¹But there arose false prophets also among the people, as among you also there shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

¹Il y a eu parmi le peuple de faux prophètes, et il y aura de même parmi vous de faux docteurs, qui introduiront des sectes pernicieuses, et qui, reniant le maître qui les a rachetés, attireront sur eux une ruine soudaine.

¹וגם נביאי שקר היו בעם כאשר יהיו גם בכם מורי שקר אשר יכניסו כתות משחיתות ובכחשם במשל אשר קנם יביאו על נפשם כליון פתאם׃

²And many shall follow their lascivious doings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of.

²Plusieurs les suivront dans leurs dissolutions, et la voie de la vérité sera calomniée à cause d'eux.

²ורבים ילכו אחרי תועבותם ובעבורם יתן דרך האמת לגדופים׃

³And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not.

³Par cupidité, ils trafiqueront de vous au moyen de paroles trompeuses, eux que menace depuis longtemps la condamnation, et dont la ruine ne sommeille point.

³ובדברי בדוי יעשו אתכם למחסר להם למען בצע בצע אשר משפטם מעולם לא יתמהמה ושברם לא ינום׃

⁴For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

⁴Car, si Dieu n'a pas épargné les anges qui ont péché, mais s'il les a précipités dans les abîmes de ténèbres et les réserve pour le jugement;

⁴כי לא חס אלהים על המלאכים אשר חטאו כי אם הורידם לקצבי הרים ויסגירם בכבלי אפל לשמרם למשפט׃

⁵and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

⁵s'il n'a pas épargné l'ancien monde, mais s'il a sauvé Noé, lui huitième, ce prédicateur de la justice, lorsqu'il fit venir le déluge sur un monde d'impies;

⁵וגם על דורות קדם לא חס וישמר רק את נח השמיני קרא הצדק בהביאו את המבול על דור הרשעים׃

⁶and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly;

⁶s'il a condamné à la destruction et réduit en cendres les villes de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, les donnant comme exemple aux impies à venir,

⁶ואת ערי סדום ועמרה הפך לאפר והאשימם במהפכה וישימם למשל לאשר עתידים לעשות זמה׃

⁷and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked

⁷et s'il a délivré le juste Lot, profondément attristé de la conduite de ces hommes sans frein dans leur dissolution

⁷ויצל את לוט הצדיק אשר הלאוהו אנשי בליעל ההם בדרך זמתם׃

⁸(for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed [his] righteous soul from day to day with [their] lawless deeds):

⁸car ce juste, qui habitait au milieu d'eux, tourmentait journellement son âme juste à cause de ce qu'il voyait et entendait de leurs oeuvres criminelles;

⁸כי הצדיק הזה בשבתו בתוכם האדיב את נפשו הישרה יום יום בראותו ובשמעו מעשי רשעם׃

⁹the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment;

⁹le Seigneur sait délivrer de l'épreuve les hommes pieux, et réserver les injustes pour être punis au jour du jugement,

⁹כי יודע יהוה להציל את חסידיו מנסיון ולחשך את הרשעים ליום המשפט להשיב גמולם להם׃

¹⁰but chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of defilement, and despise dominion. Daring, self-willed, they tremble not to rail at dignities:

¹⁰ceux surtout qui vont après la chair dans un désir d'impureté et qui méprisent l'autorité. Audacieux et arrogants, ils ne craignent pas d'injurier les gloires,

¹⁰וביותר את ההלכים אחרי הבשר בתאות תבל ובזים את הממשלה עזי פנים הלכים בשרירות לבם ולא יחרדו מחרף את השררות׃

¹¹whereas angels, though greater in might and power, bring not a railing judgment against them before the Lord.

¹¹tandis que les anges, supérieurs en force et en puissance, ne portent pas contre elles de jugement injurieux devant le Seigneur.

