¹Now in these days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

¹En ce temps-là, le nombre des disciples augmentant, les Hellénistes murmurèrent contre les Hébreux, parce que leurs veuves étaient négligées dans la distribution qui se faisait chaque jour.

¹בימים ההם כאשר רבו התלמידים היתה תלונת היונים על העבריים על אשר העלימו עיניהם מאלמנותיהם לבלתי תת להן יום יום את ארוחתן׃

²And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fit that we should forsake the word of God, and serve tables.

²Les douze convoquèrent la multitude des disciples, et dirent: Il n'est pas convenable que nous laissions la parole de Dieu pour servir aux tables.

²ויקראו שנים העשר את המון התלמידים ויאמרו לא נאוה לנו כי נעזב את דבר האלהים ונשמש את השלחנות׃

³Look ye out therefore, brethren, from among you seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

³C'est pourquoi, frères, choisissez parmi vous sept hommes, de qui l'on rende un bon témoignage, qui soient pleins d'Esprit-Saint et de sagesse, et que nous chargerons de cet emploi.

³לכן אחי ברו לכם שבעה אנשים מקרבכם אשר שם טוב להם ומלאים רוח הקדש וחכמה ונפקידם על הענין הזה׃

⁴But we will continue stedfastly in prayer, and in the ministry of the word.

⁴Et nous, nous continuerons à nous appliquer à la prière et au ministère de la parole.

⁴ואנחנו נשקד על התפלה ועל שמוש הדבר׃

⁵And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus a proselyte of Antioch;

⁵Cette proposition plut à toute l'assemblée. Ils élurent Etienne, homme plein de foi et d'Esprit-Saint, Philippe, Prochore, Nicanor, Timon, Parménas, et Nicolas, prosélyte d'Antioche.

⁵וייטב הדבר לפני כל ההמון ויבחרו את אסטפנוס איש מלא אמונה ורוח הקדש ואת פילפוס ואת פרוכורוס ואת ניקנור ואת טימון ואת פרמנס ואת ניקלס גר אנטיוכיא׃

⁶whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands upon them.

⁶Ils les présentèrent aux apôtres, qui, après avoir prié, leur imposèrent les mains.

⁶את אלה העמידו לפני השליחים ויתפללו ויסמכו את ידיהם עליהם׃

⁷And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

⁷La parole de Dieu se répandait de plus en plus, le nombre des disciples augmentait beaucoup à Jérusalem, et une grande foule de sacrificateurs obéissaient à la foi.

⁷ויהי דבר האלהים הולך וגדל וירב מספר התלמידים בירושלים עד מאד וגם המון רב מן הכהנים נכנעו אל האמונה׃

⁸And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people.

⁸Etienne, plein de grâce et de puissance, faisait des prodiges et de grands miracles parmi le peuple.

⁸ואסטפנוס מלא אמונה וגבורה ויעש אתות ומופתים גדולים בקרב העם׃

⁹But there arose certain of them that were of the synagogue called [the synagogue] of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen.

⁹Quelques membres de la synagogue dite des Affranchis, de celle des Cyrénéens et de celle des Alexandrins, avec des Juifs de Cilicie et d'Asie, se mirent à discuter avec lui;

⁹ויקומו אנשים מבית הכנסת הנקרא על שם הליברטינים ושל קורינים ואלכסנדריים ומן בני קיליקיא ואסיא ויתוכחו עם אסטפנוס׃

¹⁰And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake.

¹⁰mais ils ne pouvaient résister à sa sagesse et à l'Esprit par lequel il parlait.

¹⁰ולא יכלו עמד לנגד החכמה והרוח אשר דבר בו׃

¹¹Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and [against] God.

¹¹Alors ils subornèrent des hommes qui dirent: Nous l'avons entendu proférer des paroles blasphématoires contre Moïse et contre Dieu.

¹¹ויסיתו בו אנשים אמרים שמענו אתו מדבר גדופים במשה ובאלהים׃

¹²And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the council,

¹²Ils émurent le peuple, les anciens et les scribes, et, se jetant sur lui, ils le saisirent, et l'emmenèrent au sanhédrin.

¹²ויעוררו את העם ואת הזקנים והסופרים ויקומו עליו ויחטפהו ויביאהו לפני הסנהדרין׃

¹³and set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak words against this holy place, and the law:

¹³Ils produisirent de faux témoins, qui dirent: Cet homme ne cesse de proférer des paroles contre le lieu saint et contre la loi;

¹³ויעמידו עדי שקר אשר אמרו האיש הזה איננו חדל מהטיח דברים נגד מקום הקדש הזה ונגד התורה׃

¹⁴for we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered unto us.

¹⁴car nous l'avons entendu dire que Jésus, ce Nazaréen, détruira ce lieu, et changera les coutumes que Moïse nous a données.

¹⁴כי שמענהו אמר זה ישוע הנצרי יתץ את המקום הזה וישנה את החקים אשר מסר לנו משה׃

¹⁵And all that sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

¹⁵Tous ceux qui siégeaient au sanhédrin ayant fixé les regards sur Etienne, son visage leur parut comme celui d'un ange.

¹⁵ויסתכלו בו כל הישבים בסנהדרין ויראו את פניו כפני מלאך אלהים׃
