1And there happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.
1Il se trouvait là un méchant homme, nommé Schéba, fils de Bicri, Benjamite. Il sonna de la trompette, et dit: Point de part pour nous avec David, point d'héritage pour nous avec le fils d'Isaï! Chacun à sa tente, Israël!
1ושם נקרא איש בליעל ושמו שבע בן בכרי איש ימיני ויתקע בשפר ויאמר אין לנו חלק בדוד ולא נחלה לנו בבן ישי איש לאהליו ישראל׃
2So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
2Et tous les hommes d'Israël s'éloignèrent de David, et suivirent Schéba, fils de Bicri. Mais les hommes de Juda restèrent fidèles à leur roi, et l'accompagnèrent depuis le Jourdain jusqu'à Jérusalem.
2ויעל כל איש ישראל מאחרי דוד אחרי שבע בן בכרי ואיש יהודה דבקו במלכם מן הירדן ועד ירושלם׃
3And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.
3David rentra dans sa maison à Jérusalem. Le roi prit les dix concubines qu'il avait laissées pour garder la maison, et il les mit dans un lieu où elles étaient séquestrées; il pourvut à leur entretien, mais il n'alla point vers elles. Et elles furent enfermées jusqu'au jour de leur mort, vivant dans un état de veuvage.
3ויבא דוד אל ביתו ירושלם ויקח המלך את עשר נשים פלגשים אשר הניח לשמר הבית ויתנם בית משמרת ויכלכלם ואליהם לא בא ותהיינה צררות עד יום מתן אלמנות חיות׃
4Then said the king to Amasa, Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be thou here present.
4Le roi dit à Amasa: Convoque-moi d'ici à trois jours les hommes de Juda; et toi, sois ici présent.
4ויאמר המלך אל עמשא הזעק לי את איש יהודה שלשת ימים ואתה פה עמד׃
5So Amasa went to call [the men of] Judah together; but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
5Amasa partit pour convoquer Juda; mais il tarda au delà du temps que le roi lui avait fixé.
5וילך עמשא להזעיק את יהודה וייחר מן המועד אשר יעדו׃
6And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.
6David dit alors à Abischaï: Schéba, fils de Bicri, va maintenant nous faire plus de mal qu'Absalom. Prends toi-même les serviteurs de ton maître et poursuis-le, de peur qu'il ne trouve des villes fortes et ne se dérobe à nos yeux.
6ויאמר דוד אל אבישי עתה ירע לנו שבע בן בכרי מן אבשלום אתה קח את עבדי אדניך ורדף אחריו פן מצא לו ערים בצרות והציל עיננו׃
7And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
7Et Abischaï partit, suivi des gens de Joab, des Kéréthiens et des Péléthiens, et de tous les vaillants hommes; ils sortirent de Jérusalem, afin de poursuivre Schéba, fils de Bicri.
7ויצאו אחריו אנשי יואב והכרתי והפלתי וכל הגברים ויצאו מירושלם לרדף אחרי שבע בן בכרי׃
8When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.
8Lorsqu'ils furent près de la grande pierre qui est à Gabaon, Amasa arriva devant eux. Joab était ceint d'une épée par-dessus les habits dont il était revêtu; elle était attachée à ses reins dans le fourreau, d'où elle glissa, comme Joab s'avançait.
8הם עם האבן הגדולה אשר בגבעון ועמשא בא לפניהם ויואב חגור מדו לבשו ועלו חגור חרב מצמדת על מתניו בתערה והוא יצא ותפל׃
9And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with thee, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
9Joab dit à Amasa: Te portes-tu bien, mon frère? Et de la main droite il saisit la barbe d'Amasa pour le baiser.
9ויאמר יואב לעמשא השלום אתה אחי ותחז יד ימין יואב בזקן עמשא לנשק לו׃
10But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
10Amasa ne prit point garde à l'épée qui était dans la main de Joab; et Joab l'en frappa au ventre et répandit ses entrailles à terre, sans lui porter un second coup. Et Amasa mourut. Joab et son frère Abischaï marchèrent à la poursuite de Schéba, fils de Bicri.
10ועמשא לא נשמר בחרב אשר ביד יואב ויכהו בה אל החמש וישפך מעיו ארצה ולא שנה לו וימת ויואב ואבישי אחיו רדף אחרי שבע בן בכרי׃
11And there stood by him one of Joab's young men, and said, He that favoreth Joab, and he that is for David, let him follow Joab.
11Un homme d'entre les gens de Joab resta près d'Amasa, et il disait: Qui veut de Joab et qui est pour David? Qu'il suive Joab!
11ואיש עמד עליו מנערי יואב ויאמר מי אשר חפץ ביואב ומי אשר לדוד אחרי יואב׃
12And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.
