient sur le toit de la chambre haute d'Achaz et que les rois de Juda avaient faits, et les autels qu'avait faits Manassé dans les deux parvis de la maison de l'Eternel; après les avoir brisés et enlevés de là, il en jeta la poussière dans le torrent de Cédron.
12ואת המזבחות אשר על הגג עלית אחז אשר עשו מלכי יהודה ואת המזבחות אשר עשה מנשה בשתי חצרות בית יהוה נתץ המלך וירץ משם והשליך את עפרם אל נחל קדרון׃
13And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.
13Le roi souilla les hauts lieux qui étaient en face de Jérusalem, sur la droite de la montagne de perdition, et que Salomon, roi d'Israël, avait bâtis à Astarté, l'abomination des Sidoniens, à Kemosch, l'abomination de Moab, et à Milcom, l'abomination des fils d'Ammon.
13ואת הבמות אשר על פני ירושלם אשר מימין להר המשחית אשר בנה שלמה מלך ישראל לעשתרת שקץ צידנים ולכמוש שקץ מואב ולמלכם תועבת בני עמון טמא המלך׃
14And he brake in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Asherim, and filled their places with the bones of men.
14Il brisa les statues et abattit les idoles, et il remplit d'ossements d'hommes la place qu'elles occupaient.
14ושבר את המצבות ויכרת את האשרים וימלא את מקומם עצמות אדם׃
15Moreover the altar that was at Beth-el, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he brake down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.
15Il renversa aussi l'autel qui était à Béthel, et le haut lieu qu'avait fait Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, qui avait fait pécher Israël; il brûla le haut lieu et le réduisit en poussière, et il brûla l'idole.
15וגם את המזבח אשר בבית אל הבמה אשר עשה ירבעם בן נבט אשר החטיא את ישראל גם את המזבח ההוא ואת הבמה נתץ וישרף את הבמה הדק לעפר ושרף אשרה׃
16And as Josiah turned himself, he spied the sepulchres that were there in the mount; and he sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of Jehovah which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.
16Josias, s'étant tourné et ayant vu les sépulcres qui étaient là dans la montagne, envoya prendre les ossements des sépulcres, et il les brûla sur l'autel et le souilla, selon la parole de l'Eternel prononcée par l'homme de Dieu qui avait annoncé ces choses.
16ויפן יאשיהו וירא את הקברים אשר שם בהר וישלח ויקח את העצמות מן הקברים וישרף על המזבח ויטמאהו כדבר יהוה אשר קרא איש האלהים אשר קרא את הדברים האלה׃
17Then he said, What monument is that which I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Beth-el.
17Il dit: Quel est ce monument que je vois? Les gens de la ville lui répondirent: C'est le sépulcre de l'homme de Dieu, qui est venu de Juda, et qui a crié contre l'autel de Béthel ces choses que tu as accomplies.
17ויאמר מה הציון הלז אשר אני ראה ויאמרו אליו אנשי העיר הקבר איש האלהים אשר בא מיהודה ויקרא את הדברים האלה אשר עשית על המזבח בית אל׃
18And he said, Let him be; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.
18Et il dit: Laissez-le; que personne ne remue ses os! On conserva ainsi ses os avec les os du prophète qui était venu de Samarie.
18ויאמר הניחו לו איש אל ינע עצמתיו וימלטו עצמתיו את עצמות הנביא אשר בא משמרון׃
19And all the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke [Jehovah] to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Beth-el.
19Josias fit encore disparaître toutes les maisons des hauts lieux, qui étaient dans les villes de Samarie, et qu'avaient faites les rois d'Israël pour irriter l'Eternel; il fit à leur égard entièrement comme il avait fait à Béthel.
19וגם את כל בתי הבמות אשר בערי שמרון אשר עשו מלכי ישראל להכעיס הסיר יאשיהו ויעש להם ככל המעשים אשר עשה בבית אל׃
20And he slew all the priests of the high places that were there, upon the altars, and burned men's bones upon them; and he returned to Jerusalem.
20Il immola sur les autels tous les prêtres des hauts lieux, qui étaient là, et il y brûla des ossements d'hommes. Puis il retourna à Jérusalem.
20ויזבח את כל כהני הבמות אשר שם על המזבחות וישרף את עצמות אדם עליהם וישב ירושלם׃
21And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover unto Jehovah your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.
21Le roi donna cet ordre à tout le peuple: Célébrez la Pâque en l'honneur de l'Eternel, votre Dieu, comme il est écrit dans ce livre de l'alliance.
21ויצו המלך את כל העם לאמר עשו פסח ליהוה אלהיכם ככתוב על ספר הברית הזה׃
22Surely there was not kept such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;
22Aucune Pâque pareille à celle-ci n'avait été célébrée depuis le temps où les juges jugeaient Israël et pendant tous les jours des rois d'Israël et des rois de Juda.
22כי לא נעשה כפסח הזה מימי השפטים אשר שפטו את ישראל וכל ימי מלכי ישראל ומלכי יהודה׃
23but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah was this passover kept to Jehovah in Jerusalem.
23Ce fut la dix-huitième année du roi Josias qu'on célébra cette Pâque en l'honneur de l'Eternel à Jérusalem.
23כי אם בשמנה עשרה שנה למלך יאשיהו נעשה הפסח הזה ליהוה בירושלם׃
24Moreover them that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of Jehovah.
