¹Then after the space of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me.

¹Quatorze ans après, je montai de nouveau à Jérusalem avec Barnabas, ayant aussi pris Tite avec moi;

¹אחרי כן מקץ ארבע עשרה שנה שבתי ועליתי לירושלים עם בר נבא ואקח אתי גם את טיטוס׃

²And I went up by revelation; and I laid before them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles but privately before them who were of repute, lest by any means I should be running, or had run, in vain.

²et ce fut d'après une révélation que j'y montai. Je leur exposai l'Evangile que je prêche parmi les païens, je l'exposai en particulier à ceux qui sont les plus considérés, afin de ne pas courir ou avoir couru en vain.

²ואעל שמה על פי מחזה ואשים לפניהם את הבשורה אשר קראתי בגוים וביחוד שמתיה לפני החשובים שבהם פן תהיה לריק מרוצתי אשר ארוץ או רצתי׃

³But not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:

³Mais Tite, qui était avec moi, et qui était Grec, ne fut pas même contraint de se faire circoncire.

³אבל גם טיטוס אשר אתי אף כי יוני הוא לא הכרח להמול׃

⁴and that because of the false brethren privily brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

⁴Et cela, à cause des faux frères qui s'étaient furtivement introduits et glissés parmi nous, pour épier la liberté que nous avons en Jésus-Christ, avec l'intention de nous asservir.

⁴מפני אחי השקר הנכנסים בסתר בתוכנו אשר באו לרגל את חרותנו אשר לנו בישוע המשיח למען העבידנו׃

⁵to whom we gave place in the way of subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

⁵Nous ne leur cédâmes pas un instant et nous résistâmes à leurs exigences, afin que la vérité de l'Evangile fût maintenue parmi vous.

⁵אשר לא סרנו למשמעתם אף לא שעה אחת למען אשר תעמד בקרבכם אמתה של הבשורה׃

⁶But from those who were reputed to be somewhat (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth not man's person)-- they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me:

⁶Ceux qui sont les plus considérés-quels qu'ils aient été jadis, cela ne m'importe pas: Dieu ne fait point acception de personnes, - ceux qui sont les plus considérés ne m'imposèrent rien.

⁶ומאת הנחשבים להיות מה יהיו מי שיהיו אינני חושש לזה כי האלהים לא ישא פני איש לי לא הוסיפו החשובים מאומה׃

⁷but contrariwise, when they saw that I had been intrusted with the gospel of the uncircumcision, even as Peter with [the gospel] of the circumcision

⁷Au contraire, voyant que l'Evangile m'avait été confié pour les incirconcis, comme à Pierre pour les circoncis, -

⁷ותהי להפך בראותם כי הפקדה לי הבשורה אל הערלים כמו שהפקד כיפא אל המולים׃

⁸(for he that wrought for Peter unto the apostleship of the circumcision wrought for me also unto the Gentiles);

⁸car celui qui a fait de Pierre l'apôtre des circoncis a aussi fait de moi l'apôtre des païens, -

⁸כי הפעל בכיפא לשלחו אל המולים הוא פעל גם בי לשלחני אל הגוים׃

⁹and when they perceived the grace that was given unto me, James and Cephas and John, they who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision;

⁹et ayant reconnu la grâce qui m'avait été accordée, Jacques, Céphas et Jean, qui sont regardés comme des colonnes, me donnèrent, à moi et à Barnabas, la main d'association, afin que nous allassions, nous vers les païens, et eux vers les circoncis.

⁹וכאשר ידעו יעקב וכיפא ויוחנן הנחשבים לעמודים את החסד הנתן לי נתנו לי ולבר נבא את יד ימינם ונאות כי נלך אנחנו לגוים והמה למולים׃

¹⁰only [they would] that we should remember the poor; which very thing I was also zealous to do.

¹⁰Ils nous recommandèrent seulement de nous souvenir des pauvres, ce que j'ai bien eu soin de faire.

¹⁰רק שנזכר את האביונים אשר גם שקדתי לעשותה׃

¹¹But when Cephas came to Antioch, I resisted him to the face, because he stood condemned.

¹¹Mais lorsque Céphas vint à Antioche, je lui résistai en face, parce qu'il était répréhensible.

