¹But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

¹Mais un homme nommé Ananias, avec Saphira sa femme, vendit une propriété,

¹ואיש אחד ושמו חנניה עם אשתו שפירה מכר את אחזתו׃

²and kept back [part] of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

²et retint une partie du prix, sa femme le sachant; puis il apporta le reste, et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.

²ויקח מן המחיר ויסתירהו ואשתו ידעת גם היא וחלק אחד הביא וישם לרגלי השליחים׃

³But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back [part] of the price of the land?

³Pierre lui dit: Ananias, pourquoi Satan a-t-il rempli ton coeur, au point que tu mentes au Saint-Esprit, et que tu aies retenu une partie du prix du champ?

³ויאמר פטרוס חנניה למה זה מלא השטן את לבבך לשקר ברוח הקדש ולהסתיר ממחיר השדה׃

⁴While it remained, did it not remain thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thy power? How is it that thou hast conceived this thing in thy heart? thou has not lied unto men, but unto God.

⁴S'il n'eût pas été vendu, ne te restait-il pas? Et, après qu'il a été vendu, le prix n'était-il pas à ta disposition? Comment as-tu pu mettre en ton coeur un pareil dessein? Ce n'est pas à des hommes que tu as menti, mais à Dieu.

⁴הלא שלך היה טרם המכרו וגם אחרי נמכר היה בידך ולמה שמת על לבבך הדבר הזה לא שקרת בבני אדם כי אם באלהים׃

⁵And Ananias hearing these words fell down and gave up the ghost: and great fear came upon all that heard it.

⁵Ananias, entendant ces paroles, tomba, et expira. Une grande crainte saisit tous les auditeurs.

⁵וכשמע חנניה את הדברים האלה נפל ארצה ויגוע ותהי יראה גדולה על כל השמעים׃

⁶And the young men arose and wrapped him round, and they carried him out and buried him.

⁶Les jeunes gens, s'étant levés, l'enveloppèrent, l'emportèrent, et l'ensevelirent.

⁶ויקומו הצעירים ויאספו אתו וישאהו החוצה ויקברהו׃

⁷And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

⁷Environ trois heures plus tard, sa femme entra, sans savoir ce qui était arrivé.

⁷ויהי כמשלש שעות ותבא אשתו והיא לא ידעה את הנעשה׃

⁸And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yea, for so much.

⁸Pierre lui adressa la parole: Dis-moi, est-ce à un tel prix que vous avez vendu le champ? Oui, répondit-elle, c'est à ce prix-là.

⁸ויען פטרוס ויאמר אליה אמרי לי הבמחיר הזה מכרתם את השדה ותאמר כן במחיר הזה׃

⁹But Peter [said] unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to try the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them that have buried thy husband are at the door, and they shall carry thee out.

⁹Alors Pierre lui dit: Comment vous êtes-vous accordés pour tenter l'Esprit du Seigneur? Voici, ceux qui ont enseveli ton mari sont à la porte, et ils t'emporteront.

⁹ויאמר פטרוס אליה למה זה נועדתם לנסות את רוח יהוה הנה בפתח רגלי המקברים את אישך ונשאו אתך החוצה׃

¹⁰And she fell down immediately at his feet, and gave up the ghost: and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.

¹⁰Au même instant, elle tomba aux pieds de l'apôtre, et expira. Les jeunes gens, étant entrés, la trouvèrent morte; ils l'emportèrent, et l'ensevelirent auprès de son mari.

¹⁰ותפל פתאם לרגליו ותגוע והבחורים באו והנה מתה וישאוה החוצה ויקברוה אצל אישה׃

¹¹And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all that heard these things.

¹¹Une grande crainte s'empara de toute l'assemblée et de tous ceux qui apprirent ces choses.

¹¹ותהי יראה גדולה על כל הקהל ועל כל השמעים את אלה׃

¹²And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.

¹²Beaucoup de miracles et de prodiges se faisaient au milieu du peuple par les mains des apôtres. Ils se tenaient tous ensemble au portique de Salomon,

¹²ויעשו אתות ומופתים רבים בקרב העם על ידי השליחים וכלם נאספו לב אחד באולם של שלמה׃

¹³But of the rest durst no man join himself to them: howbeit the people magnified them;

¹³et aucun des autres n'osait se joindre à eux; mais le peuple les louait hautement.

¹³ומן האחרים אין איש אשר מלאו לבו לחלות עליהם אך הוקיר אתם העם׃

¹⁴and believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of them and women;

¹⁴Le nombre de ceux qui croyaient au Seigneur, hommes et femmes, s'augmentait de plus en plus;

¹⁴אבל נספחו עוד יתר מאמינים אל האדון אנשים ונשים הרבה מאד׃

¹⁵insomuch that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that, as Peter came by, at the least his shadow might overshadow some one of them.

¹⁵en sorte qu'on apportait les malades dans les rues et qu'on les plaçait sur des lits et des couchettes, afin que, lorsque Pierre passerait, son ombre au moins couvrît quelqu'un d'eux.