24De plus, Josias fit disparaître ceux qui évoquaient les esprits et ceux qui prédisaient l'avenir, et les théraphim, et les idoles, et toutes les abominations qui se voyaient dans le pays de Juda et à Jérusalem, afin de mettre en pratique les paroles de la loi, écrites dans le livre que le sacrificateur Hilkija avait trouvé dans la maison de l'Eternel.
24וגם את האבות ואת הידענים ואת התרפים ואת הגללים ואת כל השקצים אשר נראו בארץ יהודה ובירושלם בער יאשיהו למען הקים את דברי התורה הכתבים על הספר אשר מצא חלקיהו הכהן בית יהוה׃
25And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to Jehovah with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
25Avant Josias, il n'y eut point de roi qui, comme lui, revînt à l'Eternel de tout son coeur, de toute son âme et de toute sa force, selon toute la loi de Moïse; et après lui, il n'en a point paru de semblable.
25וכמהו לא היה לפניו מלך אשר שב אל יהוה בכל לבבו ובכל נפשו ובכל מאדו ככל תורת משה ואחריו לא קם כמהו׃
26Notwithstanding, Jehovah turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations wherewith Manasseh had provoked him.
26Toutefois l'Eternel ne se désista point de l'ardeur de sa grande colère dont il était enflammé contre Juda, à cause de tout ce qu'avait fait Manassé pour l'irriter.
26אך לא שב יהוה מחרון אפו הגדול אשר חרה אפו ביהודה על כל הכעסים אשר הכעיסו מנשה׃
27And Jehovah said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
27Et l'Eternel dit: J'ôterai aussi Juda de devant ma face comme j'ai ôté Israël, et je rejetterai cette ville de Jérusalem que j'avais choisie, et la maison de laquelle j'avais dit: Là sera mon nom.
27ויאמר יהוה גם את יהודה אסיר מעל פני כאשר הסרתי את ישראל ומאסתי את העיר הזאת אשר בחרתי את ירושלם ואת הבית אשר אמרתי יהיה שמי שם׃
28Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
28Le reste des actions de Josias, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
28ויתר דברי יאשיהו וכל אשר עשה הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה׃
29In his days Pharaoh-necoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and [Pharaoh-necoh] slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.
29De son temps, Pharaon Néco, roi d'Egypte, monta contre le roi d'Assyrie, vers le fleuve de l'Euphrate. Le roi Josias marcha à sa rencontre; et Pharaon le tua à Meguiddo, dès qu'il le vit.
29בימיו עלה פרעה נכה מלך מצרים על מלך אשור על נהר פרת וילך המלך יאשיהו לקראתו וימיתהו במגדו כראתו אתו׃
30And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father's stead.
30Ses serviteurs l'emportèrent mort sur un char; ils l'amenèrent de Meguiddo à Jérusalem, et ils l'enterrèrent dans son sépulcre. Et le peuple du pays prit Joachaz, fils de Josias; ils l'oignirent, et le firent roi à la place de son père.
30וירכבהו עבדיו מת ממגדו ויבאהו ירושלם ויקברהו בקברתו ויקח עם הארץ את יהואחז בן יאשיהו וימשחו אתו וימליכו אתו תחת אביו׃
31Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
31Joachaz avait vingt-trois ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna trois mois à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Hamuthal, fille de Jérémie, de Libna.
31בן עשרים ושלש שנה יהואחז במלכו ושלשה חדשים מלך בירושלם ושם אמו חמוטל בת ירמיהו מלבנה׃
32And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.
32Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, entièrement comme avaient fait ses pères.
32ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה ככל אשר עשו אבתיו׃
33And Pharaoh-necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
33Pharaon Néco l'enchaîna à Ribla, dans le pays de Hamath, pour qu'il ne régnât plus à Jérusalem; et il mit sur le pays une contribution de cent talents d'argent et d'un talent d'or.
33ויאסרהו פרעה נכה ברבלה בארץ חמת במלך בירושלם ויתן ענש על הארץ מאה ככר כסף וככר זהב׃
34And Pharaoh-necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim: but he took Jehoahaz away; and he came to Egypt, and died there.
34Et Pharaon Néco établit roi Eliakim, fils de Josias, à la place de Josias, son père, et il changea son nom en celui de Jojakim. Il prit Joachaz, qui alla en Egypte et y mourut.
34וימלך פרעה נכה את אליקים בן יאשיהו תחת יאשיהו אביו ויסב את שמו יהויקים ואת יהואחז לקח ויבא מצרים וימת שם׃
35And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh-necoh.
35Jojakim donna à Pharaon l'argent et l'or; mais il taxa le pays pour fournir cet argent, d'après l'ordre de Pharaon; il détermina la part de chacun et exigea du peuple du pays l'argent et l'or qu'il devait livrer à Pharaon Néco.
35והכסף והזהב נתן יהויקים לפרעה אך העריך את הארץ לתת את הכסף על פי פרעה איש כערכו נגש את הכסף ואת הזהב את עם הארץ לתת לפרעה נכה׃
36Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.
36Jojakim avait vingt-cinq ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna onze ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Zebudda, fille de Pedaja, de Ruma.
36בן עשרים וחמש שנה יהויקים במלכו ואחת עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו זבידה בת פדיה מן רומה׃
37And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers had done.
37Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Eternel, entièrement comme avaient fait ses pères.
37ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה ככל אשר עשו אבתיו׃
