¹The former treatise I made, O Theophilus, concerning all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

¹Théophile, j'ai parlé, dans mon premier livre, de tout ce que Jésus a commencé de faire et d'enseigner dès le commencement

¹הן המאמר הראשון תאופילוס עשיתיהו על כל אשר החל ישוע לעשות וללמד׃

²until the day in which he was received up, after that he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

²jusqu'au jour où il fut enlevé au ciel, après avoir donné ses ordres, par le Saint-Esprit, aux apôtres qu'il avait choisis.

²עד היום אשר לקח למרום אחרי צותו ברוח הקדש את השליחים אשר בחר בהם׃

³To whom he also showed himself alive after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God:

³Après qu'il eut souffert, il leur apparut vivant, et leur en donna plusieurs preuves, se montrant à eux pendant quarante jours, et parlant des choses qui concernent le royaume de Dieu.

³ואשר גם התיצב להם חי אחרי ענותו באתות רבות בהראותו אליהם ארבעים יום וידבר על מלכות האלהים׃

⁴and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, [said he], ye heard from me:

⁴Comme il se trouvait avec eux, il leur recommanda de ne pas s'éloigner de Jérusalem, mais d'attendre ce que le Père avait promis, ce que je vous ai annoncé, leur dit-il;

⁴ובאכלו לחם עמהם צוה אתם לבלתי סור מירושלים כי אם להוחיל להבטחת האב אשר שמעתם ממני׃

⁵For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.

⁵car Jean a baptisé d'eau, mais vous, dans peu de jours, vous serez baptisés du Saint-Esprit.

⁵כי יוחנן הטביל במים ואתם תטבלו ברוח הקדש בקרוב אחרי הימים האלה׃

⁶They therefore, when they were come together, asked him, saying, Lord, dost thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?

⁶Alors les apôtres réunis lui demandèrent: Seigneur, est-ce en ce temps que tu rétabliras le royaume d'Israël?

⁶ויהי כאשר נאספו יחדו וישאלהו לאמר אדנינו המשיב אתה בעת הזאת את המלוכה לישראל׃

⁷And he said unto them, It is not for you to know times or seasons, which the Father hath set within His own authority.

⁷Il leur répondit: Ce n'est pas à vous de connaître les temps ou les moments que le Père a fixés de sa propre autorité.

⁷ויאמר אליהם לא לכם לדעת העתים והזמנים אשר יעד האב בשלטנו׃

⁸But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

⁸Mais vous recevrez une puissance, le Saint-Esprit survenant sur vous, et vous serez mes témoins à Jérusalem, dans toute la Judée, dans la Samarie, et jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

⁸אבל תקבלו גבורה בבוא עליכם רוח הקדש והייתם עדי בירושלים ובכל יהודה ובשמרון ועד קצה הארץ׃

⁹And when he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

⁹Après avoir dit cela, il fut élevé pendant qu'ils le regardaient, et une nuée le déroba à leurs yeux.

⁹ויהי כדברו זאת העלה והם ראים וישאהו ענן מנגד עיניהם׃

¹⁰And while they were looking stedfastly into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

¹⁰Et comme ils avaient les regards fixés vers le ciel pendant qu'il s'en allait, voici, deux hommes vêtus de blanc leur apparurent,

¹⁰ויביטו אחריו השמימה בעברו והנה שני אנשים לבושי בדים נצבים עליהם׃

¹¹who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye looking into heaven? this Jesus, who was received up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye beheld him going into heaven.

¹¹et dirent: Hommes Galiléens, pourquoi vous arrêtez-vous à regarder au ciel? Ce Jésus, qui a été enlevé au ciel du milieu de vous, viendra de la même manière que vous l'avez vu allant au ciel.

¹¹ויאמרו אתם אנשי הגליל מה תעמדו פה ועיניכם השמימה ישוע זה אשר לקח מאתכם השמימה כן בוא יבוא כאשר ראיתם אתו עלה השמימה׃

¹²Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey off.

¹²Alors ils retournèrent à Jérusalem, de la montagne appelée des oliviers, qui est près de Jérusalem, à la distance d'un chemin de sabbat.

¹²ויפנו וילכו ירושלימה מן ההר הנקרא הר הזיתים והוא קרוב לירושלים דרך תחום שבת׃

¹³And when they were come in, they went up into the upper chamber, where they were abiding; both Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James [the son] of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas [the son] of James.

¹³Quand ils furent arrivés, ils montèrent dans la chambre haute où ils se tenaient d'ordinaire; c'étaient Pierre, Jean, Jacques, André, Philippe, Thomas, Barthélemy, Matthieu, Jacques, fils d'Alphée, Simon le Zélote, et Jude, fils de Jacques.