¹⁵עד כי נשאו את החולים אל הרחבות וישימום על מטות ומשכבות למען אשר ילך פטרוס ונפל אך צלו על אחד מהם׃

¹⁶And there also came together the multitudes from the cities round about Jerusalem, bring sick folk, and them that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

¹⁶La multitude accourait aussi des villes voisines à Jérusalem, amenant des malades et des gens tourmentés par des esprits impurs; et tous étaient guéris.

¹⁶וגם המון עם הערים אשר מסביב נקבצו ירושלים מביאים את החולים ואת הנלחצים מרוחות טמאות וירפאו כלם׃

¹⁷But the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,

¹⁷Cependant le souverain sacrificateur et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, savoir le parti des sadducéens, se levèrent, remplis de jalousie,

¹⁷ויקם הכהן הגדול וכל אשר אתו והם אנשי כת הצדוקים וימלאו קנאה׃

¹⁸and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in public ward.

¹⁸mirent les mains sur les apôtres, et les jetèrent dans la prison publique.

¹⁸וישלחו יד בשליחים ויתנום במשמר העיר׃

¹⁹But an angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them out, and said,

¹⁹Mais un ange du Seigneur, ayant ouvert pendant la nuit les portes de la prison, les fit sortir, et leur dit:

¹⁹ויהי בלילה ויפתח מלאך יהוה את דלתי בית הכלא ויוציאם לאמר׃

²⁰Go ye, and stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this Life.

²⁰Allez, tenez-vous dans le temple, et annoncez au peuple toutes les paroles de cette vie.

²⁰לכו והתיצבו במקדש ודברו אל העם את כל דברי החיים האלה׃

²¹And when they heard [this], they entered into the temple about daybreak, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison-house to have them brought.

²¹Ayant entendu cela, ils entrèrent dès le matin dans le temple, et se mirent à enseigner. Le souverain sacrificateur et ceux qui étaient avec lui étant survenus, ils convoquèrent le sanhédrin et tous les anciens des fils d'Israël, et ils envoyèrent chercher les apôtres à la prison.

²¹והם כשמעם את זאת באו אל המקדש בהית הבקר וילמדו שם ויבא הכהן הגדול ואשר אתו ויקראו אל הסנהדרין ואל כל זקני בני ישראל וישלחו אל בית האסורים להביא אתם׃

²²But the officers that came found them not in the prison; and they returned, and told,

²²Les huissiers, à leur arrivée, ne les trouvèrent point dans la prison. Ils s'en retournèrent, et firent leur rapport,

²²וילכו המשרתים ולא מצאום בבית הכלא וישובו ויגידו לאמר׃

²³saying, The prison-house we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing at the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

²³en disant: Nous avons trouvé la prison soigneusement fermée, et les gardes qui étaient devant les portes; mais, après avoir ouvert, nous n'avons trouvé personne dedans.

²³את בית האסורים מצאנו סגור ומסגר והשמרים עמדים על הדלתות וכאשר פתחנו לא נמצא בו אדם׃

²⁴Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were much perplexed concerning them whereunto this would grow.

²⁴Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu ces paroles, le commandant du temple et les principaux sacrificateurs ne savaient que penser des apôtres et des suites de cette affaire.

²⁴ויהי כשמע הכהן ונגיד המקדש וראשי הכהנים את הדברים האלה ויבהלו עליהם ויאמרו איך יפל הדבר הזה׃

²⁵And there came one and told them, Behold, the men whom ye put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people.

²⁵Quelqu'un vint leur dire: Voici, les hommes que vous avez mis en prison sont dans le temple, et ils enseignent le peuple.

²⁵ואיש אחד בא ויגד להם לאמר הנה האנשים אשר שמתם במשמר עמדים הם במקדש ומלמדים את העם׃

²⁶Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them, [but] without violence; for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

²⁶Alors le commandant partit avec les huissiers, et les conduisit sans violence, car ils avaient peur d'être lapidés par le peuple.

²⁶וילך שמה הנגיד עם משרתיו ויקחם אך לא בחזקה כי יראו מפני העם פן יסקלו׃

²⁷And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them,

²⁷Après qu'ils les eurent amenés en présence du sanhédrin, le souverain sacrificateur les interrogea

²⁷ויביאו אתם ויעמידום לפני הסנהדרין וישאלם הכהן הגדול לאמר׃

²⁸saying, We strictly charged you not to teach in this name: and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

²⁸en ces termes: Ne vous avons-nous pas défendu expressément d'enseigner en ce nom-là? Et voici, vous avez rempli Jérusalem de votre enseignement, et vous voulez faire retomber sur nous le sang de cet homme!

²⁸הלא צוה צוינו עליכם לבלתי למד בשם הזה והנה מלאתם את ירושלים תורתכם ותחפצו להביא עלינו את דמי האיש הזה׃

²⁹But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We must obey God rather than men.