¹¹וכאשר בא כיפא לאנטיוכיא הוכחתי אל פניו דרכו מפני שהיה בו אשם׃

¹²For before that certain came from James, he ate with the Gentiles; but when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing them that were of the circumcision.

¹²En effet, avant l'arrivée de quelques personnes envoyées par Jacques, il mangeait avec les païens; et, quand elles furent venues, il s'esquiva et se tint à l'écart, par crainte des circoncis.

¹²כי לפני בא אנשים מאת יעקב היה אכל עם הגוים יחדו וכבאם היה מתרחק ופורש מהם מיראתו את בני המילה׃

¹³And the rest of the Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that even Barnabas was carried away with their dissimulation.

¹³Avec lui les autres Juifs usèrent aussi de dissimulation, en sorte que Barnabas même fut entraîné par leur hypocrisie.

¹³ויכחשו עמו גם שאר היהודים עד כי בר נבא גם הוא נדח אחרי כחשם׃

¹⁴But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Cephas before [them] all, If thou, being a Jew, livest as do the Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, how compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

¹⁴Voyant qu'ils ne marchaient pas droit selon la vérité de l'Evangile, je dis à Céphas, en présence de tous: Si toi qui es Juif, tu vis à la manière des païens et non à la manière des Juifs, pourquoi forces-tu les païens à judaïser?

¹⁴אכן בראותו את אשר לא ישרו לכת כאמתה של הבשורה אמרתי אל כיפא בפני כל אם אתה היהודי תתנהג כנכרי ולא כיהודי למה תכריח את הגוים להתנהג כיהודים׃

¹⁵We being Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

¹⁵Nous, nous sommes Juifs de naissance, et non pécheurs d'entre les païens.

¹⁵הן מזרע היהודים אנחנו ולא חטאים מן הגוים׃

¹⁶yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed on Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law: because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

¹⁶Néanmoins, sachant que ce n'est pas par les oeuvres de la loi que l'homme est justifié, mais par la foi en Jésus-Christ, nous aussi nous avons cru en Jésus-Christ, afin d'être justifiés par la foi en Christ et non par les oeuvres de la loi, parce que nulle chair ne sera justifiée par les oeuvres de la loi.

¹⁶ומדעתנו כי לא יצדק אדם מתוך מעשי התורה כי אם באמונת ישוע המשיח גם אנחנו האמנו במשיח ישוע למען נצדק מאמונת המשיח ולא ממעשי התורה כי ממעשי התורה לא יצדק כל בשר׃

¹⁷But if, while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a minister of sin? God forbid.

¹⁷Mais, tandis que nous cherchons à être justifiés par Christ, si nous étions aussi nous-mêmes trouvés pécheurs, Christ serait-il un ministre du péché? Loin de là!

¹⁷ואם בבקשנו להצדק במשיח נמצא גם אנחנו חטאים הנה המשיח משרת החטא חלילה׃

¹⁸For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a transgressor.

¹⁸Car, si je rebâtis les choses que j'ai détruites, je me constitue moi-même un transgresseur,

¹⁸כי אם אשוב ואבנה את מה שסתרתי אני עשה את עצמי פשע׃

¹⁹For I through the law died unto the law, that I might live unto God.

¹⁹car c'est par la loi que je suis mort à la loi, afin de vivre pour Dieu.

¹⁹כי מתי אני לתורה על ידי התורה למען אחיה לאלהים׃

²⁰I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me: and that [life] which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, [the faith] which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

²⁰J'ai été crucifié avec Christ; et si je vis, ce n'est plus moi qui vis, c'est Christ qui vit en moi; si je vis maintenant dans la chair, je vis dans la foi au Fils de Dieu, qui m'a aimé et qui s'est livré lui-même pour moi.

²⁰עם המשיח נצלבתי ואין עוד אנכי החי כי אם המשיח הוא חי בקרבי ואשר אני חי עתה בבשר אחיה באמונת בן אלהים אשר אהבני ויתן את נפשו בעדי׃

²¹I do not make void the grace of God: for if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nought.

²¹Je ne rejette pas la grâce de Dieu; car si la justice s'obtient par la loi, Christ est donc mort en vain.

²¹לא אמאס את חסד האלהים כי אלו תהיה על ידי התורה צדקה הנה חנם מת המשיח׃
