¹And there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Jehovah. And Jehovah said, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Gibeonites.

¹Du temps de David, il y eut une famine qui dura trois ans. David chercha la face de l'Eternel, et l'Eternel dit: C'est à cause de Saül et de sa maison sanguinaire, c'est parce qu'il a fait périr les Gabaonites.

¹ויהי רעב בימי דוד שלש שנים שנה אחרי שנה ויבקש דוד את פני יהוה ויאמר יהוה אל שאול ואל בית הדמים על אשר המית את הגבענים׃

²And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah);

²Le roi appela les Gabaonites pour leur parler. -Les Gabaonites n'étaient point d'entre les enfants d'Israël, mais c'était un reste des Amoréens; les enfants d'Israël s'étaient liés envers eux par un serment, et néanmoins Saül avait voulu les frapper, dans son zèle pour les enfants d'Israël et de Juda. -

²ויקרא המלך לגבענים ויאמר אליהם והגבענים לא מבני ישראל המה כי אם מיתר האמרי ובני ישראל נשבעו להם ויבקש שאול להכתם בקנאתו לבני ישראל ויהודה׃

³and David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of Jehovah?

³David dit aux Gabaonites: Que puis-je faire pour vous, et avec quoi ferai-je expiation, afin que vous bénissiez l'héritage de l'Eternel?

³ויאמר דוד אל הגבענים מה אעשה לכם ובמה אכפר וברכו את נחלת יהוה׃

⁴And the Gibeonites said unto him, It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul, or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.

⁴Les Gabaonites lui répondirent: Ce n'est pas pour nous une question d'argent et d'or avec Saül et avec sa maison, et ce n'est pas à nous qu'il appartient de faire mourir personne en Israël. Et le roi dit: Que voulez-vous donc que je fasse pour vous?

⁴ויאמרו לו הגבענים אין לי כסף וזהב עם שאול ועם ביתו ואין לנו איש להמית בישראל ויאמר מה אתם אמרים אעשה לכם׃

⁵And they said unto the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us, [that] we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel,

⁵Ils répondirent au roi: Puisque cet homme nous a consumés, et qu'il avait le projet de nous détruire pour nous faire disparaître de tout le territoire d'Israël,

⁵ויאמרו אל המלך האיש אשר כלנו ואשר דמה לנו נשמדנו מהתיצב בכל גבל ישראל׃

⁶let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto Jehovah in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah. And the king said, I will give them.

⁶qu'on nous livre sept hommes d'entre ses fils, et nous les pendrons devant l'Eternel à Guibea de Saül, l'élu de l'Eternel. Et le roi dit: Je les livrerai.

⁶ינתן לנו שבעה אנשים מבניו והוקענום ליהוה בגבעת שאול בחיר יהוה ויאמר המלך אני אתן׃

⁷But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovah's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

⁷Le roi épargna Mephiboscheth, fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, à cause du serment qu'avaient fait entre eux, devant l'Eternel, David et Jonathan, fils de Saül.

⁷ויחמל המלך על מפיבשת בן יהונתן בן שאול על שבעת יהוה אשר בינתם בין דוד ובין יהונתן בן שאול׃

⁸But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she bare to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:

⁸Mais le roi prit les deux fils que Ritspa, fille d'Ajja, avait enfantés à Saül, Armoni et Mephiboscheth, et les cinq fils que Mérab, fille de Saül, avait enfantés à Adriel de Mehola, fils de Barzillaï;

⁸ויקח המלך את שני בני רצפה בת איה אשר ילדה לשאול את ארמני ואת מפבשת ואת חמשת בני מיכל בת שאול אשר ילדה לעדריאל בן ברזלי המחלתי׃

⁹And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the mountain before Jehovah, and they fell [all] seven together. And they were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.

⁹et il les livra entre les mains des Gabaonites, qui les pendirent sur la montagne, devant l'Eternel. Tous les sept périrent ensemble; ils furent mis à mort dans les premiers jours de la moisson, au commencement de la moisson des orges.

⁹ויתנם ביד הגבענים ויקיעם בהר לפני יהוה ויפלו שבעתים יחד והם המתו בימי קציר בראשנים תחלת קציר שערים׃

¹⁰And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured upon them from heaven; and she suffered neither the birds of the heavens to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.

¹⁰Ritspa, fille d'Ajja, prit un sac et l'étendit sous elle contre le rocher, depuis le commencement de la moisson jusqu'à ce que la pluie du ciel tombât sur eux; et elle empêcha les oiseaux du ciel de s'approcher d'eux pendant le jour, et les bêtes des champs pendant la nuit.