12Amasa se roulait dans le sang au milieu de la route; et cet homme, ayant vu que tout le peuple s'arrêtait, poussa Amasa hors de la route dans un champ, et jeta sur lui un vêtement, lorsqu'il vit que tous ceux qui arrivaient près de lui s'arrêtaient.
12ועמשא מתגלל בדם בתוך המסלה וירא האיש כי עמד כל העם ויסב את עמשא מן המסלה השדה וישלך עליו בגד כאשר ראה כל הבא עליו ועמד׃
13When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
13Quand il fut ôté de la route, chacun suivit Joab, afin de poursuivre Schéba, fils de Bicri.
13כאשר הגה מן המסלה עבר כל איש אחרי יואב לרדף אחרי שבע בן בכרי׃
14And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Beth-maacah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
14Joab traversa toutes les tribus d'Israël dans la direction d'Abel-Beth-Maaca, et tous les hommes d'élite se rassemblèrent et le suivirent.
14ויעבר בכל שבטי ישראל אבלה ובית מעכה וכל הברים ויקלהו ויבאו אף אחריו׃
15And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
15Ils vinrent assiéger Schéba dans Abel-Beth-Maaca, et ils élevèrent contre la ville une terrasse qui atteignait le rempart. Tout le peuple qui était avec Joab sapait la muraille pour la faire tomber.
15ויבאו ויצרו עליו באבלה בית המעכה וישפכו סללה אל העיר ותעמד בחל וכל העם אשר את יואב משחיתם להפיל החומה׃
16Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.
16Alors une femme habile se mit à crier de la ville: Ecoutez, écoutez! Dites, je vous prie, à Joab: Approche jusqu'ici, je veux te parler!
16ותקרא אשה חכמה מן העיר שמעו שמעו אמרו נא אל יואב קרב עד הנה ואדברה אליך׃
17And he came near unto her; and the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thy handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
17Il s'approcha d'elle, et la femme dit: Es-tu Joab? Il répondit: Je le suis. Et elle lui dit: Ecoute les paroles de ta servante. Il répondit: J'écoute.
17ויקרב אליה ותאמר האשה האתה יואב ויאמר אני ותאמר לו שמע דברי אמתך ויאמר שמע אנכי׃
18Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask [counsel] at Abel: and so they ended [the matter].
18Et elle dit: Autrefois on avait coutume de dire: Que l'on consulte Abel! Et tout se terminait ainsi.
18ותאמר לאמר דבר ידברו בראשנה לאמר שאל ישאלו באבל וכן התמו׃
19I am of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?
19Je suis une des villes paisibles et fidèles en Israël; et tu cherches à faire périr une ville qui est une mère en Israël! Pourquoi détruirais-tu l'héritage de l'Eternel?
19אנכי שלמי אמוני ישראל אתה מבקש להמית עיר ואם בישראל למה תבלע נחלת יהוה׃
20And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.
20Joab répondit: Loin, loin de moi la pensée de détruire et de ruiner!
20ויען יואב ויאמר חלילה חלילה לי אם אבלע ואם אשחית׃
21The matter is not so: but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.
21La chose n'est pas ainsi. Mais un homme de la montagne d'Ephraïm, nommé Schéba, fils de Bicri, a levé la main contre le roi David; livrez-le, lui seul, et je m'éloignerai de la ville. La femme dit à Joab: Voici, sa tête te sera jetée par la muraille.
21לא כן הדבר כי איש מהר אפרים שבע בן בכרי שמו נשא ידו במלך בדוד תנו אתו לבדו ואלכה מעל העיר ותאמר האשה אל יואב הנה ראשו משלך אליך בעד החומה׃
22Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.
22Et la femme alla vers tout le peuple avec sa sagesse; et ils coupèrent la tête à Schéba, fils de Bicri, et la jetèrent à Joab. Joab sonna de la trompette; on se dispersa loin de la ville, et chacun s'en alla dans sa tente. Et Joab retourna à Jérusalem, vers le roi.
22ותבוא האשה אל כל העם בחכמתה ויכרתו את ראש שבע בן בכרי וישלכו אל יואב ויתקע בשופר ויפצו מעל העיר איש לאהליו ויואב שב ירושלם אל המלך׃
23Now Joab was over all the host of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;
23Joab commandait toute l'armée d'Israël; Benaja, fils de Jehojada, était à la tête des Kéréthiens et des Péléthiens;
23ויואב אל כל הצבא ישראל ובניה בן יהוידע על הכרי ועל הפלתי׃
24and Adoram was over the men subject to taskwork; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;
24Adoram était préposé aux impôts; Josaphat, fils d'Achilud, était archiviste;
24ואדרם על המס ויהושפט בן אחילוד המזכיר׃
25and Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
25Scheja était secrétaire; Tsadok et Abiathar étaient sacrificateurs;
25ושיא ספר וצדוק ואביתר כהנים׃
26and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister unto David.
26et Ira de Jaïr était ministre d'état de David.
26וגם עירא היארי היה כהן לדוד׃