²⁹Pierre et les apôtres répondirent: Il faut obéir à Dieu plutôt qu'aux hommes.

²⁹ויען פטרוס והשליחים ויאמרו הלא עלינו להקשיב בקול אלהים מהקשיב בקול בני אדם׃

³⁰The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree.

³⁰Le Dieu de nos pères a ressuscité Jésus, que vous avez tué, en le pendant au bois.

³⁰אלהי אבותינו הקים את ישוע אשר שלחתם ידכם בו ותתלו אותו על העץ׃

³¹Him did God exalt with his right hand [to be] a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.

³¹Dieu l'a élevé par sa droite comme Prince et Sauveur, pour donner à Israël la repentance et le pardon des péchés.

³¹את זה נשא האלהים בימינו לשר ולמושיע לתת תשובה לישראל וסליחת החטאים׃

³²And we are witnesses of these things; and [so is] the Holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

³²Nous sommes témoins de ces choses, de même que le Saint-Esprit, que Dieu a donné à ceux qui lui obéissent.

³²ואנחנו עדיו על אלה וגם רוח הקדש אשר נתן אותו האלהים לשמעים בקולו׃

³³But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and minded to slay them.

³³Furieux de ces paroles, ils voulaient les faire mourir.

³³ויהי כשמעם ויתרגזו ויתיעצו להרוג אתם׃

³⁴But there stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in honor of all the people, and commanded to put the men forth a little while.

³⁴Mais un pharisien, nommé Gamaliel, docteur de la loi, estimé de tout le peuple, se leva dans le sanhédrin, et ordonna de faire sortir un instant les apôtres.

³⁴ויקם בתוך הסנהדרין אחד מן הפרושים גמליאל שמו והוא מורה התורה מכבד בעיני כל העם ויצו להוציא את השליחים החוצה לזמן מעט׃

³⁵And he said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves as touching these men, what ye are about to do.

³⁵Puis il leur dit: Hommes Israélites, prenez garde à ce que vous allez faire à l'égard de ces gens.

³⁵ויאמר אליהם אנשי ישראל השמרו לכם מפני האנשים האלה במה שאתם עשים להם׃

³⁶For before these days rose up Theudas, giving himself out to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed, and came to nought.

³⁶Car, il n'y a pas longtemps que parut Theudas, qui se donnait pour quelque chose, et auquel se rallièrent environ quatre cents hommes: il fut tué, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi furent mis en déroute et réduits à rien.

³⁶כי לפני הימים האלה קם תודס ויתן את נפשו כאחד הגדולים וידבקו בו כארבע מאות איש ויהרג וכל אשר שמעו אליו התפרדו ויהיו לאין׃

³⁷After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the enrolment, and drew away [some of the] people after him: he also perished; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.

³⁷Après lui, parut Judas le Galiléen, à l'époque du recensement, et il attira du monde à son parti: il périt aussi, et tous ceux qui l'avaient suivi furent dispersés.

³⁷ואחר כן קם יהודה הגלילי בימי הספר ויסת אחריו עם רב וגם הוא נהרג וכל אשר שמעו אליו נפצו׃

³⁸And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will be overthrown:

³⁸Et maintenant, je vous le dis ne vous occupez plus de ces hommes, et laissez-les aller. Si cette entreprise ou cette oeuvre vient des hommes, elle se détruira;

³⁸ועתה אני אמר אליכם חדלו לכם מן האנשים האלה והניחו להם כי העצה והפעלה הזאת אם מאת אדם היא תפר׃

³⁹but if it is of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God.

³⁹mais si elle vient de Dieu, vous ne pourrez la détruire. Ne courez pas le risque d'avoir combattu contre Dieu.

³⁹ואם מאת האלהים היא לא תוכלו להפר אתה פן תמצאו נלחמים את האלהים׃

⁴⁰And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles unto them, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

⁴⁰Ils se rangèrent à son avis. Et ayant appelé les apôtres, ils les firent battre de verges, ils leur défendirent de parler au nom de Jésus, et ils les relâchèrent.

⁴⁰וישמעו אליו ויקראו את השליחים וילקו אתם ויצוו אשר לא ידברו בשם ישוע ויפטרו אותם׃

⁴¹They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.

⁴¹Les apôtres se retirèrent de devant le sanhédrin, joyeux d'avoir été jugés dignes de subir des outrages pour le nom de Jésus.

⁴¹ויצאו שמחים מלפני הסנהדרין על כי זכו לשאת על שמו כלמה׃

⁴²And every day, in the temple and at home, they ceased not to teach and to preach Jesus [as] the Christ.

⁴²Et chaque jour, dans le temple et dans les maisons, ils ne cessaient d'enseigner, et d'annoncer la bonne nouvelle de Jésus-Christ.

⁴²וכל היום לא חדלו ללמד במקדש ובבתים ולבשר את בשורת ישוע המשיח׃