¹³ויבאו העירה ויעלו אל העליה אשר היו ישבים בה פטרוס ויעקב ויוחנן ואנדרי פילפוס ותומא בר תלמי ומתי יעקב בן חלפי ושמעון הקנא ויהודה בן יעקב׃

¹⁴These all with one accord continued stedfastly in prayer, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

¹⁴Tous d'un commun accord persévéraient dans la prière, avec les femmes, et Marie, mère de Jésus, et avec les frères de Jésus.

¹⁴כל אלה היו שקדים יחדו בלב אחד להתפלל ולהתחנן ועמהם הנשים ומרים אם ישוע וגם אחיו׃

¹⁵And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren, and said (and there was a multitude of persons [gathered] together, about a hundred and twenty),

¹⁵En ces jours-là, Pierre se leva au milieu des frères, le nombre des personnes réunies étant d'environ cent vingt. Et il dit:

¹⁵ובימים האלה קם פטרוס בתוך התלמידים ומספר שמות הנקהלים יחד כמאה ועשרים ויאמר׃

¹⁶Brethren, it was needful that the Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus.

¹⁶Hommes frères, il fallait que s'accomplît ce que le Saint-Esprit, dans l'Ecriture, a annoncé d'avance, par la bouche de David, au sujet de Judas, qui a été le guide de ceux qui ont saisi Jésus.

¹⁶אנשים אחים מן הצרך היה כי ימלא הכתוב ההוא אשר דבר מקדם רוח הקדש בפי דוד על יהודה אשר היה מוליך את תפשי ישוע׃

¹⁷For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry.

¹⁷Il était compté parmi nous, et il avait part au même ministère.

¹⁷כי היה נמנה אתנו וזכה בגורל השרות הזה׃

¹⁸(Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

¹⁸Cet homme, ayant acquis un champ avec le salaire du crime, est tombé, s'est rompu par le milieu du corps, et toutes ses entrailles se sont répandues.

¹⁸והנה הוא קנה לו שדה במחיר הרשעה ויפל על פניו ארצה ויבקע בתוך וישפכו כל מעיו׃

¹⁹And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.)

¹⁹La chose a été si connue de tous les habitants de Jérusalem que ce champ a été appelé dans leur langue Hakeldama, c'est-à-dire, champ du sang.

¹⁹וגם נודעה זאת לכל ישבי ירושלים ויקרא בשפתם לשדה ההוא חקל דמא הוא שדה הדם׃

²⁰For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take.

²⁰Or, il est écrit dans le livre des Psaumes: Que sa demeure devienne déserte, Et que personne ne l'habite! Et: Qu'un autre prenne sa charge!

²⁰כי כתוב בספר תהלים תהי טירתו נשמה ואל יהי בה ישב ופקדתו יקח אחר׃

²¹Of the men therefore that have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

²¹Il faut donc que, parmi ceux qui nous ont accompagnés tout le temps que le Seigneur Jésus a vécu avec nous,

²¹ועל כן מן הצרך כי מן האנשים האלה אשר התהלכו אתנו כל ימי היות אדנינו ישוע יוצא ובא לפנינו׃

²²beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day that he was received up from us, of these must one become a witness with us of his resurrection.

²²depuis le baptême de Jean jusqu'au jour où il a été enlevé du milieu de nous, il y en ait un qui nous soit associé comme témoin de sa résurrection.

²²החל מטבילת יוחנן עד יום הלקחו מאתנו כי אחד מהם יהיה לעד עמנו על קומו מן המתים׃

²³And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

²³Ils en présentèrent deux: Joseph appelé Barsabbas, surnommé Justus, et Matthias.

²³ויעמידו שנים את יוסף הנקרא בר שבא והוא מכנה יוסטוס ואת מתיה׃

²⁴And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, show of these two the one whom thou hast chosen,

²⁴Puis ils firent cette prière: Seigneur, toi qui connais les coeurs de tous, désigne lequel de ces deux tu as choisi,

²⁴ויתפללו ויאמרו אתה אדני היודע כל הלבבות הראה נא מן השנים האלה את האחד אשר בחרת בו׃

²⁵to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.

²⁵afin qu'il ait part à ce ministère et à cet apostolat, que Judas a abandonné pour aller en son lieu.

²⁵לקחת את גורל השרות הזה והשליחות אשר סר ממנה יהודה להלך אל מקומו׃

²⁶And they gave lots for them; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

²⁶Ils tirèrent au sort, et le sort tomba sur Matthias, qui fut associé aux onze apôtres.

²⁶ויפילו גורלות ויפל הגורל על מתיה ויספח אל עשתי עשר השליחים׃