¹⁰ותקח רצפה בת איה את השק ותטהו לה אל הצור מתחלת קציר עד נתך מים עליהם מן השמים ולא נתנה עוף השמים לנוח עליהם יומם ואת חית השדה לילה׃

¹¹And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

¹¹On informa David de ce qu'avait fait Ritspa, fille d'Ajja, concubine de Saül.

¹¹ויגד לדוד את אשר עשתה רצפה בת איה פלגש שאול׃

¹²And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, in the day that the Philistines slew Saul in Gilboa;

¹²וילך דוד ויקח את עצמות שאול ואת עצמות יהונתן בנו מאת בעלי יביש גלעד אשר גנבו אתם מרחב בית שן אשר תלום שם הפלשתים ביום הכות פלשתים את שאול בגלבע׃

¹³and he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son: and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.

¹³Il emporta de là les os de Saül et de Jonathan, son fils; et l'on recueillit aussi les os de ceux qui avaient été pendus.

¹³ויעל משם את עצמות שאול ואת עצמות יהונתן בנו ויאספו את עצמות המוקעים׃

¹⁴And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.

¹⁴On enterra les os de Saül et de Jonathan, son fils, au pays de Benjamin, à Tséla, dans le sépulcre de Kis, père de Saül. Et l'on fit tout ce que le roi avait ordonné. Après cela, Dieu fut apaisé envers le pays.

¹⁴ויקברו את עצמות שאול ויהונתן בנו בארץ בנימן בצלע בקבר קיש אביו ויעשו כל אשר צוה המלך ויעתר אלהים לארץ אחרי כן׃

¹⁵And the Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. And David waxed faint;

¹⁵Les Philistins firent encore la guerre à Israël. David descendit avec ses serviteurs, et ils combattirent les Philistins. David était fatigué.

¹⁵ותהי עוד מלחמה לפלשתים את ישראל וירד דוד ועבדיו עמו וילחמו את פלשתים ויעף דוד׃

¹⁶and Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred [shekels] of brass in weight, he being girded with a new [sword], thought to have slain David.

¹⁶Et Jischbi-Benob, l'un des enfants de Rapha, eut la pensée de tuer David; il avait une lance du poids de trois cents sicles d'airain, et il était ceint d'une épée neuve.

¹⁶וישבו בנב אשר בילידי הרפה ומשקל קינו שלש מאות משקל נחשת והוא חגור חדשה ויאמר להכות את דוד׃

¹⁷But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succored him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the lamp of Israel.

¹⁷Abischaï, fils de Tseruja, vint au secours de David, frappa le Philistin et le tua. Alors les gens de David jurèrent, en lui disant: Tu ne sortiras plus avec nous pour combattre, et tu n'éteindras pas la lampe d'Israël.

¹⁷ויעזר לו אבישי בן צרויה ויך את הפלשתי וימיתהו אז נשבעו אנשי דוד לו לאמר לא תצא עוד אתנו למלחמה ולא תכבה את נר ישראל׃

¹⁸And it came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.

¹⁸Il y eut encore, après cela, une bataille à Gob avec les Philistins. Alors Sibbecaï, le Huschatite, tua Saph, qui était un des enfants de Rapha.

¹⁸ויהי אחרי כן ותהי עוד המלחמה בגוב עם פלשתים אז הכה סבכי החשתי את סף אשר בילדי הרפה׃

¹⁹And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim the Beth-lehemite slew Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

¹⁹Il y eut encore une bataille à Gob avec les Philistins. Et Elchanan, fils de Jaaré-Oreguim, de Bethléhem, tua Goliath de Gath, qui avait une lance dont le bois était comme une ensouple de tisserand.

¹⁹ותהי עוד המלחמה בגוב עם פלשתים ויך אלחנן בן יערי ארגים בית הלחמי את גלית הגתי ועץ חניתו כמנור ארגים׃

²⁰And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

²⁰Il y eut encore une bataille à Gath. Il s'y trouva un homme de haute taille, qui avait six doigts à chaque main et à chaque pied, vingt-quatre en tout, et qui était aussi issu de Rapha.

²⁰ותהי עוד מלחמה בגת ויהי איש מדין ואצבעת ידיו ואצבעות רגליו שש ושש עשרים וארבע מספר וגם הוא ילד להרפה׃

²¹And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David's brother, slew him.

²¹Il jeta un défi à Israël; et Jonathan, fils de Schimea, frère de David, le tua.

²¹ויחרף את ישראל ויכהו יהונתן בן שמעי אחי דוד׃

²²These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

²²Ces quatre hommes étaient des enfants de Rapha à Gath. Ils périrent par la main de David et par la main de ses serviteurs.
