¹Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and [the] Saviour Jesus Christ:

¹Simon Pierre, serviteur et apôtre de Jésus-Christ, à ceux qui ont reçu en partage une foi du même prix que la nôtre, par la justice de notre Dieu et du Sauveur Jésus-Christ:

¹שמעון פטרוס עבד ישוע המשיח ושליחו אל אשר קבלו אמונה יקרה כשלנו בצדקת אלהינו ומושיענו ישוע המשיח׃

²Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

²que la grâce et la paix vous soient multipliées par la connaissance de Dieu et de Jésus notre Seigneur!

²חסד ושלום יהיו לכם למכביר בדעת האלהים וישוע אדנינו׃

³seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue;

³Comme sa divine puissance nous a donné tout ce qui contribue à la vie et à la piété, au moyen de la connaissance de celui qui nous a appelés par sa propre gloire et par sa vertu,

³באשר גבורתו האלהית נתנה לנו את כל אשר לחיים ולחסידות על ידי דעת הקורא אתנו בכבודו וחילו׃

⁴whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in that world by lust.

⁴lesquelles nous assurent de sa part les plus grandes et les plus précieuses promesses, afin que par elles vous deveniez participants de la nature divine, en fuyant la corruption qui existe dans le monde par la convoitise,

⁴אשר בהם נתן לנו הבטחות גדלות מאד ויקרות למען תקחו על ידן חלק בטבע אלהים בהמלטכם מכליון התאוה אשר בעולם׃

⁵Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in [your] virtue knowledge;

⁵à cause de cela même, faites tous vos efforts pour joindre à votre foi la vertu, à la vertu la science,

⁵בעבור זאת השתדלו להעמיד באמונתכם את הצדקה ובצדקה את הדעת׃

⁶and in [your] knowledge self-control; and in [your] self-control patience; and in [your] patience godliness;

⁶à la science la tempérance, à la tempérance la patience, à la patience la piété,

⁶ובדעת את הפרישות ובפרישות את הסבלנות ובסבלנות את החסידות׃

⁷and in [your] godliness brotherly kindness; and in [your] brotherly kindness love.

⁷à la piété l'amour fraternel, à l'amour fraternel la charité.

⁷ובחסידות את האחוה ובאחוה את האהבה׃

⁸For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸Car si ces choses sont en vous, et y sont avec abondance, elles ne vous laisseront point oisifs ni stériles pour la connaissance de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.

⁸כי אם אלה תמצאנה ותרבינה בכם לא תתנה אתכם להיות בטלים ובלא עשות פרי לדעת אדנינו ישוע המשיח׃

⁹For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

⁹Mais celui en qui ces choses ne sont point est aveugle, il ne voit pas de loin, et il a mis en oubli la purification de ses anciens péchés.

⁹כי האיש אשר אין אלה לו עור הוא קצר הראות ושכח את טהרתו מחטאתיו הראשנות׃

¹⁰Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:

¹⁰C'est pourquoi, frères, appliquez-vous d'autant plus à affermir votre vocation et votre élection; car, en faisant cela, vous ne broncherez jamais.

¹⁰לכן אחי הוסיפו והשתדלו לחזק את קריאתכם ובחירתכם כי בעשותכם זאת כשול לא תכשלו׃

¹¹for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

¹¹C'est ainsi, en effet, que l'entrée dans le royaume éternel de notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ vous sera pleinement accordée.

¹¹כי כן יפתח לפניכם לרוחה המבוא אל מלכות עולם אשר לאדנינו ומושיענו ישוע המשיח׃

¹²Wherefore I shall be ready always to put you in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the truth which is with [you].

¹²Voilà pourquoi je prendrai soin de vous rappeler ces choses, bien que vous les sachiez et que vous soyez affermis dans la vérité présente.

¹²על כן לא אחדל להזכירכם על אלה בכל עת גם כי ידעתם והתכוננתם באמת אשר היא לפנינו׃

¹³And I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

¹³Et je regarde comme un devoir, aussi longtemps que je suis dans cette tente, de vous tenir en éveil par des avertissements,

¹³ואחשב כי נכון להזכיר ולהעיר אתכם כל ימי היותי במשכן הזה׃

¹⁴knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle cometh swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ signified unto me.

¹⁴car je sais que je la quitterai subitement, ainsi que notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ me l'a fait connaître.

¹⁴באשר ידעתי כי מהר יעתק משכני כאשר גם גלה לי אדנינו ישוע המשיח׃

¹⁵Yea, I will give diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to call these things to remembrance.

¹⁵Mais j'aurai soin qu'après mon départ vous puissiez toujours vous souvenir de ces choses.

¹⁵ואשתדל שיהיה לכם תמיד גם אחרי פטירתי זכרון הדברים האלה׃

¹⁶For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

¹⁶Ce n'est pas, en effet, en suivant des fables habilement conçues, que nous vous avons fait connaître la puissance et l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, mais c'est comme ayant vu sa majesté de nos propres yeux.

¹⁶כי הודענו אתכם גבורת אדנינו ישוע המשיח ובאו לא בלכתנו אחרי הגדות מחכמות כי אם ראות היו עינינו את גדלתו׃

¹⁷For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased:

¹⁷Car il a reçu de Dieu le Père honneur et gloire, quand la gloire magnifique lui fit entendre une voix qui disait: Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé, en qui j'ai mis toute mon affection.

¹⁷כי לקח מאת אלהים האב יקר וכבוד בבא אליו קול מתוך הדרת כבודו לאמר זה בני ידידי רצתה נפשי בו׃

¹⁸and this voice we [ourselves] heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.

¹⁸Et nous avons entendu cette voix venant du ciel, lorsque nous étions avec lui sur la sainte montagne.

¹⁸ואת הקול הזה שמענו באזנינו יצא משמים בהיותנו עמו בהר הקדש׃

¹⁹And we have the word of prophecy [made] more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

¹⁹Et nous tenons pour d'autant plus certaine la parole prophétique, à laquelle vous faites bien de prêter attention, comme à une lampe qui brille dans un lieu obscur, jusqu'à ce que le jour vienne à paraître et que l'étoile du matin se lève dans vos coeurs;

¹⁹ועתה דבר הנבואה יותר קים אתנו והטיבתם עשות אשר שתם לבכם אליו כמו אל נר מאיר במקום אפל עד כי יבקע אור היום וזרח כוכב הנגה בלבבכם׃

²⁰knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.

²⁰sachant tout d'abord vous-mêmes qu'aucune prophétie de l'Ecriture ne peut être un objet d'interprétation particulière,

²⁰וזאת תדעו ראשונה אשר כל נבואת המקרא איננה תלה בפתרון אדם מלבו׃

²¹For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

²¹car ce n'est pas par une volonté d'homme qu'une prophétie a jamais été apportée, mais c'est poussés par le Saint-Esprit que des hommes ont parlé de la part de Dieu.

²¹כי מעולם לא יצאה נבואה ברצון האדם כי אם ברוח הקדש אשר נשאם דברו אנשי אלהים הקדושים׃