¹¹אשר אף המלאכים הגדולים מהם בעז וכח לא יגדפום לפני יהוה במשפטם׃

¹²But these, as creatures without reason, born mere animals to be taken and destroyed, railing in matters whereof they are ignorant, shall in their destroying surely be destroyed,

¹²Mais eux, semblables à des brutes qui s'abandonnent à leurs penchants naturels et qui sont nées pour être prises et détruites, ils parlent d'une manière injurieuse de ce qu'ils ignorent, et ils périront par leur propre corruption,

¹²והמה כבהמות הסכלות הנולדות כחק טבעם ללכד ולשחת יאבדו באבוד נפשם יען חרפו את אשר לא הבינו וישאו גמול עולתם׃

¹³suffering wrong as the hire of wrong-doing; [men] that count it pleasure to revel in the day-time, spots and blemishes, revelling in their deceivings while they feast with you;

¹³recevant ainsi le salaire de leur iniquité. Ils trouvent leurs délices à se livrer au plaisir en plein jour; hommes tarés et souillés, ils se délectent dans leurs tromperies, en faisant bonne chère avec vous.

¹³אשר עדנת יומם לענג יחשבו מטנפים ומום בם המתפנקים במדוחי נפשם ואכלים ושתים עמכם׃

¹⁴having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; enticing unstedfast souls; having a heart exercised in covetousness; children of cursing;

¹⁴Ils ont les yeux pleins d'adultère et insatiables de péché; ils amorcent les âmes mal affermies; ils ont le coeur exercé à la cupidité; ce sont des enfants de malédiction.

¹⁴עינים להם מלאות נאפים אשר לא תחדלות מחטוא ואת נפשות הפתאים יצודדו ולב מלמד בצע להם בני המארה׃

¹⁵forsaking the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the [son] of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong-doing;

¹⁵Après avoir quitté le droit chemin, ils se sont égarés en suivant la voie de Balaam, fils de Bosor, qui aima le salaire de l'iniquité,

¹⁵את הדרך הישר עזבו ויתעו וילכו בדרך בלעם בן בעור אשר אהב שכר העולה׃

¹⁶but he was rebuked for his own transgression: a dumb ass spake with man's voice and stayed the madness of the prophet.

¹⁶mais qui fut repris pour sa transgression: une ânesse muette, faisant entendre une voix d'homme, arrêta la démence du prophète.

¹⁶ותהי לו תוכחת על חטאתו כי הבהמה האלמת דברה בקול אדם ותעצר באולת הקסם׃

¹⁷These are springs without water, and mists driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved.

¹⁷Ces gens-là sont des fontaines sans eau, des nuées que chasse un tourbillon: l'obscurité des ténèbres leur est réservée.

¹⁷בארות בלי מים המה עבים נדפים בסערה אשר שמור להם חשך אפלה לעולם׃

¹⁸For, uttering great swelling [words] of vanity, they entice in the lusts of the flesh, by lasciviousness, those who are just escaping from them that live in error;

¹⁸Avec des discours enflés de vanité, ils amorcent par les convoitises de la chair, par les dissolutions, ceux qui viennent à peine d'échapper aux hommes qui vivent dans l'égarement;

¹⁸כי בדברם בגאות דברי שוא יצודו בתאות הבשר על ידי זמתם את אשר אך נמלטו מידי ההלכים בדרך תועה׃

¹⁹promising them liberty, while they themselves are bondservants of corruption; for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he also brought into bondage.

¹⁹ils leur promettent la liberté, quand ils sont eux-mêmes esclaves de la corruption, car chacun est esclave de ce qui a triomphé de lui.

¹⁹חפשה יבטיחו להם והם בעצמם עבדים לשחת כי האיש עבד לאשר נכבש ממנו׃

²⁰For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first.

²⁰En effet, si, après s'être retirés des souillures du monde, par la connaissance du Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ, ils s'y engagent de nouveau et sont vaincus, leur dernière condition est pire que la première.

²⁰כי אחרי המלטם מטמאת העולם בדעת אדנינו ומושיענו ישוע המשיח אם שבו והטבעו בתוכן ונכבשו אחריתם תהיה רעה מראשיתם׃

²¹For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

²¹Car mieux valait pour eux n'avoir pas connu la voie de la justice, que de se détourner, après l'avoir connue, du saint commandement qui leur avait été donné.

²¹טוב היה להם לא לדעת את דרך הצדקה מאשר ידעהו ונסגו אחור מן המצוה הקדושה המסורה להם׃

²²It has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire.

²²Il leur est arrivé ce que dit un proverbe vrai: Le chien est retourné à ce qu'il avait vomi, et la truie lavée s'est vautrée dans le bourbier.

²²ויקר להם כאשר יאמר משל האמת הכלב שב על קאו והחזיר עלה מן הרחצה להתגלל ברפש׃
